  1. Hope you get the chance. There's nothing like being there in person.
  2. Rapid Reaction - 10 Observations About Today's Game Seeing as how I got back so late from the game, I thought I'd change it up a bit by making all of this week's posts about experiencing the game live at the Ralph. I know there are many Bills fans that never or rarely get out to a game at the Ralph. Hopefully, this will help you get a bit of sense of what it is like at the coolest stadium in all of the universe. 10) The Buffalo Stampede Drum Corps are really good. They are usually on the Abbot Road side of the stadium pregame and then lead the crowd in a "Let's Go Buff-a-Lo" chant as warm-ups are ending. Hate to say it former Jills, but you're really not missed on game day. 9) Whenever Mario Williams gets a sack (far too few times this season) a video plays on the Jumbotron of #94 in Super Mario world. Every time he eats a mushroom he grows bigger and sheds blockers on the way to sacking the QB. Pretty cool, especially if you came of age when Nintendo ruled the gaming world. 8) Every time an opposing team takes a time-out or gets a false start penalty due to crowd noise the Jumbotron shows a "Crowd Assist" tally. The 12th man got their 14th of the season on the errant snap that led to the safety early in today's game. 7) Speaking of the safety, it was surprising when the Shout song didn't play after the Bills took a 2-0 lead today. The Shout song plays after all TDs and FGs. It says here it should play after safeties, too. 6) When the Bills kick-off the fans serenade the team with the "Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah." from Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes. The chant replaced the sound of stampeding Buffalo that used to signal that a kick-off was imminent. 5) I know there has been a lot of debate about the legitimacy of branches of the armed forces paying to be "honored" at NFL games, but I have to say that today's presentation before the Bills game was very moving and difficult to criticize. The unfurling of the full field-sized flag by local service men and women was visually-beautiful and emotionally-powerful. And the airplane fly-over was the cherry on top of a red, white and blue patriotic sundae. I salute all involved in making today's honoring of our local military personnel a reality. 4) My good buddy and rising country music superstar JB Aaron sang both the National Anthem today as well as a rousing version of "God Bless America" to salute the troops. As always, he nailed it and had the crowd cheering wildly. Nice job, JB. I'm so very proud of you and look forward to where your career takes you next. 3) The offense was announced individually this game. The response from the crowd was the same as it was the last time the offense got the honor. The cheers are pretty even for most players. They make a big jump up when Shady McCoy is announced. They jump even more when Sammy Watkins' name is called. When Tyrod Taylor is announced the cheers begin to crescendo and reach a point where, if the Ralph had a roof, it would be blown clear off. Tyrod is clearly the most beloved current Bill. 2) And Brian Moorman is one of the most beloved former Bills. The longtime Buffalo punter led the charge onto the field today and the cheers he received greatly eclipsed those given to other former Bills, like Lee Evans and Eric Moulds, that have recently led the charge. That tells me two things: 1) Bills fans are very loyal to former players and 2) Moorman was on some teams so horrible that the punter was easily identifiable as the team's best player. 1) My son and I started off the day taking in the ketchup and mustard ritual at Hammer's Lot. If you've never seen it with your own eyes, you have to put it on your bucket list. One of the coolest rituals in all of sports fandom. The big picture is that the Bills got themselves right back in the thick of the playoff picture with a big divisional win today and set up a huge showdown with the Jets and a certain bearded QB this Thursday night. Bills fans will be seeing a lot of red on the field for that game, here's hoping they're not seeing red after it ends.
  3. Yes, I bet they come in bunches now.
  4. He was brutal in the 3rd yesterday, with bad giveaways and 2 penalties that hampered the Sabres' comeback effort.
  5. Charges or no ( and I'm sure a big civil suit is forthcoming) excessive alcohol use has out Patrick Kane is some very ugly and compromising positions. I hope he gets the help he needs to put down the bottle for good.
