Lamar Jackson wants guarantees that exceed Watson contract
HappyDays replied to SCBills's topic in The Stadium Wall
He has absolutely lost money by not having an agent. Where are his commercials? Where are his endorsement deals? Allen has Gillette. Mahomes and Rodgers have State Farm. Brady has Subway. Even Baker Mayfield had Progressive and at no point in his career has he been a better QB than Lamar Jackson. Lamar has been an MVP and one of the most famous faces in the NFL since he's been a starter. All he has to show for it financially is the earnings from his rookie contract. He could have several endorsement deals and $100 million guaranteed locked up by now. He's being stupid and/or getting bad advice, no way you can argue otherwise. -
And around and around we go...

I believe that players signed for one year contracts for less than $1.75 million do not count towards the comp pick formula. If I'm correct this is an especially great signing. If Singletary signs elsewhere we will be -1 net free agents which will earn us a 3rd rounder for Edmunds next year. Edit: This is affirmed here: https://overthecap.com/the-basics-and-methodology-of-projecting-the-nfls-compensatory-draft-picks

Eight weeks ago I would have agreed with you. For me it's about how much I love Jack Campbell as a fit for our team, not about wanting a LB in the 1st round. On defense I think more than talent we are missing a certain type of player. Big, physical, imposing. I see Jack Campbell stop guys dead in their tracks and drag them backwards. He's big and hits like it. I don't want any defensive player in the 1st or 2nd round that doesn't fit that mold. I don't think it's a coincidence that our defense gets pushed around in the playoffs every year. We're missing players that have a violent edge. To me, adding that edge to our defense is just as important as adding talent on offense.

I love him. I think be could Allen's Travis Kelce for the next 10 years. If we don't take him I think he goes to the Bengals. If Dorsey wants to implement more 2 TE sets Kincaid and Knox would be quite the pair.

What would you trade for Jerry Jeudy?
HappyDays replied to RocCityRoller's topic in The Stadium Wall
No 1st round WR we get will be a pro bowl player, yet. None of them will have achieved anything in the pros. Any 1st round WR we would draft would be because we like their upside to become that caliber of player. That's why I support trading for Jeudy. He still has tremendous upside and even right now he is better than Gabe Davis. He's just now entering his age 24 season and his most recent season was his best yet. He played in a moribund offensive scheme with one of the worst starting QBs in the league and he drew #1 WR coverage. He missed 2 games. All of that going against him and he still collected 972 receiving yards and 6 TDs. I posted this highlight video in the other Jerry Jeudy thread: Yeah I know it's a highlight video, it doesn't tell the whole story. But there are several plays in there that no one currently on our roster could make. He has a true #2 skillset with #1 upside. That's exactly the kind of WR you take at the bottom of the 1st round. Plus he only costs $4.8 million against the cap this year and would likely cost about $13 million in 2024 once we pick up his 5th year option. The same way you're flabbergasted anyone would want to trade a 1st for him, I'm flabbergasted anyone wouldn't. I felt the same way about the Stefon Diggs trade in 2020. A no-brainer. This would be the lower floor/higher ceiling version of that trade. -
So that's where the market is for him right now. Maybe once he realizes a one year prove it deal is the best way to earn more money in the future, like JuJu did with the Chiefs last year, we can get him for one year $5 million.
-
And if people don't want to take your word for it, the coaching staff gave him almost no defensive snaps after his awful showing against the Jets. He was even inactive for the divisional round. They clearly had no faith in him and I'll be shocked if he's really the plan at MLB. Dodson I could maybe see even though I wouldn't be comfortable with that solution at all.

Turns out Joe Buscaglia reported the wrong cap hits. $1.25m more each year than originally reported. Whatever.
-
Only $3.6m against the cap this year. I hope this doesn't cost us a 3rd round comp pick but I'm very happy with that number.
-
Yeah, a lot of grace shown as he seeks new employment from another team. If only he hadn't aired the team's dirty laundry on Ty Dunne's podcast over the past couple seasons I could take his parting message more seriously. I think the locker room gains more than it loses with McKenzie off the team. Maybe not a popular opinion but I for one was sick of his antics.

Might go down as the clumsiest athlete ever to earn several million dollars. An inspiration to millions of teenagers tripping over their own feet.

Turns out 2 years $12 million is what he got, so there you go. It was the best the market had to offer him.

Singletary—inarguably above average statistically: discuss
HappyDays replied to dave mcbride's topic in The Stadium Wall
Really? I think he's a well below average receiving back. He had the 3rd highest drop percentage of qualifying RBs last year at 11.5%. His acceleration is poor which means he's not a great check down option since it takes him too long to get going. For a pass-heavy offense this is in fact probably the biggest reason he isn't worth a 2nd contract. -

Because we're incredibly tight against the cap and still have several holes. Who is filling in for Von Miller while he recovers? Who is our MLB? Who is next in line behind Oliver and Jones? Who is first in if Diggs or Davis go down? Every one of these needs is harder to fill in the draft than a RB that can run against light boxes. We can make do with Hines (who already carries a big cap hit in his own right) and Cook and a rookie. Let our 2nd round pick from last year be the #1 RB. If he can't be, it was a bad pick. In lieu of the run game I'm hoping our plan this year is to get the RBs and Knox and Harty more involved in the quick passing game. -

I think Singletary is a fine RB but he has no special traits. That's not a RB you give a 2nd contract to, not when your cap space is as tight as ours is. He's consistent but I wish he had even league average burst. Our offense lacked explosion the past two years. In that context I can't justify paying one of the least explosive RBs in the league. -
Beane still looking to add big bodied RB to roster
HappyDays replied to Inigo Montoya's topic in The Stadium Wall
In theory I love the idea of Henry in this offense but I don't think we can afford him. Too many other needs and too much money invested in Hines to put more than $5 million into another RB. -
Cook, Hines, and draft one on day three. I'm good with that.

What’s your offer for WR Jerry Jeudy?
HappyDays replied to Buffalo_Stampede's topic in The Stadium Wall
I can't even begin to express how excited I would be if we added Jeudy. Adding him plus Deonte Harty immediately gives our offense explosiveness and versatility at every level of the field. The stuff of nightmares for defensive coordinators. Our OL would still be a bit of a concern but with that many weapons on the field we would manage. -

This is a bad answer, but I don't really care. I would trade our hole at #2 WR for a hole at DT in a heartbeat. I'm looking over the list of available DTs right now and I'll admit I'm not knowledgeable enough to say who's worth a starting role. But I'd rather figure that out than rely on Gabe Davis. And I just used Oliver as an example. I'd like to think our 1st alone would be enough to get it done. A 1st plus Oliver is as far as I'd be willing to go if it came to it. -

Alright Brandon, what are we waiting for? Pick 27 plus Ed Oliver. Get it done.
