True. They’re probably out trying to buy their TP now....

He read a script, much like Monday’s presser. They need to take his phone away too.

He sounded like he has the virus, strained breathing...

Sorry to hear this. Saw something from an Italian Dr today who sounded crushed--they watch people die because they don't have the capacity to provide care. It will be very difficult for those who've argued that it's all a dem or media scare to climb back down from that and realize just how serious the situation is. It took the stock market crash Monday to get Trump's attention. This is the first week that I've seen the administration take it to a level of seriousness that was needed. Hopefully the decisions that we are making here now, at the state level, will be enough to slow the spread so don't experience what is happening in Italy...

Because they quarantined a city of over 10 million people in order to prevent it from spreading at a geometric rate. Italy just shut down its country to try to do the same. Similar things will happen here in the hot zones--already in New Rochelle. The administration is finally taking it serious--it took the dramatic drop in the stock market to get his attention. Fortunately, once he made his brief comments at Monday's presser, he has been mostly muzzled on this....let the experts handle it. What makes this thing so serious is the contagion factor (the R-nought #) and the incubation period--you may not show symptoms for a week. The contagion factor is estimated at between 2-3, which means each person who gets it is infecting at least 2 more. That is a geometric series. As an example, If the transmission occurred every 24 hours, within 30 days 1 billion would be infected. The only way to reduce that factor is to stop interacting--China quarantined entire cities. Once you get the factor below 1, then you've got it under control for the most part--China has gotten to the point, so they no longer need the facilities they quickly built. If you don't reduce the contagion factor, then the number of people who will have a severe cases quickly inundates the health system, as is happening in Italy, which is when the # of deaths soars. The death rate is double digits for people over 70; and it is also much higher for those with cardiovascular issues, respiratory issues, diabetes, and hypertension. The flu occurs over the entire winter, so the healthcare system is able to handle what happens; this is happening so quickly, most systems aren't prepared to handle the case loads. At that point, the only way to slow it is to keep people quarantined for two weeks.

Two deaths in Florida, the state where we will most likely will see the largest impact since those over 60 are the most vulnerable.

Ha! Trump pimping for Bernie!

Then there is the deity himself, I only care about the numbers....higher numbers not good... My god, you TLS people will one day wonder what the hell you were given ....

It seems you guys are trying to create a panic about this...? At almost the 3 minute mark, idiocracy. Trump is right, he could shoot someone and not lose his supporters. It's a ***** religion.... https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2020/03/06/reality-check-trump-coronavirus-confusion-avlon-newday-vpx.cnn/video/playlists/this-week-in-politics/

The number of cases is low because we’ve tested so few, but as testing ramps up over the next few weeks the numbers will reflect the reality of the situation. As it accelerates, and more people get hospitalized, we’ll discover that we lack facilities and supplies. We’ll then see another $X billion thrown at it. They are being reactive not proactive.

You guys are very sensitive and defensive about trump. I've been saying he has minimized its impact on people because he is more concerned about the stock market and economy. While he closed borders with China, this administration was not aggressive about testing and isolation. They acted like that one action (closing borders) had it under control. As for my statement about the economy, it's related to the fact that the virus will impact the economy going forward and the good jobs report was last month--stock investors are forward-looking.
-
Yes, let me know how the market takes in what happened last month....
-
Back to the economy, Dow futures down another 3%. The crazier thing from my perspective is the 10-year T-Bond is now 0.72%. Glad I went 20% into bonds earlier this year...
-
Don't conflate my statements with your bias. Closing the "border" with China was right--you won't find any criticism from me. What I've been arguing is they should've also been preparing for it's inevitable appearance here. It's clear to me that Trump was more concerned about rattling markets and any impact on the economy, so they delayed and maybe even suppressed testing (yes, my conspiratorial mind). They could've gotten ahead of the curve on this, but didn't. I following what medical professionals are saying. You keep believing your right wing media that it's a hoax. It's amazing how gullible investors can be....
-
Really, no lack of response? Why are there so few tests? Oh, yeah, it's Obama's fault according to trump. You folks with TLS fail to criticize him and will defend him no matter what. You're no different than people who supported Obama no matter what... He did not take this seriously enough because he is more concerned about the stock market and economy. My prediction: this will be the reason he doesn't get re-elected. But to those with TLS, it's all a hoax and spreading panic.... Sorry, I can't help you find friends. Read the next sentence.

And this is how the right defends his piss-poor attempt to manage this crisis. I wish a dem was in the WH, then you guys wouldn't be blinded by how ignorant this guy is on the issue, and more important, you'd realize that he cares more about the market than protecting people. The number of cases has increased by 35% so far today, and as we test more, these numbers will accelerate. As the data show, if you're young, it's no big deal, but this thing will wipe out a big part of the older population. As a scientist friend said to me today, what will distinguish this from other viruses is that everyone will know someone who dies from it. As for Trump, his casual attitude is a big problem. He's trying to protect his stock market and economy. By saying it's no big deal to go to work with this, he's become part of the problem. Yes, I understand that he's saying people have it and will go to work and eventually get better. However, what he should be saying is exactly the opposite. Stay home, because you will infect more and more people, which will put more and more of the most vulnerable population at risk. For christ sakes, China quarantined an entire city to slow it down. This will be his downfall--he will not win a second term because of his (lack of) response to this. He can blame the dems, blame Obama; but Trump owns this now.

Related to this topic, I figured he was vacationing in Dwight Drane's bunker ....

Pelosi and Schumer suck as leaders. That said, the president should be the one who leads on this, but he acts more concerned about the impact it has on the stock market and economy... "It's not easy to lead," and it's tough to win in the NFL...
-
We haven't even started massively testing yet, so as soon as that happens, the number of cases will rise significantly. The market will not be able to stand the weight of that, no matter what the Fed does. We will most certainly see a much bigger fiscal response in the near future. But, yeah, listen to Trump and go to work even if your sick....
-
Much like bankers. I've often thought about posting the weekly cases of fraud and abuse in finance.....but I don't have that much time...

This is a good site for stats on the virus, including death rate by age here: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-age-sex-demographics/ Also, as I've been saying, this is an opportunity for Trump to lead, but he appears to be squandering based on his comments with Hannity last night. The worst thing for him is to lose trust on this....
