  1. The word on Roman is that he is a very intelligent, innovative football mind. Now take a look at the talent we're accumulating on offense. It seems that Roman, who likes a running game, has a lot of options. Maybe he has something new in mind.

We have a great running back in McCoy. A WR who excels at the end-around and reverse (Harvin). Bubble screen master Watkins. And two quarterbacks who have wheels in EJ and Tyrod.

I'm not a brilliant football mind, but I can see potential here to keep a defense off balance.

  2. According to John Clayton, the Redskins will take Mariota if he falls to #5.

I know how many of you here wanted RGIII and/or Cousins. I'm guessing one of these two QBs might be available after the draft.

I'm not saying I'd want either of the two, but I'm intrigued by Cousins.

  3. This isn't an easy question in my opinion. Can you get similar production with less money? I think it is highly possible. Maybin could get 6 sacks playing on a line with Mario, Kyle, and Marcel. But it's not just about sacks.

Another thing to ponder, what you consider a high price for a player today, often turns out to be relatively inexpensive within 2 - 3 years. Such is the effect of the ever increasing salary cap.

  4. Fun to watch, but he seems like a gifted athlete who happens to play quarterback, like Tebow or Vick. Athleticism isn't really what you're looking for in a QB. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady won't win gifted athlete competitions, but they're two of the best quarterbacks in history. Marino, Montana, Aikman, Big Ben, etc.

I'm not saying he can't succeed. Some great quarterbacks are great athletes as well (Steve Young, Brett Favre, Russel Wilson*).

  5. This team went 9 - 7 with Kyle Orton at quarterback. Most of those losses were completely winnable (with competent QB play). That's why this season was so frustrating. With Jim Kelly at QB, I'd argue that we would've won against the Texans, Chiefs, Dolphins, Broncos and Raiders. That would've put us at 14 - 2 this year. I don't think it's stretch to say that.

Do we win the Superbowl? Can't say. But we'd be an elite team in my opinion.

  6. Dearest Robert Kraft,

I do sincerely apologize for putting you in this position of having to defend William Belichick and Thomas Brady. I realize there are innocent men rotting in prison or on death row, but this indecency is tragedy that your $billions$ likely cannot soothe.

I should have spared you from this fate by banning Mr. Belichick in 2007 when he was caught cheating. Instead I allowed that individual to continue his cheating ways. I led you on with the false hope that your organization could engage in any actions without repercussions. Afterall, your team cheated in the Superbowl and I destroyed the evidence. How could I have teased you so?

I truly hope there is some way that I can ease your suffering. Sexual acts are not off the table.

    Longing to be yours,

    Roger Goodell xoxo

ps: RK + RG = True love 4-ever

  7. In a sense, I was undecided about this whole ball deflating issue before reading this analysis. I wasn't 100% sure that Belichick was behind the whole thing. Now I believe that he was.

I wasn't sure how much the deflated balls affected the outcome of games (likely not the AFC championship game though fumbles can be huge). Now I'm fairly certain that game outcomes have been influenced.

  8. Like it or not, Tom Brady will go down as one of the top 5 greatest QBs in history. Belichick will likely be considered the greatest coach in history. And that is what chaps my @ss. They don't need to engage in these shady, petty, nonsense efforts to gain an advantage. They are tarnishing the game.

Let me preempt the, "Every team does it," comments. No. It's the Patriots who keep getting caught. And it's the Patriots, with their constant bending of rules, who lead to NFL rule changes every few years.

Did the deflated balls make a difference in the game? I doubt it. But that's not the point. The point is that they are shady and dishonest and ruining the spirit of the game.

  9. I can't understand why people are making an issue about Whaley discussing EJ during the interviews. What is Whaley supposed to do? Should he tell non-Bills employees, "Don't worry I'm going to trade for Foles in the off season," or, "Yeah, I'm going to get Cousins and Sanchez to compete." You can't tip your hand and tell non-Bills staff what the future plans of the team will be.

Like it or not, EJ is the current starting quarterback of this team. It only makes sense for Whaley to discuss our quarterback with prospective coaches. This allows for three things:

    1) Compare and contrast the strategies with those of Marrone.

    2) Guage creativity of the potential coach.

    3) Get ideas about what can be done with EJ in the future.

  10. To me it seemed, from the beginning, as though Marrone just wanted out of Buffalo.

Apparently Marrone was nervous about the football czar and whether the two would get along. Yet everyone knew that Polian was going to sign on to the job and ostensibly he and Marrone had a good relationship already. Doug, therefore, had nothing to worry about. He already knew the "czar."

Next it seems like he was demanding things that he knew he wouldn't get. This would give him an excuse to leave. Why would a new owner give Doug an extension when two years already remain...and to a man who had yet to reach the playoffs? Why would the owner give an extension to an offensive staff that was truly offensive?

The whole thing stinks of Marrone forcing his way out by manufacturing excuses.

  11. I know which body part opinions resemble, but here is mine anyway.

I had my suspicions about Orton's desire to play QB over the past 5 or 6 weeks. My suspicions were confirmed during the Oakland game. Down two scores late in the game Orton throws a terrible pass to end the drive. 30 seconds later the camera shows him on the sidelines joking and laughing with another player. I can't imagine Brady, Manning, Wilson, or Rodgers acting like that. Yes this is just a game, but the good QBs have a competitive fire.

I believe that EJ has a similar problem as well. EJ is a great kid with the character and hard working mentality that you want in a QB. But playing QB in the NFL seems like its just a job to him. He seems to lack a competitive fire. I'd be willing to bet that the good QBs would be pissed off losing a game of checkers. EJ is the kind of guy who would let you win if he felt like you were having a bad day.

I'm new here. This is my first post, but I'm looking forward to future discussions.
