WRs - Overall Grade F: requires a complete rebuild for 2017
CanadianFan replied to San-O's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Biggest problem with the WRs: a QB who can get the ball to them. 2nd biggest problem: lack of Top Flight TRAINERS who work on PREVENTING injuries instead of TREATING them when it happens. -

Steelers team hotel evacuated due to false fire alarm
CanadianFan replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
honestly. Why don't Bills fans adopt that and do that to them when they come here just to even the playing field? This team is just so blatent. spygate, firealarms, radio jams, deflategate, and whatever else they're getting away with. -
Man that's a good history lesson. Particularly the 2013. I remember that draft being not particularly deep on QBs. Yet Bills still reached for a QB bec. the outgoing GM wanted to leave the Bills with a franchise QB. And we passed on the 2014 because we had a 1st round invested in EJ. That's why I'm hoping Bills will be strategic, aim for a QB in 2018 and make do with a bridge QB this year. Unicorns aren't made every year. Best to wait rather than hope one of your guys turn into one.

Well of course you do. It is peculiar to the American nation. Unique cultural invention of the American nation. The real football played with feet (hence, football LOL) has a beauty of its own. And so does American football. Each one's appeal is on its own. Notice how the rest of the world has (not!) enthusiastically adopted it despite US being the most powerful nation (that's how football or soccer spread - the Brits once ruled the world!). That said me and Polishdave aren't dissing it. I love it. It just isn't global that's all. haha.
-
Hope you're right. I hope he falls down the draft ready for us to catch him xD

I think Bills will have a high pick in 2018, likely higher than this year's. IF the other guys are gone (Darnold, Rosen, Jackson), I wouldn't mind having him as Bills pick. I like two way threats as it gives an offense most options. But last I looked pocket passers are still doing great things in this league. That's why this draft class is rich in QBs.
-
I keep hearing that 2018 draft is going to be one of the best QB drafts in a long time. I heard Phil Simms say how college ranks have terrific prospects coming into the league because unlike his generation these kids grew up with QB coaches since they were 5 and had been coached well on all the fundamentals and how excited he is for the league. And I gotta think it has to be this: http://www.deepishthoughts.com/potentially-stacked-2018-qb-class/ there's a bit more discussion on this here: http://beargoggleson.com/2017/01/19/bears-must-wait-year-draft-quarterback/ And I'm liking how Darnold looked in that Rosebowl comeback when I thought for sure Penn State's wrapped it up. In the biggest of stages, he rose to the occasion. And even more impressive for a freshman to do that. Watson of course equaled him a few days later in national championship. Both are dual-threat QBs. Like how Bears' fanside is saying, would it be better for Bills to pick a QB this coming year, or go for the 2018 draft class? Who would you pick? Darnold or Watson?

And to bring this thread back to topic, no I don't think Whaley meant rebuild. He said "competitive". Lower fan expectations - no "playoffs?!" talk. He meant "we got 20+ FAs, we still don't got a franchise QB, and looking ahead at 2017 sched we can't have a winning season unless many things miraculously go our way, so why not be smart, develop young players this coming year and get that franchise QB in 2018 draft so we can win consistently in the next decade". I'm on board with that.

You don't know how hilarious it is for a Canadian to see this discussion. I'm glad some have the self-awareness to realize this! LOL Living north of the border I'm used to hearing stuff like this - take everything that's US and make it "world". But everyone knows that the only champions of the world are which ever nation wins the World Cup. Indeed the Emperor does have new clothes. xD

Agreed. I'd like to see this guy win a playoff game in Bills uniform before his career ends. Keeps his mouth shut. Goes to work. Gives his best every game. Belichick kinda guy.

Chargers Hire Gus Bradley as DC
CanadianFan replied to HumbleAndHungry's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Playoffs for Chargers says this. They had better personnel to get to playoffs than 2016 version of Bills. I honestly think expectations were just too friggin high here. Including Saint Kelly's. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000773378/article/los-angeles-chargers-are-playoff-contender-in-2017 -
yeah that's wishful thinking. IF everything goes their way, heck, they win superbowl! yeah right. not with this team. not with the players they got, or can get. Not superbowl material.

