I heard we offered Oliver for Jerry straight up. Payton responded with, "ion want to talk."

If the 49ers had a glaring hole... clearly it was on the d-line...

Maybe we'll actually design RB screens this year.
The thing is, both Hines and Cook can both run routes like WRs. Seems to me there is so much room to get creative with two guys like this in the backfield. Not just with screens.

I opened this thread expecting a Twice Zone episode...I was not disappointed.
I kid. The idea seems fun, especially if we were talking about Henry and OBJ from 3 years ago. But I don't think they are currently these guys anymore. Plus I don't want to pay 10 M for a single running back. That's as much as I'm willing to pay for an entire backfield (3 backs).

Davis has not shown he is a #2, but if you deal him (I would take a 2nd round pick), who do you replace him with? WR is a current need, and that would open another hole.
You draft Marvin Mims, and Jonathan Mingo. I love both guys and they both bring something different at the WR position.

He hasn't. He has literally been one of the best in the league.
I agree with you that he's been one of the best in the league lately (13 seconds aside). I'm not a McDermott hater. As I said, he had issues in the past with game management. He has improved, from year to year, into one of the better game day coaches.
What I'm saying, is that I'm concerned he will regress if he has to focus on defensive play-calling. I don't see how that concern would be be controversial. I'm not trying to give a hot take or be argumentative.

Well done. We have nothing left to teach you.

I don't see how this is a surprise. I don't believe it is an indictment on Tremaine. He can simply get more on the open market than what we can prudentially alot for his position. Poyer is great, but he's old with significant wear and tear. Cheaper replacements and more resources devoted to oline and offensive weapons is the right strategy. I'm hoping they follow through, whilst anticipating a pretty good chance they go D in the first . . . again.
I like what you said here. And I'm glad the Bills gave Poyer a little bonus this year as a classy way of saying thank you (and maybe avoiding an unnecessary distraction). He really gave us his all, but this is the business side of things.

I've been pretty big on keeping Edmunds - but I'd also be okay if we used that money elsewhere. They can probably get another effective LB for half the price; not as impactful as Edmunds, but we don't necessarily need that if we shore up other areas.
I agree completely. I want to keep Tremaine, but would it be better to have him, or sign both Okereke and Nate Davis for the same price.

What game management decisions do you make while playing defense?
He already wastes TO on defense so maybe that might actually get better if he is calling the plays.
He still needs to manage the game when the offense is on the field, but if he's calling defense, he also needs to be managing in-game defensive scouting and adjustments.
The d coordinator isn't just taking a break when the offense is on the field. I think I remember McDermott hired an assistant for game management. He'll need to lean on this assistant much more. Some head coaches can do this, but I'm nervous about McDermott's ability to be one of those guys.

McDermott has struggled with game management decisions in the past. The idea of him calling the defense is intriguing, but I'd imagine that the game management decisions will regress as a result. That makes me nervous.

I'm surprised at how many of the bottom teams (financially) don't even have a real franchise QB. Terrible cap management/team building.
I think the dolphins blew their wad, last off-season, and expected a big year. They're in a tough spot moving forward.

Who would have thought Geno would end up being a viable vet QB . EJ must be jealous
I feel bad for EJ. Great young man. I'm not saying he would've been a good QB, but the coaches and front office did him dirty.

He did say the guy's a blocking stud. Maybe we can move him inside.

Aaron Rodgers with the Jets would scare me more.
Agree. Hill and Waddle are scary, but I think the Jets are a more complete team. Good defense with weapons on offense.

We need to bring in another RT, but we also have to be careful not to Wyatt Teller, Spencer Brown. Brown has the tools to be elite, but he needs competition and development.

Yes I understand he was asked about that but it annoys me the way Beane anyway has neglected to make an elite o line. And he has whiffed on basham, and Rousseau and Oliver haven't set the world alight.
I wasn't trying to be snarky. I understand your frustration. Hated the Basham pick.

With payroll so top heavy, this team needs an injection of young cheap talent. The pro and college scouting depts have their work cut out this offseason.

Why are you so adamant about Benford moving to safety? The kid showed a bit at corner so why waste THAT development and have him adjust to safety?
Hyde will be back, Hamlin is questionable but I suppose they could bring back Marlowe and Johnson.
Draft or sign an ACTUAL safety.
I understand what you're saying, and I agree that we should draft or sign another safety, but keep in mind that Hyde and Poyer were both corners before coming here.
Benford isn't very fast for a corner. Plus he has the size and ball skills to be a good safety. I'm intrigued to see what he can do back there. But like you said, we still need to draft/ sign one in case.

Why not both. He's just specifically addressing defense because he was asked about it here.

I like McDermott. I don't want to let him go anytime soon. He shows the willingness to self-critique and improve/adapt. That's a great trait for a coach to have.
But saying we have the 5th most playoff wins while having the 2nd most playoff appearances probably isn't a winning argument on this site.

I really like Gabe. But he doesn't have the fluidity or agility to run all routes. That's not something that can be coached. As such, he's a very limited #2, but a great 3/4.

Myth Busters: The Bills Overpay / Roster Too Many Special Teamers
in The Stadium Wall

Very informative. A lot of very good work went into this, though I'm not sure it's myth busting. Seems to show the Bills are near the top in special teams spending.
I'm not saying I disagree entirely with the Bills approach. The super bowl winners tend to be near top 5 in special teams each year.
