  1. SHHHHHH....don't you know the vocal minority here does not like logic . It is known the silent majority of people here at TBD actually: (1) Are extremely impressed with yesterdays win. (2) Support DB as qb, not because of anything other than he is the Bills QB. (3) Think the few consistent posters against DB are doing it just for ***** and giggles. There is no way you cannot be impressed with DB this season or with yesterdays game. (4) Think that the Bills coaches and administrators are relatively smart and DO NOT need our collective KzooMike, though well meaning advice. (5)Visit here to listen to the small (literally and figuratively) posters whom claim to know all and then watch as their two worst nightmares come to fruition: W winning the presidency and the Bills winning with DB, yet we do not post and rub it in because after all, the majority of us have a life and cannot spend hour after hour touching ourselves at the computer terminal like some people probably do all the time with their "flutie-esque" logic. But hey, you expressed what about 95% of us here believe, yet we do not need to validate our selves by posting it ad naseum. Well done.
  2. Uh, should someone mention to the flamer who started the thread that transmissions "go out" due to reasons other than self-destruction? While I appreciate the attempt at a funny analogy it would be better if it were accurate. Case in point, the number one reason transmissions fail is because something else leaked into it; further, the leak is usually caused by this outside agent. So are you trying to say that the OL is really the cause of DB's bad play? If so, well done in your analogy. If not, you should read more. By the way, post of the day should go to Dan Gross - the one early in this thread. Well done.
  3. Again, a lot of good advice from the above. While I cannot thank everyone enough I can thank you all collectively. Thank you!!! The following were great and most appreciated: (1)The offer to PM if needed (2)Frame questions to avoid pat answers and get to their real skill set (3) Hiring personalities versus skills; how to get the whole package or a more complete employee (4) Candor at all times - highlight challenges of the position up front without overselling. (5) How to conduct the interview (serve water, include a few key senior people) . I have always thought reference letters were loaded or inaccurate so I am glad others concur. Comfort level increasing - Pucker factor remaining the same. I am still internally debating the "driving while interviewing" thing. That one is intriguing yet probably not with in my skill set. Not sure if I could pull that off - I would not be savvy enough to look in control. Maybe another time though, I like the concept of it.
  4. I cannot thank all of the above posters enough. Your responses were helpful, possible, and filled with insight. Thanks. It is still overwhelming, but at least I feel knowledgeable and overwhelmed instead of dumb and overwhelmed.
  5. Thanks VABills, mead 107 and #89 all very helpful. My hiring binder is developing. I especially like the continual consultation with HR and hiring the "senior staff" first and getting their input. Thanks and keep it coming TBD'ers.
  6. Hi all- Basically I need advice on hiring people. For quick background: (1) I recently was promoted to "Manager" in a brand new division of our company. I will only report to one person and that is my boss / owner of the company. It is not like there will be three layers to the top. (2) She has given me full control of the hiring process for my team, however, I have absolutely NEVER hired people on the scale I am being afforded the opportunity to with this new job. Yes I have hired a research assistant here and there or even an adminstrative assistant or two, but the scope of this hiring is new to me. (3) I have ten weeks to assemble a staff of about 30-35 people. Again, my unit does NOT need to be up and running in 10 weeks, I just need to have my team hired by then. (4) I am not "inheriting" anyone as this is a completely new division. I like the fact people will not be asked to interview for their own job. However, if I muck this up and hire a poor staff I literally cannot blame past personnel. It will be my kahuna's on the line. Anyway, that is why I am asking those who are mangers the following: (I) When you were in the hiring mode were there things you asked candidates, and looking back, it was not a good indicator of anything? (II) Were there things you did not ask that you wish you did? (III) What advice would you give me on the process from interviewing to reading reference statements to whatever. (IV) Literally any and all advice is welcome as long as it is genuine. By the way, I will be moving out of state with this so the whole moving the family, finding a house, school system, blah blah blah will probably make the 10 weeks feel like 2.5. Oh and it starts the first of next month. Thanks in advance. Mark
  7. With all due respect, I am pretty sure I know the time and the play the announcer said that and if you look at the film, Drew is being folded in half by the defender right when the reciever was starting to get open. There exists absolutely no QB who would have made that play. In fact, he had under 2 seconds of free time, the reciever was not even in full stride yet. Again, I agree DB does not make things happen when under pressure but at least be fair. You could point to a few other instances, unfortunately your example is not one of them.