Alexander named AFC East defensive MVP by ESPN
CanadianFan replied to Saxum's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
This is a credit to Whaley for finding players that fit Rex's scheme. Rex is gone. Even as a backup or situational player, does he fit what McD wants to do? If there's one thing Whaley and this scouting group's been great at, is drafting and finding NFL quality LBs. I'm not going to fret about it if they don't sign him. I know they'll find another who'll just step in and fill the shoes. -
so TBN said what some of you were thinking and saying.. and what I was thinking and didn't want to say it... and it also explains why TT was in the building when McDermott held his presser. And the Dennison hiring just fills in the pieces of the puzzle. sorry if someone else posted here already. http://buffalonews.com/2017/01/20/examining-rick-dennisons-hiring-means-tyrod-taylor/

Good recall. You're talking about upsets. Those don't go consistently your way - thus "upset". Odds are not good for 2017. The D will need to return to the form of Schwartz year, and then we can talk realistically about making more of those upsets. If this coaching staff gets them to 500 in 2017, that would be amazing. But doubt it.
-
YES! What's the most glaring need for the Bills? That unicorn called a Franchise QB. 2018 QB class is supposedly awesome. All the messaging from the new HC and GM says we want to be "competitive". That means they expect a 500 season at best. Why waste money on middling FAs to be competitive? If that's all you can get to, use your development players instead of expensive FAs, just tank and get the best picks of the 2018 class.

2017 Team by Team Salary Cap Tracker
CanadianFan replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
NE has bigger cap space than losing teams and IS in a major media market? Damn Kraft's making tons of money over there. That's how you manage a team. That's the very definition of having your cake and it too. He's living the friggin dream. I hope he's paying Belicheat a good cut of the cap space money Belicheat is saving him. -
I hope he still wants to prove something, for himself. We'll learn his motivation later on. True, I feel you. Jim Kelly's shadow looms large here. we'll see what this coaching staff and Doug will do. It is possible to win without a great QB. Heck if Rex's D had been half as good as his Raven's or early Jets D with the O we had the last 2 years, the results would have been different. And that's why he got fired and we all know that. Bright side is we got something to look forward to the 2018 QB draft class. I hope Bills tank this year.

well, take a look: 2017 Buffalo Bills Opponents HOME: Miami, New England, NY Jets, Denver, Oakland, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Indianapolis AWAY: Miami, New England, NY Jets, Kansas City, LA Chargers, Atlanta, Carolina, Cincinnati That's no cake walk there. Oh yeah. Everyone's going to win the powerball right? yeah there was probably a metric to imperial conversion error there. LOL I think the team needs some stability. There's a lot to be said for stability. Take a look at Toronto Raptors. They've gone from absolute bottom to the second best in the east, without any real super star talent (super hard working players yes), and a coach who isn't a genius in ANYONE's opinion. The stability in core players and coaching staff has led to much of the success. And unlike the NBA, "team" play can still lead to championships in the NFL where you need 53 players and not just 5.
-
Sabres are the same. They gave it a good try with the prior management, spent the money. Didn't work, they got new GM, there're new players with upside. That's learning curve. Not every team can win in any pro league. Someone being on top means someone at the bottom. Can't fault them at all. What I'd fault is they spent more money then they should have in players and coaches. That raised expectations beyond what should have been given the talent level.
-
Let's not get ahead of ourselves. We've been here before. He's a good coach. Not a genius. It's tough sched. 4-12. 8-8 is best case scenario. With 24 FAs Whaley will have to do some magic to fill the spots.
-
Awesome! A superbowl winning OC. Probably the best of who's available really. Seems like an understated guy too, which fits in with HC's personality. He did a pretty good job with Siemian as starter. That O looked inventive despite a young QB in there. Denver's problems were with the O line.

I disagree. Bad ownerships won't spend money on players, MILKS the franchises of money, RAISING ticket prices while the team LOSES because of a faithful fanbase (Toronto Mapleleafs, Toronto FC). Pegulas have spent money on this roster, spent a ton on coaching staff that was, prior to Bills' tenure had somewhat successful track records. And last I checked, Bills ticket prices are some of the lowest in the NFL. Yes they are still learning, but you're lucky to have a team in upstate NY. This team would make more money in Toronto. Heck yeah the product's been bad, I agree. At least it's been ENTERTAINING! Rex didn't win, but crap he WAS entertaining. Shady and Watkins are still worth watching even on a losing team. It could be worse. Bills got somewhat relevant again, and not the complete laughing stock that it was in prior years.
