Translation: We're going to fix other problems first and worry about RB when Shady's deal is up.

Winner winner, chicken dinner. McCoy/Ivory is the backfield for this season and maybe even next (depending on continued production from both). During this time, the Bills will build up other positions of more immediate need.

Once other positional groups like front seven, offensive line, WR, etc have been built up sufficiently and as McCoy/Ivory age out, the Bills will draft a few young bucks at the position.

We all may want youth added at RB, but you only have so many draft picks, you need to sign 34 more players to get to 90, and Rome wasn't built in a day. Oh, and we have some guy named Shady still producing big numbers.

Build up the team, let the offense lean on the veteran running backs while rookie QB gets up to speed, and draft RB youth in a year or 2. Simple.

The Bills seem to be a team that has no feel for the draft.  This yr is loaded at RB we got other holes to fill and we go sign a 30yr old for guranteed money.

Or maybe they DO have a feel for the draft, and are of the opinion that other positions offer more value?

  3. A few things.

1.) I have a feeling the Bills will be packaging some draft capital to move up. This means that whatever picks they DO have left need to be used to address areas of greater need than RB2. The Ivory signing means the pressure is off to get an RB2 level running back in the draft. They can grab a late round or UDFA back now.

2.) I believe the Bills plan to lean heavily on the run game this year in order to take pressure off what will likely be a rookie QB under center. Having two vets in Shady and Ivory who know how to block and catch passes and be productive in the run game will be a boon to the development of whichever QB they select.

3.) I fully expect a youth movement at HB NEXT off season, once the more immediate needs of this offseason (OG, LB, DT, QB, etc) have already been filled.

4.) The fact that two veteran, former Pro Bowl free agents both visited the Bills first this offseason, then visited other teams, but wound up circling back and signing with the Bills, bodes well for the "sales job" this staff is able to do on free agents. A good sign that the "culture" and "process" stuff has some bones to it.

5.) Beane is pretty clearly playing the comp pick game.

For all of the above reasons, a solid move.

  4. I have been pretty darned excited for offseasons before.

But I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I've never been as excited as I am for THIS offseason.

Part of it is that I feel the Bills plan to go all-in on a QB once and for all, and nothing in football matters as much as having a quarterback. We haven't had one since 1996, and the mere thought that we will try everything within our power to acquire one this offseason is, by itself, enough reason for excitement. Add in the fact that this is a  year with so many 1st round caliber QBs AND so many interesting free agent options, and you have a recipe for high hopes.

The other part of it is that I truly feel like we have the right people making the decisions. In a way, this feels like the most important crossroads this team has faced in its history. New owner, new GM, new head coach, new staff top to bottom, a bevy of draft picks, a stars-are-aligning convergence of QB need with QB availability....it feels like this offseason will not only make or break this current regime, but will decide whether the Bills will be contenders or pretenders for the next decade.

    So yeah, I'm excited.

I'm not sure it changes your point anyway.

I mean...let's face it, people are ONLY hearing anything now through their own confirmation bias.  Nunberg's statement is proof to Democrats.

At least you admit THAT! If Nunberg's statement is "proof to democrats" (even though we both just sat here and said he was a looney tune), then his statement is automatically "FAKE NEWS!" to the Pro-Trump crowd. That side is pretty good at sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting "LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!!"

I just posted your entire quote - which you dropped without context as if it were proof of something.

Now you're saying he's off his rocker - good.

But don't deny you were quoting that as evidence for your side of this discussion. That's just being dishonest.

So you're reading people's minds now? And putting words in their mouths? Cool.

  7. https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/05/politics/sam-nunberg-robert-mueller/index.html

Washington (CNN)In a defiant pair of CNN interviews, former Trump campaign aide Sam Nunberg said Monday he refuses to comply with a grand jury subpoena in the Russia investigation.

"Screw that," Nunberg told CNN's Gloria Borger. "Why do I have to go? Why? For what?"

But Nunberg said that he is not refusing to comply in order to protect President Donald Trump.

"No I'm not protecting him, but he didn't do anything," Nunberg said. "You know what he did? He won the election."

Nunberg asserted in an interview shortly afterward with CNN's Jake Tapper that he believes special counsel Robert Mueller has "something" on Trump.

"They know something on him," Nunberg said. "... Perhaps I'm wrong, but he did something."

  8. Interesting thought.

On the one hand, you'd think they'd want a solid vet if they draft a first round QB. Having ONLY rookie and Peterman in the QB room screams out for some veteran presence.

On the other hand, the seemed to really like Joe Webb (especially since he can be active on game days and play special teams) last year.

At the end of the day, I predict Bradford/Rookie/Peterman.

    I want him... bad.

    No one else?

