I have a feeling the Bills score at will in this game.  I think it's over by halftime

Every time I picture the game I see the same thing. I don't know if anyone can stop this offense right now and you know Daboll will have a few wrinkles built in for the playoffs. And we haven't really used Allen as a weapon in the rush game this year, something tells me that will change in the playoffs and give defenses one more thing to look out for. A small part of me worries that Allen will suddenly have a bad game, feels like he's due for one. But I'm not especially concerned about it. The way this offense has played over the last month they are Super Bowl caliber.

People are very quick to condem qbs.  Remember when the rest of the league/media and hall the Bills fans thought Josh Allen was bust?

Yes but most of those people didn't actually watch Allen play and improve, and didn't understand his background. Most of the analysis on Allen back then was based on his stats (especially completion percentage) and a couple of his bad plays that went viral on social media. As Bills fans we have watched a lot of Tua. I'm not just looking at a stat sheet. I've seen most of his games this year and if anything I would say he has regressed. In the Raiders and Bills games he looked completely lost, it reminded me of some of Josh Rosen's games in his rookie year. Or EJ Manuel. Generally you want to see your rookie QB improve throughout the season. That's what Allen did that gave Bills fans hope.

So it is possible Tua develops into a legit starter, I just don't know what skills there are to build on. Supposedly his biggest strength coming out of college was accuracy. That has not been the case the last several times he played. I've changed the way that I look at accuracy for QB prospects. Throwing accurately at Alabama does not necessarily equate to throwing accurately in the NFL. It was the same with Baker Mayfield, supposedly one of rhe most accurate QB prospects ever but it didn't turn out that way. In the NFL you have to make split second decisions and throw the ball from muddy pockets more often than not. That means you can't always rely on perfect mechanics like you can at power football colleges. Allen has become an elite QB in part because hs fixed his mechanics, but also because he is naturally gifted at making accurate throws off platform as a result of his natural athleticism and strength. I don't see a lot of potential for Tua to improve in that area enough to become a QB you can win with at the pro level.

I also think like Manuel he has "slow eyes" and doesn't process the field fast enough to make quick decisions that can make up for middling arm strength. Again, playing at Alabama it's not a skill he needed. Allen never had a problem processing the field, he just needed time to learn NFL defenses and stop making stupid decisions in the moment. I think even more than his lack of arm strength, this will be the career killer for Tua.

Probably not, but after everything that happened today and Trump's response I think it's possible. Republicans have nothing to gain from this crap going on.

  5. Forget about Indy's offense, that doesn't matter. In pass defense DVOA, Indy is ranked 8th, worse than Pitt, Miami, and San Fran. Denver is ranked 11th. If our offense plays the way it has over the past month, and I believe it will, Indy will be blown out. I'm not worried about this one.

To win the Super Bowl our offense will not be able to falter in a single game. It's a tall order but that's what it takes to be a champion.

  6. Top 5 passes (so many to choose from, this was hard):
    5) vs LA Rams, Allen to Kroft for the game winning TD
    4) at Las Vegas, Allen to John Brown on a would be TD with a ridiculous throw
    3) at San Francisco, Allen to Gabe Davis through a keyhole (with apologies to Lee Smith)
    2) at Arizona, Allen to Diggs for the would be game winner
    1) at New England, Allen to Diggs for a TD on his last pass of the day, his best throw of the season which also happened to break the Bills TD record set by Jim Kelly

Top 5 rushes (this was hard for the opposite reason)
    5) at Las Vegas, McKenzie shot out of a cannon on 4th and 1 for a big gain
    4) at San Francisco, Allen short TD run on a broken play
    3) at Denver, Allen gallops into the endzone on the way to clinching the AFC East
    2) at New England, Allen fakes out the whole defense on a long 4th and 1 run
    1) vs New England, Zach Moss gets pushed into the endzone by the o-line

    Top 5 catches/receiving plays:
    5) vs Pittsburgh, Diggs bounces off two defenders and picks up a bunch of yards on a drive that helped us put the game away
    4) at Arizona, Beasley with a leaping catch and toe tap to keep our would be game winning drive alive
    3) at Miami, Gabe Davis makes an unreal catch in the endzone to give us the lead
    2) at Arizona, Diggs catches the would be game winner
    1) at New England, Diggs makes a ridiculous catch on a ridiculous pass to get Allen the Bills TD record
(I realize I'm cheating by having 1 and 2 the same for passes and catches, but can you blame me?)

