First off, I’m a big Brandon Beane supporter, I went into watching his presser for the first time today thinking I’m excited to hear what Brandon Beane has to say about what his plan is and to get some truth on what he was disappointed with this year. I came away, thinking man he really took a defeatist attitude into next year, preparing fans for a year of the same or worse. I wanted to hear we have the best player on the planet quarterbacking our team so we’re gonna do everything in our power to get him what he needs so that we can win a Super Bowl next year because that is always the goal when Josh is our quarterback. I did not hear that. It wasn’t the Brandon Beane I normally appreciate. It was deflating and didn’t make me confident in him or McD for this offseason or next year. He doesn’t have to tell us his specific plan because he’s a good poker player but at least have that passion and that optimism to say we’re gonna win a Super Bowl sooner than later because we still have Josh Allen as our quarterback and my job as GM is going to be to give him everything he needs.

    ...

Beane has stated he won't be seen on Main Street of free agency due to salary cap constraints.

Accordingly, he's not going to make dramatic statements about surrounding Josh with new weapons.

If Beane made a bold statement about getting new great things for Josh, he would be fibbing. That's not his style at all.

  2. I'm not a voracious reader. If forced to name a favorite author, I'd go with Tom Wolfe: Bonfire of the Vanities, The Right Stuff, and others.

I also tend to like anything by P. J. O'Rourke: National Lampoon, and a bunch of other magazines and books.

Tyler Dunne is spot on. Great article I don’t understand how at the very least we couldn’t have told Sean McDermott hey we’re going to explore other options at head coach in the next few weeks. We are not firing you unless we find someone we think will maximize Josh Allens talents and get us to a Super Bowl more than you can.

It’s an off-season that has Hall of Fame coaches just sitting there for the taking. Why not at least check it out.  What’s the worst that happens if we do that? McD gets pissy and resigns. Well thank God for that.

    Names?

I win the PowerBall, grow 5 inches, get 20 years younger and my mansion has an endless supply of supermodels.

Oh, we are talking about the Bills...

    5 inches... where?

Super models are too skinny and high maintenance.

Bill Belichick wants to be in charge of personnel. Until he gives up that requirement, he's out of coaching.

  5. I would say The Buffalo News is on it's last breaths. It may go all digital, but it will be a mere shadow of what it once was.

I don't say this with any amount of pleasure because the BN newsroom is the last of it's kind in WNY. No other media outlet has a comparable newsroom. The local TV station news is meh. Without good press scrutiny, the politicians will run unchecked and it will be ugly.

Fallout? Not sure there would be much.

Beane remains GM. McDermott remains HC.

Joe Brady will either be named OC or they'll do a more thorough search. I'd bet on a defensive coordinator being hired, likely Babich or Washington.

The Bills will draft and sign some players. Some players will leave in free agency.

Then they'll line up and play again next year and be top five in Super Bowl odds again, because they're a good team with a good roster and an elite QB. The window is open and will remain open.

I don't know. McDermott seems to be having fun at DC.

Though, I wish he'd hire a DC regardless.

  7. OP started this as a thread as Ron Rivera Bills DC?

It devolved into Is McDermott Safe?.

    Back to the original topic:

    • McDermott was Rivera's underling at the Panthers. Would both of them be comfortable flipping the table?
    • Rivera is still a viable Head Coach and there are many opportunities open.
    • McDermott has definite opinions on how a defense works; will Rivera be compatible with that?
    • Is Rivera will to move to snow country? Or tax country? (I'm serious, Bflo loses many prospects to this)

PS: McDermott should be and will be safe no matter what happens against the Chiefs. Firing talk is just silly talk.
