When did you get out?
1987.
Loved Berkeley CA, THEN. The place went down hill fast.
-
There's a huge difference between elocution and articulation.
You be right.
..and dis thread of insignificance be proof of another long off season.
-
Isn't this the same ownership that didn't like the personalities of Nolan, Singletary and Harbaugh?
So...you hire Chip Kelly?
Well yes... you are correct.
I did time on the West Coast, and learned the West Coast has different metrics.
East coast = what have you done this year. West coast = what have you done anytime (ganja no matter).
-
You can "analyze" this all you want but there are inherent problems in the data and methodology. Continuity is not just about who is coaching the team. I think the matter is best summarized as:
1. Continuity for continuity's sake does not guarantee success.
2. A lack of continuity pretty much guarantees a lack of success.
Good point on No. 1. Example ... continuity with Kaye Stephenson/Hank Bullough/Mularkey would have led to perennial losers.
Grass hopper... as an owner, how to distinguish the diff between Stephenson/Bullough/Mullarkey and Belichick.

Kind of amusing that Bills fans, of all people, are faulting the Niners hire. Last I looked, and based on record, Kelly is a much much better hire that our very own P. T. Ryan.
Sure, Kelly is a boring guy, a coach who demands much of his players and gets rid of those who don't fit his quirky philosophy, and is also a coach who is followed closely by other coaches and GMs.
Remind you of any other coaches? Like Belichick? Who also failed in his first head coaching job.
I know this, if I could only hire one or the other chubby Irishman to run my team, it wouldn't be P. T.
RR has one season.
CK had several (3?).
False equivalence.
-
Classic chicken vs. egg scenario. A lot of the coaches I mentioned actually peaked in year 2 and then couldn't sustain what little they had built up. With Rex, if he can build, the team will finally make the playoffs.
Agree.
Your analysis was good tease. But the Bills were the sample population. It would be cooler expanded to all NFL teams.
But I'm not that motivated. We need some dude or dudette grad student to statistically study this.
-
Actually it's because he can't make a fist.
Epic! Now I've snorted beer out my nose twice today.
-
Any way we can pull some strings and get Charles Manson paroled so he can coach? I like his intensity. He's a go-getter.
I just snorted beer out my nose LOL
-
Let the conspiracy theorists begin their thoughts.
Tomsula was such a horrible hire by the 49ers it was an interim hire. Kelly depletes the Eagles talent pool left and right. gets himself fired, so he can go back out west and be where he wants to be.
Well done. That conspiracy is creative, it has feet. You should refine your portfolio, and go to places like this http://www.coasttocoastam.com/
-
Chip's offense design is more suited for college, not the NFL.
Maybe time will prove me wrong on this. But I think this hire is another mis-step by SF.
-
Why does a dog lick his balls?
Because he can.
-
My prime example: New England.
15 years for Belichick.
Yeah, the blind squirrel got a Tom Brady nut. But still, an impressive record.
Update/edit: Now I've gone off thinking about this (never a good thing). Does continuity breed success? Or does success breed continuity?
te he .. he said breed.

The John Boehner of coaches...when didn't this guy cry?
The three conservatives in WNY, me and two others I don't know, find this very amusing.
-
I remember Dick Vermeil crying the day the Rams cut him, saying he had the potential to be the best RB he'd ever coached.
HIs letters to his Nebraska and HS coaches from prison were so sad. Seemed like he'd finally figured it out, but way too late. Our prison system is horrible.
Agree. But shall we make this bigger picture... it isn't the prisons that suck, but the mental health system?
In all events, it's philosophical discussion of whether prison is for punishment or rehabilitation. Here, I'd rather argue whether Rex should have hired his bro.
-
It's all about mental health.
I did a Google. On ESPN I saw LP's last letter to his former coach. Very logical and in character with what many of us would say.
At one moment he has documented murder actions, then another moment he comes across soundly. I hope the big brains at mental health can fix this.

But Tebow threw an
8018 yard pass that went for 80 yards against the steelers in a playoff game for a winning TD!Does sarcasm on sarcasm equal a negative times negative which is a positive???
I'm so confused...
What another off season brings, with or without playoffs.

