Stadium Construction Discussion (No PSL/Seat selection posts)
oldmanfan replied to JÂy RÛßeÒ's topic in The Stadium Wall
I’m an outdoors on grass guy myself. And Terry pays cost overruns (and I bet the Titans winds up more that what’s being quoted). Some of those costs will dribble down to the fan. But when I come to town all the bars and restaurants seem full. Went to a Bandits playoff and it was packed. Sabres fans are back as the team looks better. The new stadium will sell out regardless of PSLs and such. Bills fans are who they are. -
Is the MLB Competition Over Before It Started?
oldmanfan replied to JackKemp's topic in The Stadium Wall
My guess is Dodson is in on early downs but they’ll play 4-1-6 on passing downs with Rapp on the field and Milano as the 1 LB. -
12th man takes care of it. A fellow professor friend grew up in New England and was a huge Pats fan, but hates what Kraft has done. So he’s now for the Bills. When I told him I could get him a Mafia shirt he told me that brings up some horrible memories of the real Mob. Point being it’s probably not the best to put Mafia up on the Wall. That was Nick Miki-Meyer, and I’m sure that’s spelled wrong. Great day, helped carry the goal post to Ralph’s box.

Is the MLB Competition Over Before It Started?
oldmanfan replied to JackKemp's topic in The Stadium Wall
Yes there are. Which is why I posted it. It is a fact the Bills went 4-0 with Dodson starting last year. Because it is a team game. No the answer is how well the team plays. Dodson is one of 11 guys on the defensive side of the ball. -

Is the MLB Competition Over Before It Started?

So the MLB is now solely responsible for the performance of the defense? Once again your user name belies your knowledge base. -

And what would your answer be? Bring in a guy with no experience in McD’s defense, whether rookie or vet? ? Or stick with a veteran who knows the system as has performed fairly well within it? When are fans going to get it through their heads that there is a salary cap in the NFL and because of that you are not going to have All Pros at every spot on the field? If one were to listen to the hysteria this past off season we should have brought high priced guys in at MLB, WR2, RT. That is not the way the NFL works. -

I believe they were 4-0 with Dodson starting last year. -
Too bad. Suck it up and deal with it.
-
Best backup we ever had was Lamonica.
-
Too many fans think that unless a guy is All Pro caliber he stinks. That is not how the NFL works. The cap does not allow it. So some guys on a team are going to be average players. Beane has tried to improve the O line every year. Some moves didn’t work the way he wanted, so he tries again like he has this past off season. Edmunds signed for a fortune with someone else, and they have 4 candidates to take that spot, one of whom (Dodson) with which they were I believe undefeated when he started last year. We’ll see what happens there. Davis was hurt most of last year, so we’ll see there. And if you look at the best passing game in the league (KC) none of their WR are fantastic. But they do have a possible GOAT in Kelce. So enter Kincaid; let’s see what he does.

OT: High school football officiating shortage
oldmanfan replied to Sammy Watkins' Rib's topic in The Stadium Wall
My dad’s second job was officiating way back in the 60’s-90’s. He did basketball, football, soccer, and baseball. As an ump he got an offer to go full time with a shot at doing the majors but he didn’t want to be away from the family as much as the job called for. Back then coaches, parents and kids had more respect for officials. But now it’s ridiculous. Parents with no clue about the rules or about the difficulties of officiating just yell obscenities, start fights, and all that kind of crap. I considered following in my dad’s footsteps, but you could see the crap starting in the 80’s/90’s and it gets worse and worse. So I said no thanks. -
They have one on the roster. Shell.
-
Neither Jackson nor Tua worry me in the slightest
-
Only Bills fans complain about having three corners with ability vying for a job in a passing league. I love that we have 4 corners, including Tre, that can perform.
-
If Brown can’t go then Shell comes in, a guy with experience in the league. Then you have the UFA from Florida and/or Doyle. Or Edwards can slide in. It’s not like there’s no options. You can’t have a Pro Bowl caliber guy at every position in the modern day NFL.

Outside of MLB, Where are the Bills Worse in 2023?
oldmanfan replied to jwhit34's topic in The Stadium Wall
I expect a lot of 6 DB looks with Milano as the single LB. -
Good point. There are a couple people here with playing/coaching expertise whose opinions I value. For the most part though none of us really understand the nuances of pro football. But that’s why fan is short for fanatic.
-
Well stated. The anticipation of the season should be an exciting time, but that does not seem to be the case when you read some of what goes on here. There are some who seem to think their place on the board is to be negative about everything. Seems like a sad existence to me.

Byrd along with Booker Egerson formed the best pair of corners in the AFL. Byrd was also a great punt returner. He should be on our wall, no question. The Hall is a stretch. Other guys who would be there with Byrd from the AFL days that could merit consideration would be George Saimes and Tom Sestak.

Milano tends to miss some games each year with injuries, so having Williams backing him up there is a good thing. As for MLB you know Klein can play that spot on running downs, and we'll see between Bernard and Dodson who gets the most snaps. My guess is on passing downs McD is going to go with a lot of 6 DB/1 LB looks anyway, with Milano on the field. As for 2nd CB, I think we'll see Elam a lot depending on what McD calls. If they want more one-on-one Elam has that skill set, whereas Jackson and Benford will play more in zone. having three guys competing for one spot is a lot better than having none.
