ALL of this is correct! McD is a very good, regular season HC. He is a failure every time in the biggest playoff games. Those are the facts, Jack. In the vast majority of the most critical playoff games, his QB- the same who contributed mightily to his impressive Regular Season Win totals, has left the Bills and McD with the lead late. His D cannot prevent the failure. We all hope that the D improves, because the Bills fortunes rest almost solely on 17.

in general, because of #17, I am almost always onside of McD going for it on 4th Downs. So, I am NEVER, EVER agreeing to punt inside the 40 on 4th D, IF the Bills are behind! But, it’s never just that simple equation. It involves: 1) Are you up one score (7)? 2) How many TOs does the opposing team have left? 3) Who is the opposing team’s QB? 4) How many seconds are left on the clock? 5) And for the fool who suggested… what about the punt return… you INSTRUCT the punter to aim for the 17 yard line and kick it out of bounds! That reduces time by 5 seconds and gives the ball to Mahomes between the 15 & 20… normally with NO TOs! That was the safest, easiest call in this situation. It wasn’t made. Very concerning that McD doesn’t grasp that.

Absolutely- but we are in the minority here. This was in the ballpark of ‘13 Seconds’- absolutely. Should OUR FG Kicker make that kick and seal the game? Absolutely! But, the trade off is obvious if he misses! McD, in the biggest moments, cannot figure out time v.s. distance single choices. Just like in 13 seconds, you kick the ball to REDUCE TIME LEFT! 100%! In that situation, while the Chiefs had 2 TOs, the time is reduced to about 9 seconds- 2 plays from the 30 yard line. In this case, the Chiefs had ZERO TOs and Bills were up 7. Ergo, you Punt to do BOTH things- push them back 20 yards or more and take 5 seconds off the clock. McD can NEVER be trusted to make the correct choice.

This is a continuing source of great stress for all of us AND OBD. While Cook is outstanding and finally, finally took a designed hitch PASS for a critical first down and the TEs can get both open and catch- MORE via trade is clearly needed! How do these terrible things keep happening to the Bills. Barely on the field, Hoecht is the latest Miller… total bust! THAT was vintage brain dead McClapper! It is a failure to understand time left and distance, exactly as you have described it. He needs a guy beside him with a cattle prod to give him a shot whenever he’s about to make an idiotic move- like that. Finally… 4th & 17s should never be a coin toss (50-50) achievement with the opposing team. Seems like there are waaaaaay too many of these long 3rd and/ 4th and easy completions! All on McD and the D.
