The jets need offensive lineman badly and pass rushers.

    Right, but...

If offensive line is a big need of yours ALREADY...why help a division rival draft Quinnen freaking Williams?! And if they need pass rushers, why trade out of a spot that could net them Josh freaking Allen?!

You seein' what I'm gettin' at here?!

McD defense doesn't call for penetrating tackles.

We have one player that can rush from the outside and he is 31 and on final year of his contract.

Allen is a great edge rusher and would make a far greater impact than a 3 technique DT

This is 100% false. His defense absolutely depends on having a playmaking, penetrating 3-technique DT in the fold.

  3. I can't wrap my ahead around how this would work.

Giving up next year's 1st? Seems unlikely.

Giving up this year's 2nd and 3rd (which might still not even be enough, points wise)? Seems unlikely.

I don't see a division rival helping us to get Quinnen Williams. I don't see US helping a division rival to get a bunch of extra draft picks.

    LaConjecture strikes again.

BY FAR the worst part about that imo, is Atlanta trading up for Oliver.  If he goes 8 I’ll be sick.

I just have that sick feeling that we’re taking Jonah Williams or Christian Wilkins. Both fine prospects but I’d MUCH rather trade down to the teens and get more ammo to trade back into the 1st.

Other than that.  I don’t care about our division.  If we do well, that’s all we need.

This. Except I wouldn't say it's quite a "sick" feeling, since we DO need both a DT and some more protection for Allen. Also, the trenches are said to be pretty bereft in next year's draft, while the skill positions are said to have a lot of good prospects. If this is true, then it makes sense to stock up the trenches THIS year and let next year be a "skill position" year.

I'm mentally preparing myself for the Bills pick to be very "un-sexy".

  5. What Ben Allbright just mocked is kind of a little frightening. Hockenson still on the board but the Bills pass on him and take Wilkins. Christian Wilkins will be a darned good NFL player, but is he going to be as special at his position as Hockenson? This might not sit well with me.

What would REALLY set me off? If the Patriots wind up with Hockenson or Fant. Just what we all need.

  6. Sorry to make a thread about this, but I figured it deserved its own discussion. If not, well...my bad.

Allbright tends to be one of the better mockers out there, if such a thing exists. He had Allen to the Bills all offseason last year.

So if Hockenson is still on the board and Wilkins is the pick at 9, will there be a riot at TBD? Will @Cornette's Commentary have to change his pants? This would be quite the outcome. Wouldn't shock me one bit, either. Christian "Process" Wilkins. Hmmm....

Allbright predicts Christian Wilkins. I am in agreement, as I mentioned yesterday. Doesn't take into account who I WANT, but that's who I think it'll be. I also think it's possible that Hockenson is still on the board and Bills pass on him for Wilkins. A certain segment of Bills Mafia will be furious, but it's hard to argue with a d-lineman over a tight end.

  8. Regarding that YardsPerPass tweet about skill positions in next year's draft (which, by the way, is also supposed to be short on good o-line talent):

It sure seems like Beane is already planning for this. I know he has mentioned before that he looks at NEXT YEAR'S draft, too, when forming a plan for the offseason. I believe him. He is addressing o-line heavily this offseason both in free agency and, I expect, in the draft. He doesn't want to have to worry about that position group at all next year, because he knows there won't be much on the market in terms of either FA or rookies.

Meanwhile, while he DID sign WR help this year, he did so with generally short term deals that are easy to get out of after either this year or next year. This was not by accident, in my opinion. While I DO expect him to get some more offensive help in the draft, I ultimately expect him to "finish" the o-line and defense first and foremost. I then expect him to use the oodles of NEXT YEAR'S cap space and draft picks to even more heavily fortify the offense. O-line this year, WRs and RBs next year. We'll see if I'm right, but boy, you have to love the fact that Beane is such a prepared and meticulous thinker and planner.

The public at large is sleeping on Wilkins. The respect with which he is viewed is diminished by the presence of Olive and Williams, and by Wilkins' being older than usual for a draftee. Were it not for the fact that there are so many OTHER great DL prospects and were it not for the fact that Wilkins is 24, he would be viewed with the proper esteem. He's going to be really good.

Trade down, use the loot to help pick up an elite OT or EDGE and my worries go right out the window

I expect if Wilkins is the pick that it will come after a trade down to either 16 (Carolina) or 23 (Houston).

This year feels like 2017 to me. And like when we picked Tre'Davious White, the pick won't be sexy at the time, but will reveal itself to have been a wise decision and to have yielded a high quality player. Also like 2017, the added draft capital will take some of the sting out a less-than-exciting selection.

I'm worried about the age thing.  I mean this is a top 10 pick, assuming no trade-down.  I don't know if that's worth it for a guy who will be 24 by the end of this year.

If I have to pick 1, I'd say Oliver.  But either of the top 2 OT's would be fine, and I've warmed up to Hock so I'd be ok with this too

    I hear ya.

Kyle Williams, who plays the same position, played until he was 35, right? Warren Sapp, same thing. 35.

If Wilkins plays until he's 35, it means the Bills could have him for a decade.

A decade of outstanding 3T play seems worth a 1st round pick.

    But I hear ya.

    Based on Preference, Hock.

Based on what I am feeling is likely? Jonah Williams

I wouldn't hate Williams at all, and he makes sense. I mostly just prefer a "Sexy pick" cause im a shallow SOB.

I feel the same regarding these two. Would fully understand picking Jonah and would understand why its a sensible move. But I would much rather draft Hock. Maybe its because I think Hock has a better chance to be SPECIAL than Williams. Or maybe I'm just a shallow SOB.

I think no trades makes a ton of sense and should go quicker

Yeah. If we say "no trades" and limit the pick time to 2 hours, it'll be fine. If whoever's turn it is hasn't picked within the 2 hour window, we can leave it to whoever is present in the thread at that time to make the pick. Just spitballing here.

  14. I've waited until the day before the draft so that we could all gather as much intel as possible.

You can answer simply or you can go into detail.

You can list two guys if you think they're going to be making two picks in the 1st round.

When it's all said and done, who do YOU think will be the Bills' first round pick?

I'll start: Christian Wilkins, DT, Clemson. I think he's 100% the type of guy the Bills want to build around. You won't find a better "Process"/locker room/culture fit anywhere in the draft. Also, the perception of Wilkins suffers because of the presence of guys like Oliver and Williams in this draft, but he's a baller. He may not have the explosiveness of Oliver (few do), but he's a supremely physically talented player in his own right. He is also extremely versatile and lined up everywhere along the d-line at Clemson. Between who Wilkins is as a person, who he is as a player, and where he is likely to be selected in the draft, I think he's the most likely round 1 pick for the Bills. I believe they'll trade down with either Carolina or Houston and wind up selecting Wilkins.

    Who's yours? Let's hear 'em!

  15. Looking over various mock drafts and draft needs lists for the Packers, the unanimously agreed upon position of most pressing need after OL was Safety. Even though the Pakcers signed Adrian Amos and spent a high pick last season on Josh Jones, they still feel like they need to add a playmaker at the position. As such...

With the 30th pick in the 2019 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers select Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, S, Florida

The Packers love Gardner-Johnson's versatility. They feel that he will fit perfectly into Mike Pettin's multiple defensive fronts, and will provide Green Bay with an excellent "Big Nickel" package going forward.

My work computer is being funny, so can someone please tag the next guy whose turn it now is? Please and thanks.