I go through 3 pages on the Stadium Wall expecting some thread title indicating people are talking about how much they want Mayfield.

    Nothing.

Even the national narrative is somehow focusing most of its discussion at the Combine on Rosen's question marks, Jackson's up and down performance, and Allen's stellar performance.

But very little discussion about Baker Mayfield's stock going up.

I was listening to the Cowturd show this morning and he had a guest on who said he spoke with a couple NFL GMs after the weekend and one told him that Mayfield just absolutely blew him away in the interview portion.

Plus, maybe behind Allen, Mayfield looked the best in passing drills at the Combine.

Yet, very little talk about him.

    Why?

Is the issue with him more his height or his immaturity?

If it's his height, measuring in at 6' 5/8" seems just fine.  He seems to have great pocket awareness, anyway and is able to find throwing lanes.

If it's his maturity, I actually love his attitude.  He's made mistakes, but the guy just comes off as the perfect leader of a team as long as you've got some veterans on the team and a good coach to help guide him.

I'll be happy if we get Rosen or Darnold or Jackson.  Stay the hell away from Allen.

But can we please please please just go up and get Mayfield!

I've said this on these forums many times before, but...

I really, REALLY want the Bills to draft Baker Mayfield. If he was 2 inches taller, he'd be the consensus top pick in the draft. In my opinion, he will be the best quarterback of this class and has Hall of Fame potential.

He will give the Bills an identity and swagger that they have been lacking for 22 years. He is the consummate "earned everything he ever got" underdog, and he's PERFECT for this city and this team.

I only hope McDermott and Beane see it the way I do. Teams are really going to be kicking themselves for passing on this kid.

I would surely draft a QB. I wouldn't overrate a QB and pay a ransom for him when he's not worth it. None of the QBs in this draft are as good as Wentz. If you want to trade 2 first in this years draft cool. If it was Luck or Wentz I'd agree with you guys but because it's not I wont.

    Draft a QB.

....Which one? I'm just curious who you like instead. You clearly have a conviction on Rosen and the other "top guys", so you must have a conviction who you think the Bills CAN get for a reasonable cost. Jackson? Rudolph?

  11. 1 hour ago, CuddyDark said:

dumbest trade in NFL history. Rosen will probably\y be on board at 7, 8, 9, 10 and most likely 11.

    Pffffft. You're dreaming.

There is no way to justify giving up that much draft capital. 3 1st a 2nd?

Cool! We'll just play....um...WHO at quarterback, again?

  12. Great job. Would love this draft.

To those saying "too rich for my blood": Really? Bills acquire a franchise QB and still get to have basically a regular draft this year. Yes, they lose next year's 1st, but you have to give up something to gain something. In this case, that "something" has been missing in Buffalo since 1997: a franchise QB!

I just can't believe, after 21 years of futility, that anyone would still be gun-shy about acquiring a QB just because some draft picks need to be given up. How long do the Bills sit back and be content with second third tier passers? Sheesh!

I hope the draft goes exactly as written in the OP (with, of course, the adjustment to the second round since we give up one of those picks).

Special counsel wants documents from Trump, numerous campaign associates

by KATY TUR and ALEX JOHNSON

WASHINGTON — The grand jury investigating alleged collusion between Russia and Donald Trump's presidential campaign has issued a subpoena seeking all documents involving the president and a host of his closest advisers, according to a copy of the subpoena reviewed by NBC News.

According to the subpoena, which was sent to a witness by special counsel Robert Mueller, investigators want emails, text messages, work papers, telephone logs and other documents going back to Nov. 1, 2015, 4½ months after Trump launched his campaign.

I’ve got to ask— specifically what do you love that you think he adds to the research?

I love that he is -- by his very presence in all things QB related the past two seasons -- insisting to his front office without equivocation that they need to find a franchise quarterback. It's not that I think he aids the research. Instead, I simply feel that he's making it very clear to those he employs that quarterback should be the Bills' top priority. To be sure, if he's vetoing decisions, stepping on the toes of the personnel men, or being overly meddlesome, then I don't support it. But that's not the feeling I get from him. We have no indications thus far that he's a Jerry Jones (or even Ralph Wilson) type owner.

  15. I think Terry wants to personally ensure that the Bills obtain a franchise quarterback. All of the talk of him dining with Mitch Trubisky and the Bills wanting to trade up for him last year, and now this. Pegula may not be a "football guy", he's more of a fan just like you and I. But even fans in the stands know that you need a franchise QB to win consistently in the NFL, and I believe he wants to help identify and select one.

Given that we know the Bills won't be in the Cousins chase, it's safe to surmise at this point that they WILL be drafting a quarterback, and almost certainly in the 1st round. It's gonna be an interesting couple months leading up to the draft.
