I am pretty sure you are wrong on this Bill. I am trying to find the quote but I am pretty sure Russ Brandon was clear when listing responsibilities at the Rex Ryan "we're going" press conference that Rex had total control over his staff reporting only to the Pegulas on that issue. Whaley has no control over coaching staff hires in this Bills structure.
EDIT: Found it -
"VC: Can you give us a sense of how this is going to work now: The reporting situation with the four of you there?"
RB: We can answer your question so we can put this to bed also: when it comes to the fifty-three and player personnel, that’s under the purview of Doug Whaley, the game-day roster and the coaching staff is obviously Coach Ryan and I will have business ops and administration ops and football administration budgets."
Nice find Guns.
Football administration is not football ops. I wonder if that last sentence will silence the RB truthers... nah.

Rob needs a haircut, but at least he has the dignity not wear a pony tail or a man bun.
The guy has to lose weight, he's going to have serious health consequences. He should get the same surgery Rex did.
I'm neutral on the hire.
-
That reminded of Seantrel Henderson and his battle with Crohns disease. I hope he slays it this off season.

This thread is devolving to the toilet.
Does a thread with a solid start devolve quickly?
I'm thinking radiation half-lives .. can this thread be dead by tonight?
Or, in Army terms, it's never to late beat a dead horse to death again.
At this point, 17 pages of carp.

Anything worse than the 2015 record should be viewed as wheel spinning.
Anything worse than the 2015 record should be viewed as wheel spinning.
Agree.

In the world where Pegula doesn't care about mere money and tosses it around like confetti
I believe he is very careful in his decisions. Which is good for Bills, Sabres, and whatever music label that is...
He ain't lighting his cigars with c-notes.
-
I'd say that shows his football involvement
No. It shows he's an advisor (not a decider) to TP on executive decisions, like extending a GM.
And TP, the geologist and billion dollar man is smart enough to consider RB advice, and blow it off when necessary.
If RB were making draft decisions, player personnel decisions, select what tape the trainers use... then he's in football operations.
If TP were a mindless drone who has fallen under the svengali like influence of RD... then RB is in football operations.
Though I do think whomever posted the big noggin of RB in this thread has a knack for production that exceeds Q Tarrantino.

Well, if you want to call a tweet by the team's co-owner with a pic of him signing the contract as an unconfirmed report, then sure, it's unconfirmed.
Well yeah, I'll take the heat for that.
But the first 10 pages of this thread was before that.
I'm not into this world running by twitter...
-
Dudes... OP link is to a unconfirmed report.
This is still rumor and people are discussing it as fact.
This thread is like the "jelly of the month club" the "gift that keeps on giving" (Christmas Vacation).
-
What a stupid move. I'm sure teams were lining up to snag Doug Whaley if he left here..ugh..
Also, let's not forget all the geniuses here proclaiming "Russ is NOT involved in football operations".
This team is going nowhere with that disease in the building.
I'm one of those 'RB is not in football ops people' (he may be a situational advisor to TP.. but that isn't allot of quan).
Since the Bills org. structure clearly has RB acting as an non-football Executive (President), I'd say the onus is on the RB conspiracists to prove (instead of rant) RB has his hand in football ops.
-
OP's intent is right.
But agree with others who say current rules nullify the turnover--and that this call was blown by the officials.
This is the worst year of officiating in my memory, dating back to the 1980s.
How can officiating be fixed?
-
or this report is BS.
Unless they have taken cues from the Blue Jays in Toronto and are going to give Whaley a revolving open ended contract like their manager has where if he isn't fired before January he had an additional year added to his deal (so he is never in the final year of his deal)
I like that contract idea. Though, I'd make the decision date the end of Jan for obvious reasons.
They could put in automatic pay adjustments like:
- finishing worse than 10-6, same pay next year
- finishing better than 10-6, you get 3% raise
- each playoff win in a season, you get 3% bonus (and a first round bye = win)

A federal agency that makes profits? You really are retarded.
DC Tom is fairly close in his scoffing here.
But there are Federal Agencies that sustain their operations mostly on user fees....that's not exactly profits, but it is sustainment off cash flow.
If I remember correctly, The Patent Office and the FDA are examples of agencies that run largely off user fees. I remember this because when I lived in DC, those employees worked through the government shutdown, because they ran off user fees.
But as DC T is probably thinking, the vast majority of Federal operations are financed by congress, using make-believe money and funds fleeced from our pocket books.

i read on this very board that it is in fact Rex's fault. True story!
Don't forget Russ Brandon, the board says he's been in football ops as if it were a game of Stratego.
...and Joe F calls out Donnie Henderson. That keg cost us the playoffs.