    Top 5 defensive plays:
    5) vs Miami, Norman pick 6
    4) vs Seattle, Klein strip sack of Wilson
    3) at Denver, White forced fumble and Hughes TD return
    2) vs New England, Justin Zimmer forced fumble for the win
    1) vs Pittsburgh, Taron Johnson pick 6 changes the momentum

    Top 5 special teams plays:
    5) at NY Jets, Bass kicks a 40 yard field goal to tie the franchise record with six field goals in a game
    4) vs New England, Matakevich with a heads up play on a surprise onside kick
    3) vs Miami, Bojorquez with the best coffin corner punt I've ever seen
    2) at New England, fake punt conversion
    1) vs Miami, McKenzie punt return TD

I understand your point about McKenzie not being heavily involved/just being a gadget guy back in 2018 when we brought him in, even though we were hurting at WR.  I like Isaiah McKenzie so I watch for him on film.  The piece that needs to be remembered is that he was pretty much a rookie as a WR when we signed him in 2018 - very few targets, maybe 10? 12? with Denver in 2017.  He was used by Den as a PR/KR until he fumbled his way out of the job (6 fumbles with Den, 2 with us)

I definitely have some recency bias in saying this but McKenzie has become one of my favorite players on the offense. Daboll has him doing a little bit of everything. YardsPerPass on Twitter pointed out he was put in motion to be an extra blocker on the TD to John Brown:

So McKenzie was responsible at least in part for every TD we scored in the 1st half.

McDermott called him out very specifically in the post game presser when he said "McKenzie is another example of a player coming here to be the best version of themselves" (somewhat paraphrased). I would say he represents that philosophy better than anyone on the team.

If they're saying that it's because they're now admitting they were wrong based on their bias and big media perception. They're just hedging their confession and outing themselves as jokes.

This. There are two common refrains from the media people that have hated on him since day 1:

    1) Bills fans were wrong to be optimistic about Allen, he just happened to beat the odds and we got lucky.

    2) If Allen had been drafted by the Jets he would be a bust and if Darnold had been drafted by the Bills he would be a star.

So basically they pretend Allen only turned out good because of pure circumstance and luck, rather than admit they were wrong about him being a bust.

I was completely against drafting Allen but even I knew by the end of his first season he was not a bust. It was just a matter of when the improvement would stop. The people that thought he was a bust after year one or two were either jaded beyond repair Bills fans or analysts that clearly didn't watch every game.

I really love the people that say Allen walked into a perfect situation and Brian Daboll is a QB whisperer. Go look at Allen's supporting cast in 2018 and 2019 and see the offenses Daboll had before he had a generational QB and generational WR fall into his lap. People will say anything rather than admit they were just wrong about him.

Most feel Lynn just used Roman's playbook and called plays

Okay... and he did a better job of it than Roman did. I'm sure any OC that comes here will be basically using Daboll's playbook. Allen is going to give them the scheme. All they have to do is not screw it up and maybe find a way to get the running game going. I just don't get excited about Dorsey. He could be good, I'll trust the Bills to make the right decision. But I'm not automatically sold on him.

  10. In weighted DVOA (takes recent games into account more than early season games) the Bills are the #1 overall team heading into the postseason:

    https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/nfl/team-efficiency/2020

Saints are a very close 2nd, then it's Bucs, Packers, and Seahawks rounding out the top 5. Colts are 9th.

Every team in the top 10 is in the playoffs. Titans, Redskins, Bears, and Browns all fall outside the top 10; Cleveland is the worst at 18th overall.

    Other notable rankings:

    Offensive weighted DVOA 5th

    Pass DVOA 3rd

    Rush DVOA 22nd

    Defensive weighted DVOA 8th

    Pass DVOA 12th

    Rush DVOA 17th

(our full season DVOA weighing all games equally is 12th, so that shows you how much we've improved in recent weeks)

    Special teams weighted DVOA 2nd

So heading into the post season we have the 5th best offense, 8th best defense, and 2nd best special teams in the league. A well rounded team which makes us the best overall.

