He hasn’t made his typical Micah Hyde plays this year and with yet another neck issue it’s probably smart for him to call it a career. Wouldn’t be surprised if the Bills are starting two new safeties next year.

Agree. There will be two new safties.

I'm not sold on both Cam Lewis and Tyler Rapp. They may start one.

I know they aren't going to draft a starter... so what fruit can be found on the FA market? Beane was kicking the can down the road with safety, now he's forced to deal with it.

This isn't pretty: players target their opponents injuries.

For that reason, players who are dinged up don't want to show on the injury report unless they miss enough practice that the league requires it of them.  Players who are actually injured don't want to disclose specifics of their injuries.

Plus, all that aside, some players like to preserve their medical privacy.

I wonder if it originally wasn't diagnosed as torn, or if it was only slightly torn but then tore worse.

The NFL could go the NHL route:

"He has an upper body injury"

"He has a lower body injury"

Chiefs have a top notch secondary, with a corner like Snead that they can plaster on Diggs.  They have a good pass rush, centered around Chris Jones and they have fast/twitchy linebackers that they used to spy Allen.

Dallas has a similar DL, but I don't know enough about them to determine whether they have linebackers that can stop Allen from running and/or a secondary that can cover like the Chiefs can.

Yeah... can Dallas stop Allen from running? Allen ran straight into the line a few times in KC, but his TD run was epic the way he carried tacklers into the end zone: https://www.buffalobills.com/video/bulldozer-josh-allen-carries-tacklers-on-a-six-yard-touchdown-run-bills-at-chief

Spy... doesn't use of a spy use up a LB who could otherwise cover a zone or player? It seems to me having a dedicated spy would create mismatches that the offense could exploit. I don't know, spies do seem to work against Josh.

  4. The Dallas game will come down to Joe Brady's performance. He has 5 half's of really good play calling, followed by 1 half of Dorsey-esq performance.

Did the Chiefs do something in the second half that Dallas will duplicate and shutdown the offense? Is there now enough tape on Brady that people can prepare for him? Joe: please be creative and unpredictable.

PS: I love the new use of James Cook.

  5. Josh Allen has said more than once that Mahomes is a quality person. I will give that endorsement more weight than Mahomes meltdown.

I'm an old curmudgeon who doesn't like much of the new music--but I have to admit when the daughter plays Taylor Swift, I don't vomit. But I'm really sick of the Kelce/Swift coverage. The NFL is exploiting Swift because they lack young viewers. Singers should be heard, not seen.

    Awesome stuff OP,

It was nice to see most of the bounces and penalty calls going Buffalo's way for a change. The Mahomes meltdown was not a good look for him.  Joe Brady with another impressive game plan and play call vs the defending Superbowl champs. I really liked the way we looked today OP. Glad you could be there to represent.

    Thanks for sharing

Yeah, it was a regretful look for him. If you believe Josh Allen--Mahomes is a quality person. I bet if he had a chance to rant all over again, he wouldn't.

I also believe that the complaining about the officiating after the game was a bit of damage control on the part of Reid and Mahomes that was concocted between Mahomes' outburst and the press conferences. Mahomes' frustration on the sidelines was directed at his teammates -- offensive line and Toney in particular -- rather than at the officials. During his tirade you can clearly read Mahomes lips to say, "Offensive line, what offensive line?" Reid would rather have them outwardly complain about the officiating than show the whole world the inner-team turmoil.

It's the second time I have read this theory. I believe it is correct. Reid doesn't want to air dirty laundry, so he sides with Mahomes' as the lessor of two evils.

How can you say it was a non-factor? You could see how motivated they all were.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks maybe Beane paid Dunne to put this out there to unite the team.

    Well, that's a unique perspective.

Spain is possibly a person distraction and leaking things. When Bills moved on Dorsey. I think Spain posted something on wrong person.

Yeah. There is some muddy water out there regarding Spain. He was here during the 9/11 speech, and he has said negative things about McD.

  9. If I recall correctly: the Bills cut Matt in late August. Being late in the preseason, there were very few punters left on the market. Hence, the desperate Bills ended up with the unwanted Sam Martin.

No good deed (cutting Araiza) goes unpunished (signing Martin).

The Bills need to find a new punter. I would support them bringing in Araiza given the facts that have emerged from the alleged incident. I know that will never happen.

  10. So I wonder...how does Dunne feel about the KC victory?

On one hand, I've heard he is supposedly a Bills fan. In which case he should feel pretty good.

On the other hand, the Bills won despite Dunne's hatchet job. The McDermott expose proved to be a non-factor to the players. The four year old 9/11 quote and other interview gotchas didn't sway the needle. Even the resulting Saturday Night Live hit on McDermott was met with meh response. (that show has sucked for decades--since Farley and Spade left)

Dunne.. I wonder how many new subscribers he got.

After all the adversity over the past several weeks and the underachieving of the season, today will show the true character of our team, and maybe more so, where the team stands in regards to McDermott.

Will they play all-out? Balls to the wall?

    I'd like to think so.

If this team plays up to its talent level, they should win in a resounding manner.

I hate to break it to you: the Bills roster is not very good.

The preseason talking heads unrealistic praise for the Bills didn't do fans any favors.

Wow. I slipped on black ice once and cracked my head pretty hard on the pavement. I didn't do anything about it. If it happens again, I am going to the ER.

  13. Beat the Bruins at their home, then lose at home to the .500-ish Canadiens. This team is wildly inconsistent game to game. You never know which Sabres you're going to get.

That inconsistency indicates a coaching problem. It's Granato's job to prepare the team and press whatever buttons are needed to get them on the ice ready to play. He's not fulfilling the basics of his job description.

  14. I don't get this forum's love for Daboll as Bills HC.

He has a unproven record as HC. His OC success could be attributable to luck of the draw--having Josh Allen as QB.

At this point in his career, he's a posterboy for the Peter Principle, which is:

    Quote

employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent, as skills in one job do not necessarily translate to another

I didn't in my original post  say McDermott has run amok with the organization.

Your usage of the word AMOK insinuating that was what I said, was what you accused others of doing to support your world view.

Just interpreting things that support YOUR world view.

You should reread the post again.

Yep. For your jollies, I read your post again. You said:

    Quote

McDermott came in and Pegula made him "Czar" "One Voice".
Of which he had no experience.

From all accounts he went way beyond "Coaching".
If allegations are true.  He had his hand in some dismissals, not just his underlings which He certainly  would be responsible for, but above what a Football coach in a billion dollar  organization would be involved in or responsible for.

I am sure we have all seen this, given authority goes to their head.

So does one not expect at some point the fan would be turned his way and the **** would hit it.

Amok isn't your words, but the bolded passages and your whole post pose McDermott as running amok.

I fall back on my original critique of your fuzzy words "from all accounts" and "if allegations are true" and my noting you got the "made him Czar" part wrong.

  16. Just now, beer can shower said:

that article you referenced was from May of 2017.

    Do you consider that verifiable?

Beane said in the article "I'm going to be over the football side. Sean's going to be over the coaches. But there's not a czar around here. Sean's not a czar. I'm not a czar. Every decision is going to be collaborative, together."

6 years later how many believe that is the way this organization has been run?

How many believe McDermott "hired" Beane.

The foundation was set in 2017 when both were hired. There isn't even close to enough indicators to suggest that anything has changed since then and that McDermott has morphed into a fully controlling Czar.

You do know a "Czar" would run both the coaching side and personnel side? Anyone who thinks that Beane is subordinate to McDermott just isn't paying attention. Or they are seeing just the things that support their world view.