No, not technically, though it is a common misconception: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourbon_whiskey
Even the places on the Bourbon Trail explain the definition:
"The Federal Standards of Identity for Distilled Spirits (27 C.F.R. 5) state that bourbon made for U.S. consumption must be:
- Produced in the United States
- Made from a grain mixture that is at least 51% corn
- Aged in new, charred oak barrels
- Distilled to no more than 160 (U.S.) proof (80% alcohol by volume)
- Entered into the barrel for aging at no more than 125 proof (62.5% alcohol by volume)
- Bottled (like other whiskeys) at 80 proof or more (40% alcohol by volume)"
Anyway, I think Mularkey is a severely underwhelming choice for Tennessee, which is good for the Bills but bad for football fans in general. I think Mariota is legit and they have a pretty solid D. Improve the O-line a bit, add a couple of skill position weapons, and assuming Mariota progresses, they could be a very solid team for years to come.
Out of all of our candidates last year, I wanted Rex first, and Hue Jackson second. He's done a very nice job with Cincy's offense, and going 8-8 in one year as the Raiders' head coach is practically a Super Bowl appearance. He's certainly a much more appealing candidate than Meathead on paper.
OMG classic! Who can't love a good CFR reference?
OK.. there's about 3 of us. But it's still (pun) funny as sh-T.

Don't worry gator the IRS Gestapo will be sharpening their proverbial pencils right now.
Edit-
How would you compare these guys to say, occupy wall street or black lives matters?
There is a very significant difference between them.
Actually, I agree with your sentiment.
But I will say, these guys probably file 1040EZ forms.. not much to audit there.

The fact is that the Bills are in a much better position with ownership AND coaching than many, many NFL teams.
...
Imagine being a Titans fan right now.
Yep. Thank you for saying about the Bills ownership situation. 3 or 4 teams are trying to relocate to LA, and TP is keeping the Bills in town, because TP is a passionate homer. We missed the playoffs, that sucks, but there are other fan bases worried about losing their team.
Also.. imagine being a Cleve fan and tolerating the non-stop coaching carousel to the bottom of the toilet. Part of me think Cleveland's moves are to tank--not for a draft pick, but for a low roster cost, because they'll make money off the TV contract, even if they are 0-16. The owner is a hard core "businessman" after all.

If the Bills ended 11-5 and were playoff bound, the BN would be busy ball-washing the coaches and management and no one would be writing about 1 year ultimatums
I love the word epiphany, especially on Jan 6 (which IS epiphany! today is epiphany!) but you know it's true.
I tried to see how this read on my irony meter, but it seems you broke it.
Well played... I didn't even notice that. Have an extra drink on my Pay Pal.. if drinking is your thing.

Dudes.. this is crappy media. Forget about Pegula to Rex/Whaley ultimatums, this shizzle is the real F up http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/14511191/ryan-zimmerman-ryan-howard-file-defamation-suits-vs-al-jazeera
AJ is going to be hurt hard here.

"Sex is like pizza. When it's good, its REALLY GOOD! But when it's bad, still pretty good."
Not a sports quote, but I've seen that attributed to Joe Torre.
I wish we had a "like" button here.

I'm sorry you actually wasted the time to type this.
Cmon eball .. you know it's true.
If we were playing Pittsburg next weekend, Vic Carruci could have posted Obama's birth certificate from Kenya.. and no one would notice.
-
Interesting.
Two thoughts come to mind...
1. the stack of road games is an opportunity for the Bills to actually get good at them, because they'll be second nature
2. so many road games in one chunk.. must mean the Bills have a large chunk of home games
-
I just had an epiphany (contrary to popular perception, you can say epiphany without your pinky out)
The stench of the Bills 15 years of futility causes many to attack even the media.
If the Bills ended 11-5 or so and were playoff bound, the BN brain fart would get almost zero coverage on this board. Admit it.. you know it's true.

... A regression to the mean may have occurred regardless of who the D-Coordinator would have been...
You said a "regression to the mean" in the appropriate context ... well done!
A well researched, analyzed and articulated post.
..and I agree with your premise: we expected too much, and another Rex year is appropriate.
Whaley signs multi-year extension with Bills

I can't tell if this a sarcastic Q.
Whaley is not tied to Rex... so that isn't making him sweat.
Whaley just got a new contract... so that isn't making him sweat.
And it's 18 degrees out with gusts up to 33 mph... so that isn't making him sweat.