  11. I'm surprised by the negative reaction. Lynn failed as a head coach because he has no situational awareness in critical game moments. That's a head coaching skill, not a coordinator skill. He helped develop Herbert into the likely OROY and had one of the best passing offenses in the league. He was also a good OC here, with very little talent at this disposal. I think this would be a great hire. I'm all for continuity but nothing about Dorsey excites me. What has he proved?

In the locker room after the game, every guy on the Bills must have felt invincible.

We talk about the depth on the team but really that credit goes to the coaches. Mike Love and Dean Marlowe aren't guys that could go and start anywhere. I would bet they have the same talent level as any other backup or practice squad player in the league. The difference is that, like the Patriots, McDermott and the other coaches have their players ready. Mike Love makes a great tackle for a loss, I bet it's because a coach told him pre-snap to be on the look out for that alignment. Every single player is prepared to be the best version of themselves game in and game out. That's what separating the Bills from every other team in the league right now. Well, that and our superstar QB. But Allen himself is the result of that same mindset.

I think we would all care if the Bills were eliminated this way.  What are you talking about there?

Not me. If the Bills were 6-10 and relying on a bad football team to miraculously back us into the playoffs I wouldn't be upset if we didn't make it. I'd be disappointed in the things that we controlled that kept us out. In 2017 the Ravens were knocked out of the playoffs in part because Miami started David Fales at QB against us. I don't remember that being a storyline. It's just a thing teams will do when their season is over and they have nothing to lose.

Do not even try to tell me they were trying to evaluate sudfield by putting him in the last quarter of the season. You're just wrong.

So why did they go aggressive on 4th and goal if it was an intentional tank? Good chance if Hurts hits that throw the Eagles would have won the game.

This reminds me everyone accusing Gregg Williams of intentionally giving away the Raiders game. The simple answer is that bad coaches make bad decisions and bad rosters lose football games in any number of ways. If a coach actually wanted to intentionally throw a game it would be really obvious what was happening.

I'll admit there are gray areas.  But the Steelers and Chiefs still fielded competitive teams  (or in the Bills' case in the 2nd half dominant teams :D ) and most importantly they were resting players in the pursuit of a championship, not pursuing a loss in and of itself.  I do not believe Pederson for a second that he tried to win that game.

I think it was 2017 where the Dolphins started David Fales in our week 17 game. That win got us into the playoffs. I don't remember anyone caring at the time and I don't think there was an injury involved. In this case people are upset because they feel the Eagles intentionally lost to screw the Giants out of a playoff spot which makes absolutely no sense to me at all. Obviously I'm alone on this so I'll just let it be...

  16. 12 minutes ago, Process said:

You can't tell me benching him was a move to try and win.

I'm not saying Pederson actually thought Sudfeld gave them a better chance to win, he was just trying something new for the heck of it because Hurts was really bad. Again - the Chiefs and Steelers both sat starters today. It is not the case that every team goes all out to win in week 17 and there's never been an unspoken rule of integrity. I guarantee if it's the Bills and not the Giants that were 6-10 and eliminated from the playoffs in this game no one would care.

  17. 3 minutes ago, SageAgainstTheMachine said:

Hurts wasn't playing well but he was already dangerous enough with his legs to lead 2 scoring drives.  They didn't have zero chance with him in there and it was a 3 point game.  They had zero chance with Sudfeld.  Based on what we saw Sudfeld couldn't lead a single scoring drive if you gave him 60 minutes.

Oh well. It's the last game of the season in a game Pederson knows is meaningless. Why not see what Sudfeld can do? Teams use week 17 to experiment all the time. Did the Chiefs ruin league integrity because they sat Mahomes? Did the Steelers screw over the Dolphins by unfairly gifting Cleveland a win? Just weird to me how everyone is jumping on Philadelphia.

    4 minutes ago, 4merper4mer said:

They decided not to tie the game with a chip shot FG late in Q3.  And while Hurts was not playing well he had led 2 scoring drives and had a 10000000000000 times better chance to do it once more than Sudfeld did.

You mean the 4th down where Hurts had a wide open WR that he badly missed? We're using that decision to be aggressive and call a successful play as evidence that Pederson was tanking the game? I mean I guess it's true Hurts gave them a better chance than Sudfeld but seemingly not much. I don't have a problem with them trying some things in a meaningless game. It isn't unusual.
