Post Playoff Game - Is Josh Allen the Bills Franchise QB?
BullBuchanan replied to Bakin's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
He had all the time in the world through 3 and a half quarters and mustered 16 points. If he can't get it done with that line, we need to replace him. -
McDermott: Josh Allen 'tried to do too much' in loss
BullBuchanan replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd hate to see him "not doing enough" -
Next year's schedule is going to be brutal after this minor league lineup we played this year. Even if you're really on board with this squad, it's going to be an uphill battle to have a winning season.

Unless I'm mistaken the Referee called the touchdown and the league officials had him overturn it, which is their right, given it's technically a turnover. I'm assuming that's who those guys were, anyway.

What Changes will be made this Offseason?
BullBuchanan replied to wppete's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
They won't make any changes of consequence. They'll bring in a few former busts and try to strike gold, along with a few overpaid vets from Carolina and they'll try to convince us that Danny Amendola is just what we need to put us over the top. Same Old Bills -

Watson got sacked 7 times to Josh's 0 until the 4th. What's his excuse. Russel Wilson and Ben Roethlisberger have won SB's behind dog**** OL's. It's a lame excuse. -

It's absolutely true that I never wanted him, and I've been forced to justify that against folks that fall all over themselves to put him on the wall of fame because he ate a chicken wing that one time. He seems like a good kid, but if you think he has what it takes to start in this league you haven't been paying attention. All of the QBs playing football this weekend and next were immediately elite (Besides Tannehill and Cousins was up and down), beating up on the elite QB's of past generations the second they stepped on the field. Allen in 2 seasons has yet to destroy anyone. The closest is probably the Minnesota game. Are we just going to walk into next year and he's throwing for 5k yards or winning a league MVP? I don't think so, and if he's not doing that then he's not good enough in today's NFL. He's a nice story, but I want a freak of nature that destroys everything in their path. -

I don't think Allen does, not in any game of significance anyway. We've watched him choke countless times on the big stage already in his young career. -

Allen needed to pull off 4th quarter drives because he put us in that position to begin with. Those drives also came against the bottom feeders of the league that we should have never been behind at any point. I wouldn't be so quick to laude him with accolades -

A franchis QB wins that easy game where we were up 16-0 in the third. What we saw today was a Derrick Carr/Andy Dalton/Ryan Tannehill cailber QB choke when it got too hot. -
The fact that this is even a question people are willing to entertain shows the insanity of the Bills fanbase and why we're a joke of an organization. 2 time NCAA Champ, who would have been OROTY if he hadn't gotten hurt, 2x Pro Bowler ,and has won back to back division championships. Meanwhile Allen came in 3rd place in his division in the Mountain West, has never thrown a 300 yard game, and leads the league in fumbles.

"Fight on my men," Sir Andrew Said....

the kid had like 20 fumbles this year. For all of his physical gifts, he's at his best when he plays like a 5'10' West Coast style, quick-release QB. He's the problem, not part of the solution. Outside of maybe Tannehill, he's easily the weakest QB in the entire playoffs. Hard to win with that. -
LOL. The Bills did nothing to deserve to win after the first half.

This game was lost many ways, but the biggest was blocking
BullBuchanan replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Allen was sitting in a recliner most of the game. The OL was outstanding. No line blocks perfect on every play and no defense allows 0 points. This is just scapegoating Allen losing the game. Watson was sacked 7 times and still won. How did they not lose with OL play like that? -
Every player on the field and every fan watching, besides the OP, knew what he was doing. It's pedantic to try to find something that wasn't on that play.If you cant win on your own merit, you don't deserve to win. We couldn't and we didn't.

Great video analysis of Josh v. The Ravens
BullBuchanan replied to BisonMan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I like Mike Schopp enough. He's smart, articulate, and has interesting takes. He gets a bit too short with people and has a "my way or the highway" attitude, but I don't write him off for it. I don't go out of my way for him, but he's a way better radio personality than Bulldog, and probably the best that Buffalo has to offer. It's just been cool to hate on him for so long that many people have forgotten why they claim to not like him. -

Complete nonsense. Josh has a LOT of work to do to get to that level. He's still very much a raw project. Every single person here wants him to succeed, it's just that we may be divided on how close he is to that goal and/or how likely it is that he'll reach it. His decision making, processing speed, and accuracy still isn't good enough, especially when he needs to make a play. He's doing a better job than he did last year, but he needs to be twice as good by the end of next season, or I'll be wanting serious competition. You can't win a lot of games in this league against top teams if you can't get rid of the ball quickly and hit vertical routes down the field. Good Defenses can make this team one dimensional right now to force Josh to attempt plays he's had a hell of a time converting. -
just because star is overpaid, doesn't mean we should overpay a one-year wonder a season removed from being waived as a former 2nd rd pick. Phillips has been great, and I'm more than happy to keep him around at $5-7M any more than that and we can replace him with someone younger. As for Dawkins, he's exactly what I'm looking for in an OL. Solid but unspectacular. Any QB worth having should be able to get their job done behind guys like Dawkins.

You need decent to good players in those spots, but you hardly need elite. The elite players at both positions command huge premiums that have significant diminishing returns. Give me the 15th-20 best LT all day over the #1 at a quarter or less of the cost. If Jordan Phillips wants $10M let some other team make that mistake.
-
DT might be the most overrated position in football after Left Tackle. We've had Marcel Dareus, Kyle Williams, Ted Washington, and Pat Williams among a host of other very good interior DL and it got us exactly nowhere. To commit that kind of cap space to a position that won't win you a Super Bowl is just stupid when you can get guys like Jordan Phillips for a $4.5M cap hit.

I picked 30%. He'll live and die with McD and those are about the odds I think he'll still be here by then. 2 years in, I think Allen is way behind where he should be if we're going to think of him as a long term option. With the ball in his hands and under 2 minutes to go, I expect to lose unless it's to a team we never should have been behind in the first place (like last week). He has the tools, but he doesn't seem like he has the ability to put them all together to dominate opponents the way even inferior QBs do on occasion. He has great plays and good games but he's yet to have the type of game that makes a person think he can be a top tier talent. It's pretty clear he's not a bust, but I just hope we don't get saddled with a long term contract and get Carr/Dalton/Tannehill or even Rivers-esque results out of it. If he can't carry this squad, we shouldn't stop looking until we find someone that can.