He's going to roll up in a stretch white limo wearing all white track suit with gold chains and designer sunglasses and once the driver opens his door, white doves will all fly out.
He will grab his gold cane and strut to the Titans front office
CBF
Will that be a Hummer based limo, or a sedan based limo?
Just askin.. because as Bills fans stand on the sidelines now.. pointless queries seem to be the rage,
Me.. I like sedan based limo. I mean really... if you're driving into a city event, why not have a smooth suspension.
-
Who dat?
Sorry. Bill Belichick. Obviously, the Evil Genious needs to be added to Invision Power Board's spell check.
Along with a gif of his current GF.
-
Would you settle for a new assistant coach with a mane like a pony?
Or a mane like a unicorn?
A fat unicorn in this case.
-
Will this be 1 or 2?
1. The Bills hiring of Kaye Stephenson
2. The Pats hiring of Beleickek
We fans can bloviate all we want, but only time will tell.
..ooops dissociative moment... WTF am I posting about Cleve in a Bills board?
-
No, EJ is a better backup.
Tebow is interesting. He's a very fine person. He's got character thru the roof.
But he's not backup material. If he were, he'd be on some roster somewhere now.
All that being said: I wouldn't mind him being brought into training as the third arm, to keep three fields running.
yes. Roman could design a great O for him to succeed in
I remember you.
Your post had a goatse.cx link
Bad girl.

Business Finance.
He was a retail stock broker on Wall Street before applying for an internship with the Steelers
CBF
Then Whaley is smart.
College finance courses are difficult.

Your instinct is correct, IMO.
LA is not a good NFL football city. Many people in LA were not raised there following a team.. they're transplants from other parts of the country (or Mexico, Guuatemala), and they remain loyal to their childhood football team.

The vote may be tomorrow. I did some reading and I listened to KFI AM (via iheart radio). Here's what I picked up:
WHICH TEAM
- most believe consensus is building for the Rams and Chargers to move
- Oakland would be the odd man out
- All three teams want to relocate for 2016 season, decision needed soon to begin selling tickets.
LEAGUE POLITICS
- the LA move was formally proposed last week by Cowboys owner Jerry Jones
- Goodell/NFL covet a presence bring professional football back to the country's second-largest market
- NFL claims market research supports a two team LA
- tremendous sensitivity among owners; they don't like giving a "no" to Oakland
- Oakland consolation prize in the works?
- to soothe Oakland's feelings, they may give Oakland permission to move next year or later
- while "leaks" suggest consensus is near; one owner said the deals aren't anywhere near done
- vote will likely be by secret ballot; to avoid straining future relationships
- but first, the secret ballot vote has to be approved by a vote
- 3/4 of owners must approve a franchise relocation
NEAR TERM STADIUM
- not clear yet
- the coliseum can hold one team; but what about the other?
- Rose Bowl appears uninterested in hosting
- Angel Stadium and Dodger stadium are also considered
- League officials are not concerned about near term stadium
FUTURE STADIUM
- slated for 2019 season
- competing sites:
- Inglewood
- Carson
- Chargers favor Carson
- Carson is being pushed by Disney Corp.
- if Carson is select; Disney may get a minority share in a team
- any stadium built will be a two team facility
- cost exceeding 2 billion; privately financed
- would be the largest stadium in the league, 300 acres
- one owner described future stadium as wonderous "NFL Disney Land"
MY TAKE
- the machine that makes rose colored glasses is working overtime
- I'm not convinced LA is a very good NFL city,
- history has proven this
- the prospective fan-base there doesn't seem very excited
- I do believe the Rams and Chargers will move
- the move will be an ugly process
- the temporary stadiums will suck
Above all, I thank God TP and KP purchased the Bills and we aren't part of this mess.

Seriously. You're right, they be dropping..
Sometimes I wonder if people near the end of life have the ability to gut it out through the holidays... then give in after January.
Similarly, I think David Bowie was hanging in there to release his album. Released Friday.. passed Sunday.
RIP Ted.
