Over 29,000 by April 23rd and 1000+ deaths. 37,000 by May 4th. Then they started opening again in mid May, with bars, tattoo shops (etc) and some theme parks opening in early-mid June. I don’t know if I’d call it a second spike or just a continuation of their first wave?

So it sounds like it’s not that they were reporting false positive tests. They just weren’t reporting the negative test results. If that’s the case that only changes the positive/negative test percentages, not the total number of positive tests for covid reported for that day. The number of people who tested positive will still be the same even if we know the number of people who tested negative that day. Obviously It’s wrong to say that 100% of the tests were positive, or 100% negative (which has also happened in Florida). But the actual number of positive tests would still be correct (unless they’re being reported more than once). It also sounds like it was limited to a number of small labs. By comparison, the state of Florida has done almost 3 million total covid tests. How did they have their contact info if they didn’t get the test done? Did they have to give their contact info just to get in line? @Hapless Bills Fan post from the facts thread (this is the only way I know how to quote a post from a different thread). I thought this post deserved some discussion. This is crazy! The CDC should be leading this fight. They are the foremost experts on infectious disease in the world. It’s criminal (IMO) that they’re being forced to sit on the sidelines. Infuriating ? Yeah, it’s partly a delay in funerals. But what is the cause of that delay? Texas is still allowing funerals. They’re just limiting the number of people able to attend. I think many of these hospitals and funeral homes aren’t really set up to process the number of deaths happening right now. Yes, I think many of the hospitals in hard hit areas just aren’t equipped to deal with the number of deaths that these large covid outbreaks can cause in a short amount of time. It’s not really something that happens very often.

You are correct about Hart island in NYC and the bodies being unclaimed. But there were still many more than usual. There were also refrigerated trucks parked in places like Brooklyn and Queens. My ex GF had numerous trucks parked near the hospital she works at at one point. Their local morgues were full and they couldn’t process the bodies fats enough because of the sheer amount of deaths that were happening at the time. Her hospital (a large NYC hospital) also wasn’t equipped to deal with the amount of deaths they were seeing in a given day/week. They didn’t have the space for the bodies either. Can you show me any examples of hospitals needing refrigerated trucks during flu seasons? I am unaware of this being required during flu seasons (especially at many different hospitals in numerous different states). I couldn’t find anything with a google search where hospitals needed refrigerated trucks to store bodies (outside of for covid). But maybe I missed it. The only thing I saw was an article from 2009 that mentioned it was brought up as a possibility if swine flu deaths spiked.

Yeah I would think delayed funerals could be part of it. Also, Flu season deaths are measured over a 9(ish) month period iirc. (Sept. or October to April or May). So I’m guessing that these covid deaths are happening much more rapidly over a shorter period of time compared to the average flu (that’s what happened in NY anyway). As far as schools closing, this virus isn’t just an average flu or flu season (that hasn’t even started yet!) but I think this topic has already been covered to death between this thread and the facts thread. If you still think this pandemic should be handled like it is just an average flu after everything we’ve witnessed, I’m certainly not going to change your mind by typing a few sentences or providing a few links.

maybe I’m just missing it, but I’ve read 3 of 5 links so far and I don’t see where any of them are really say that experts said it was safe to protest. I see lots of stuff about how the protests didn’t spread covid, but nothing about experts saying it’s safe. - The LA times article says this: He goes on to say (in the paper) that more people staying home may have offset the increase in cases that may have been caused by the protests. - The NPR article reinforces my point - indoor activities (like parties and bars) are spreading covid. “Parties — Not Protests — Are Causing Spikes In Coronavirus“ - The Seattle times article comes the closest I guess, but still doesn’t really say it’s safe to protest. They’re examining the data and saying that outdoor activities seem to be safer. Seems like they’re just drawing conclusions from the data vs. saying it’s safe to protest. The article also goes on to say this: edit - reading the healthline article now. That one is saying that due to protests being outdoors with wind circulating and the UV from the sun and people wearing masks (etc) it made it safer than indoor activity like bars, etc. So the article seems to be saying the opposite of what you’re saying (that if it’s ok to protest, it’s ok for bars and restaurants to be open). ?‍♂️ edit again: and here’s the last article: “Black Lives Matter protests haven't led to COVID-19 spikes. If you read the article in the OP it explains that new era is hurting financially and this has been in the works for over a year. It had absolutely nothing to do with Poloncarz. New Era couldn’t afford the royalties.
