  1. I would actually set an adult minimum wage and one for kids. if you’re business can run with kids, go ahead and hire kids. If not, you’re paying $15 hour. That gets the old “fast food jobs are for kids” model back that existed and ended in the 1980’s. When was the last time you paid rent? Apartments in Florida are 1500 a month. They’re 1600 here. When we looked in Frederick, MD, it was 1800-2000/month. Have a look… https://www.apartments.com/tampa-fl/
  2. Most of the lowest wage workers in restaurants, retail, fast food, etc. moved to warehouse jobs like beer distributors, Frito-lay, UPS, etc.
  3. When it’s whites, it’s “Boys will be boys.” When it’s not, “gun them down!”
  4. In NJ, you can make like 2000/month and still qualify for FULL HC and FULL dental through the state. No co-pays. Floridians, think about that. That would cover like 75 percent of your entire workforce. FULL DENTAL!
  5. Automation was coming regardless. As you now see, people are refusing to be forced back to those jobs, and that’s a good thing. No adult should be working at McDonalds. Automation in the retail sector came well before any wage hikes passed in the states. The old “kiosk” boogeyman didn’t stop states from moving forward. But they really don’t vary much at all. Rent for an apartment is the same in Florida as it is here in NJ and you make half of what you’d make in NJ. The math for working people isn’t hard at all. Maybe 20 years ago that was true, but not anymore.
  6. If you lived with me, you would make 80-100k a year doing the same job and we could go hiking and play at the waterfalls and watch bald eagles fly over us since you’d have days off. I’m about to do that right now. We have lots of baby Red foxes too, and black bears.
  7. It should be interesting when DeSantis tries to block the voice of the people who voted on the wage hike in Florida, like he does with everything else. Thats not gonna go well at all.
  8. You guys will stick to your failed trickle down theory until it puts you on the streets. That’s dedication right there.
  9. Say hi to your new home in Birmingham, Alabama where it’s a race to the bottom and everyone’s poor. Yay! Isn’t this great??? Lol. You sure showed us right?
  10. Strangely enough, it was Amazon that helped set the floor at $15. You have it entirely backwards. The working poor has money to spend and small businesses are thriving here in NJ.
  11. Nobody cares. You either pay a living wage or get out. No one is losing sleep over it except for billionaire CEOs. If you cannot provide a living wage, the state of NJ does not want your unethical business operating here any longer. Go to Alabama and do that.
  12. Yes. Goes into effect end of year. Many other states also. Maryland is probably only 1 year behind us. What is their timetable?
  13. All of the major retailers start at $15 here in NJ. I believe they had until the end of the year to do that and decided to do it sooner. It isn’t a debate on whether is should or shouldn’t happen. It already happened. You’re fighting a battle that you already lost a year ago.
  14. Just because you and I had to work for nothing growing up doesn’t mean that it was ever ok, and doesn’t mean people should be paying their dues like we did in 2021. It’s that kind of bitterness that hurts the country as a whole. Didn’t I just do that?
  15. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/12/31/business/economy/minimum-wage-15-dollar-hour.html
  16. The reality is, strong states have already put the $15 in place with great results, and we’ll just drag the weak Red states along kicking and screaming like we do with everything else.
  17. You’re desperately holding onto a dead ideology. Trickle down failed, and the country has moved on. The slaves aren’t coming back to anything that pays less than $15.
  18. People love capitalism when they have an unfair advantage over workers. Once that shifts towards workers ever so slightly, you lose your minds and pretend there’s a labor shortage when it’s about low wages. It’s time to pay up chompers. Businesses that don’t will be gone, and they’ll be replaced with ones that do. See how that works?
  19. But that’s not what we’re seeing. The added 300/week wasn’t the reason people aren’t returning to work. Businesses that realized this early on and raised their wages will be the ones that survive. The others will be gone in a year. The floor is now 15/hour and no one is returning to awful restaurant/retail work. Not ever.
  20. I’ve never seen this in my lifetime. Red states took away unemployment and people still refuse to work for less than 15 an hour. Millions are quitting their crappy jobs. It’s pretty amazing.
  21. You have to stop being so sad. It was a great day. Record day in the markets, infrastructure bills passing. Joe also told business owners to piss off and pay a living wage. Unemployment and inflation decreasing. The whole premise for this thread is fake. Great days ahead!