  6. He's injured himself, yet again, in an alcohol-related mishap. http://nypost.com/2015/11/01/is-jimmy-fallons-partying-getting-out-of-hand/?_ga=1.133904526.1859649492.1441813156&utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=NYPFacebook&utm_medium=SocialFlow
  7. RIP Al
  8. Eichel with a late goal in the 1st puts the Sabres up 1-0 over Philadelphia.
  9. Can't believe these guys aren't in. Greatest rock lyrics ever: We take what we want We do anything that we wish We got no respect For animal birdy or fish The grass does not grow On the places where we stop and stand River Bottom Nightmare Band We know we're a mess But I does not like to be clean We don't brush our teeth 'Cause our toothache can help us stay mean We don't wish to learn But we hate what we don't understand River Bottom When you see us comin' You better startin' runnin' We're always startin' trouble And we're happiest when things are outta hand Rivers are for boilin' Parties are for spoilin' We either like to sit and pout Or else go out and terrorize our land River Bottom Nightmare Band We laugh in your face Or we practice our growl and our sneer We break up your place We are dangerous when we are near And when we are done with our song Who will get the biggest hand? Who? River Bottom Nightmare Band! River Bottom Nightmare Band

  14. Love Marmaduke. RIP, Brad.
  15. The only way the Bills lose this game is if the star QB turns the ball over 3 times leading to 3 TDs for the opposition. Cassel, I'm willing to wager, would not have done that.
  16. Let's hope today was his last chance to lose any more games for the Bills.
  17. Welcome back, Bill. Only good news today. Hope all is well and you're on the mend.
  18. Rapid Reaction - 10 Observations About Today's Game 10) This one is heavily on Doug Whaley. Trading Matt Cassel in favor of keeping EJ was the GM's decision and it was flat out the wrong one. EJ is a train wreck. What today's game needed was a competent game manager. A QB that wouldn't have turned the ball over on 3 straight possessions, leading to 20 points for the opposition, would have been enough to secure a win today. Cassel more than likely would have been that guy. Whaley is on the hot seat. He may have cost his team a playoff spot today by losing to one of the worst teams in the league. 9) Excessive celebration? Come on NFL. The Bills score to take the lead in a game where they'd already received last rites and they flag Graham for making the Hulk pose. Hell, I was watching the game alone in a hotel room and I got up and danced a jig. Let them play No Fun League. 8) The Bills deserve most of their penalties, but that pass interference call on Robey was total BS. He made absolutely no contact with the receiver. 7) You have to be happy for Marcus Easley. His TD catch was a thing of beauty. It's surprising that the Bills didn't use the once highly touted WR earlier in the game. 6) The defense came up huge on those 4th down stands. They kept the Bills in the game and played the way a Rex Ryan defense should. 5) Don't let the 4th quarter rally fool you. EJ lost this game for Buffalo and he should have finally proved to any remaining supporters that he is a bust that has no future as a starting NFL QB. 4) Shady did all he could do to keep the Bills in the game today. I don't fault him for the fumble, he took a great head-to-head hit. He's still one of the best backs in the NFL. 3) Four turnovers, three on fumble/pick machine EJ, were the story of the game today. The Bills almost won in spite of them, but would have won in a cake walk without them. 2) One bright spot during this recent skid is the play of Chris Gragg. If Tyrod can keep him involved after the bye the passing game might really take off. It's been a long time since the Bills have had two TE receiving threats to put on the field at one time. 1) The bye week couldn't come at a better time. This team needs Tyrod back and EJ as far from under center as is humanly possible. The playoffs are still possible, but losing to a sad sack team like the Jags makes the number 16 far closer to being linked with the phrase " and counting."
  19. It's sacrilegious to mention his name in a Sabres thread, but the hockey writers chose Bret Hull. http://www.thehockeynews.com/blog/top-10-american-players-of-all-time-from-brett-hull-to-jeremy-roenick/
  20. Obviously, you're the problem. Pay complete attention next game, will ya?
  21. Yes, Goodwin and Watkins are neck and neck for the "All Injured" team. Bills are going to have to sign a WR this week.