  8. "It's only a choke job if you are a favorite retard. Perhaps you would know that if you lived in a state where the average IQ was great than 50." I realize you didn't mean this literally, yet, you should edit your own words as you sound really dumb using the phrase "IQ great than 50" when you really meant "IQ greater than 50". Remember, those in glass houses should not throw rocks.
  9. I mean, recent history indicates that the NFL season usually does not end up as it starts out. So why does there exist so much negativity about the Bills season so far? And why are some "fans/journalists" making so many absolute statements about this player and that GM and blah, blah, blah about the Bills so early in the year? Yea, I know I know they are 0-2, but it actually could be worse (like not having been "in" either game). But really, it is only 0-2 and it is still September. When was the last time a team made the playoffs in September? I am no historian but I vividly recall being mislead about every season with teams that start out "hot" and basically crap out when it counts or visa versa. I am thinking about: (a) The 2003 Patriots (start 0-2 and then.....) (B) The 2003 Chiefs start, what 8-0, and do not even show up in the playoffs © The 2003 Vikings start strong and miss the playoffs (d) Did not the Jets in the late 80's or early 90's start strong and miss the playoffs and then start weak and make the playoffs (e) the 2002 Bears Again, this is surely open for debate. But I have not visited here lately and I am finding this board is like a TV soap opera. You can not watch it for an entire year and really not miss a thing. The same posters, the same "logic", the same absolutes and generalities, the same "I told you so", chest thumping, etc. But hey, no one is making me visit here right? (just to acknowledge any other sarcastic poster who thinks their clever enough to state "If you do not like blah blah blah blah blah......)
  10. Not being a gear head and the fact I have not owned either of these, I can recall the makes just not the years or models; they were: (a) Jaguar convertible- smooth and truly "lived" at highway speeds. (B) Baracuda (this was back in early 80's in high school and I do not know anymore than the fact it got over 130 mph and I about stevestojan myself). It was loud like a Harley and had the hood mounted air intake and lots of chrome.
  11. Absolutely agree. I was at that Colts game and I am hoping that ST performance was an anomaly. The ST looked overmatched, disorganized, and weak. By the way, was there any truth to the claim that we only had 10 people on the field during the blocked punt?
  12. Keeping Puccillo was surprising, yet, cutting Sobieski was not. He was thrown around by opposing DL every game. He literally got pancaked at least twice during pre-season games that I saw and it would not surprise me that after looking at film closely the coaches saw "red flags" about his play - more than any of us would imagine or admit. He did not appear to be real solid. Again, not that Puccillo was but maybe it was the lesser of two evils.
  13. Yes, I just got done mowing. Regarding tonights game, we want to go to the childrens museum in the late afternoon and then out to dinner - I say that because if you want to meet somewhere prior to the game for the ticket exchange you can factor that in and see what is convenient for you. I will be inside for a while so yes I am here. BTW, have you tried the wienerschnitzel at the Rathskeller? For a "combined meat" it was pretty good.
  14. Another shining example of my comuter savvy is that I did not even know I was logged off - suffice it to say the above guest post was mine- Anxiously awaiting -
  15. sorry all but I gotta bump this again
  16. Bump and I can PM you my cell phone number if needed
  17. One other thing, I do not have e-mail access from where I am at now - I can only use TBD - I say that because I do not know how PM's work - unless everything is within this TBD portal - Hope this works out - thanks again
  18. Yes!!!! Sorry for the delay - but my Fridays are my busiest work day. If they are still available - I want the tickets. I will be checking this through tonight so count me in if they are still available. Thanks Dave!!
