As someone who is soup-skeptical (although I don't hate it), I fully approve of KC's opinion on the matter!

Relatedly, here's a passage from a legal historian's book that I published a few years back:

'Despite his efforts to present himself as a man of the people, Nixon mistrusted the public and preferred secrecy to sunshine.  Aspiring to become royalty, he went so far as to outfit White House security as elaborately as Buckingham Palace guards.  Like LBJ, he saw the press, eastern elites and the “Georgetown crowd” as enemies. Like Johnson, too, he proved dogged in his persistence:  Nixon was someone who courted his future wife by driving her to dates with other men.  But in contrast to his predecessor, the new President was solitary.  So uncomfortable did the Republican become at state dinners that he pressed aides to cut them down to 58 minutes.  (As part of his effort, he banished the soup course on the theory that “men don’t really like soup.”)'

Said the guy who ate cottage cheese with ketchup for breakfast.

  2. We "transition" to winning the superbowl. I'm not that worried about the guys we lost. Other than Floyd and Morse, the guys we lost weren't big contributors to the winning streak from last season.

We didn't lose the Diggs, Poyer, Hyde, Tre, & Davis from 3 years ago. We have ascending young talent, Josh Allen, and we're getting Milano and Daquan back.

June 1st cuts are coming, and Brady will be running his own offense rather than calling plays from Dorsey's book.

Not mad. Not surprised. I like the guy really.

But, I can't be the only one who thinks his career thus far has been average at best.

He's been a better version of Epenesa, which BTW isn't exactly high praise.

I'd say he's an elite run defender. That's not the sexy part of DE play that get one a huge contract. But it's an important part of playing the position. That said, he does need to work on his pass rush.

  4. Jesus, he said we lost a lot of older players, so we're transitioning to a new group of younger guys. Some people just hear what they want to hear.

They're not giving up, or rebuilding. This team will compete for the Superbowl.

We lost a lot of guys, but of the losses, how many contributed to the winning streak in a meaningful way. Morse? Diggs, Poyer, White, Hyde, Davis didn't give much in the second half of last season.

Plus we're getting Milano and Daquan back. So much over-reaction here.

He played other "football" as well as rugby so that implies some pretty good footwork I'd think.

The boxing as well. Teaches you to use footwork and placement to generate leverage and power.

The size and athleticism are something Beane seems to like in tackles (Doyle and Spemcer Brown were both around 10 RAS).

LOL, and watch, a bunch of people will talk about him as if they watched him all season long.  Funny how many fans watched so much college football during and immediately after the drafts.

This goes both ways. People who haven't put in the work, think they know more about scouting than Beane and the pros. And criticize Beane's every pick, like their own "selection" was an all-pro in waiting.

Let me get the armchair GM hot take comment out of the way

“But I wanted a WR and I saw Rice once in a college football game and he made a nice play, so Beane is a moron for not drafting him. Now we don’t have a #1 WR because of this. Buffalo shouldn’t ever draft a defensive player or offensive lineman again. Beane is the worst GM EVER! Now we will NEVER win a super bowl”

But I saw this guy's name on at least 4 mock draft/scouting sites taking about his potential. So clearly Beane and the scouts, who have been studying these guys all year, have no idea what they're doing. 4 sites!

I think Tez is very much in play at 60 for them if they elect to go another position in the first.  Not saying they should or shouldn't be, just based on how much interest they have invested in him as most the other WR's they spent time with are either expected to be gone by 60 or go much later than 60.

Yeah, I can see why they like him. He has an intriguing skill set for his size. But I think he's there in the 4th. I'd have no problem with him being the second receiver in a double dip scenario.

  9. Wilson went #2 overall for a reason. I didn't like him as a prospect and was happy the Jets took him, but the guy has the tools. It will be interesting to see if Sean Payton can get something out of him...at least now that he's out of the division.

Blast from the past! What was the Josh Reed treatment? Honestly curious what you are hinting at with regards to Josh Reed. I recall, if memory is correct, Reed had a pretty good rookie season and then did practically nothing with the Bills or any other team after.

I think what a lot of folks are weary of is Beane expecting Shakir to keep up his level of play in an increased role only to have him fall short of expectations. Fans of course or weary due to Davis never taking that next step a lot of us thought he would.

That's exactly it. Josh Reed showed promise, and that Bills team thrust him into the WR1 position when he was, generously, a WR2 or most likely a WR3.

  11. There are few members on TSW who supported Diggs last season more than I. But even I can say that the doom and gloom over his trade is over-blown.

Diggs was never a dominant, "take over the game" type of receiver. He was a great route runner who, seemingly, gave up on his team the second half of the season and produced very little during that span.

He took himself out of the games, and was rarely double covered. He was good at what he did, but his production isn't impossible to reproduce with other players. And rookie receivers don't take 3 years to develop like they have in the past. They can make an impact right away.

And don't give me the echo chamber stuff about McD not playing rookies. He has since he got here. Especially first rounders.

Your anti-Allen dribble is quickly becoming tiring.  How many times are you going to post the same thought over and over and over?  Anyone want to start a poll on banning this troll?

To be fair, with his user name choice, he let us know what to expect from God contributions.
