  1. And it blew up in their faces, and they didn't learn from it. I wanted Rosen for the simple reason that he would be harder to screw up. Allen could be the best QB of the class, it is possible. I just don't think we have the personnel and patience needed to make that happen. If he could sit behind someone like Rothlisberger, and develop chemistry with recievers that have speed and hands look out. But we are not even close to having that kind of support, and his early development will be key. Whats the point of having a qb with a rocket arm, wothout recievers who can stretch the filed? I can't see a scenario where this will work out.
  2. With regard to your last point, they benched a starter for a 5th round rookie while they were in playoff contention and that rookie threw 5 picks. I can't think of a better example of blindly rushing headlong into a bad decision, or evidence of the head coach's inability to evaluate QB play. But forget about the tape. Allen is... tall and he has BIG HANDS, so he'll probably still be able to throw in a snow storm. What we need is for every game to be played in a snow storm, and his accuracy issues will balance out.
  3. The frusterating thing, for me, is the cockiness and unwillingness to learn from mistakes. He looks good throwing in a t-shirt and shorts, and it is presumed that he is cleaning up his footwork issues. But here's the problem: lots of QB's show improvement with regards to mechanics during workouts, but when its time to step on the field they can easily go back to bad habits, especially if the game is too fast for them. Even if he shows better touch in workouts, the over striding and overthrowing could easily return during key game situations when the intensity ramps up. Expect it to, because he has 0 experince against the level of competition that the NFL has. Plus, our coaching staff has already overevaluated one QB in practice, and put him in when he wasn't ready. So now we now have another 5 pick disaster waiting to happen. All of this 'our guys' character nonsense is going to get ugly, real fast. And the nepotism starts at the top. You don't trade up for a project when your coach is a glorified Defensive Coordinator, and your offensive coordinator is coming out of college. McD can easily ruin this guy by putting him in too soon. And when the team starts loosing, because we got rid of all our talent, he'll probably do it to try and save his Job. And then maybe this guy pans out somewhere down the line after we've gotten rid of him, and a team who knows how to develop QB's gets him. I don't trust this process, at all. And I hope that I'm wrong.
  4. Looks good throwing in a t-shirt and shorts. Looks bad in games. He needs a qb whisperer and we don't have a qb whisperer (our OC is from Alabama). I would be ok with Allen in the first if we didn't trade up and we had staff in place that he could work with. We don't have that, at the moment, so they better open up their wallets and hire a top QB coach ASAP. We threw a hail mary on a third and short to a number 2 wideout, when a number one wideout was open in intermediate range. Get ready to tank, as well, because they have to target a number 1 wideout next year.
  5. And come training camp and OTAs a QB we traded up for could be 3rd on the depth chart, facing a level of talent he has never seen before against the practice squad. Rosen might not pan out, in the long term, either. But he's miles ahead of Allen with regard to his ability to start immediately. It could be 3-5 years and a regime change for us to have a shot at replacing this kid. Arizona will know what they have with Rosen much earlier, as he will likely see playing time this year. And these timelimes matter, by the way, because they won't look for another QB as long as he's on the roster. When you trade into the top 10 you are married to that player, and your not going to draft anyone else for a while. And in the event that he becomes serviceable, we will lose his rookie pay scale years, and be forced to hand out a starter contract with very little sample size to go on. This is the kind of pick that might have made sense in the 80's, not today. Based on where they took him, he will be able to demand an inflated contract extension. And he will have to ride the bench for a year at least. Alot can go wrong here; the risk is just too big.
  6. TT is the killer for me. Allen will not be an upgrade immediately, if ever. And we passed on 3 potential upgrades to aquire the capital to draft him. Rosen could have been there at 12, and it would have been the steal of the draft. Instead, we fall in love with a kid who looks the part, but can't play. Its classic nepotism.
  7. As predicted, lots of criticism of the pick this morning. Once again, the Bills front office is a laughing stock. So was Bortles, and he sucks.
  8. Sadly, this is the problem. Pegula gets enamored with a defensive minded coach, who picks a defensive minded GM, and they evaluate QB's as if they were defenders. Allen can probably throw a mean block, but thats not going to help much.
  9. Yeah, uh, I'm pretty sure that is not what he said
  10. Its his legs that really make me hot! There like two mighty oaks, pumping furiously....one after the other.
  11. 237 pounds, and he's a real high character guy.
  12. Wait, just wait for him to take the field. And You will see bubble screens flying over the recievers head. But he is....tall.
  13. Yup. Trading up for a project QB always works out. Happens regularly. Clearly they know nothing about offense. And Arizona is laughing.
  14. Clearly, management is clueless when it comes to offense. Rosen might not be great, that is true, Allen might not even start, that is also true.
  15. The point is that we passed on Rosen because of character.
  16. This is why we can't have nice things. Silly character concerns.
  17. Neither matter if you were born after 1980. Well actually, I should rephrase that. The tweet might be a modern family quote. If it is, no one will care. If not, problems.Mayfield, who cares. Incognito was far worse.
  18. Meaningless. Look at their ints on tape, and watch Darnold throw into double coverage. And think about what that might project to in the NFL.Those stats don't really say much at the college level. I get the point, but wouldn't trust the sample sizes. A similar argument was made regarding EJ manuel's accuracy. And I wanted to believe it at the time. Unfortunately, It didnt turn out well
  19. This could work out quite well for us. If Rosen slips. It keeps Baker away from Miami. And puts Darnold up against our secondary.
  20. Rosen is the only day one projected starter. And I would actually prefer to have Mayfield out of the division and Darnold slipping to the jets. With his interception issues, the complete lack of offensive talent on the Jets side, and the presssure of the New York market to start him too quickly I could see him busting there, real easy, and setting the Jets back for another 5 years. Baker is the one QB I would not want to play against regularly. He gets the ball out too fast. If he develops, he will be hard to game play for; Darnold not so much.
  21. Either of the top 2 lbs is a perfect fit given draft position and team needs, so calling either one of those picks a failure is really short sighted. I get that alot of people want a qb (and I do to for that matter) but passing on inmediate starters and potential pro bowlers for need can get a GM fired just as easily as failing to address the qb position. A pro bowl lb could give them the best D in the division for years to come. Especially if the jets and Dolphins swing and miss at QB. If draft history tells us anything its that skipping rare talent for need is dangerous.
  22. Team need and positional depth are the real blind spots here, so its difficult, if not impossible, to put alot of stock into what is being said. The draft is deep at some positions, shallow at others. If you need interior lineman, rbs, and help in the secondary, why not trade down. Lots of round 2 players and round 3 players regularly exceed expectations, and plenty of 1st rounders bust, irregardless of where they are slotted.
