Yes, all we need to know. You are blaming people for things that happened before they got here. Now to your other "points" 1.EJ. Nix decided to get a QB in a weak draft. Whaley setup the board. Are you saying he didn't setup the board correctly or that Nix wasn't really the GM? 2.Sammy Watkins. Without Sammy Watkins this team is hard to watch. 3.Your insight into coaching would force teams to go after a Dick Jauron after his 13-3 year with the Bears and not sign a losing coach like Belichick before he got Brady. 4. Your numbers on Clay are off. His cap hit this year and his average salary over contract length are two different things. Clay is certainly valuable and worth the approx 7.5 million he gets when you see what happened to the offense once he left the game. Both in the run and passing game. 5.You didn't bring up Whaley's most recent draft and off-season? Why not?!

Who Still Likes the Rex Hire

Can people stop crowning the Jets? They still have to play the Patriots and we already beat them. The Jets have a similar level of talent as the Bills. -
Tyrod Taylor and the Heroic Run to 7-9
jeffismagic replied to UBBullsfan's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
That's actually a good question. I would say that this a big unknown. But it sounds like you already believe there is little opportunity to get better. Aaron Rodgers sat for 3 years and started in the NFL at about the same age as Tyrod and got better. It can happen. I have no idea what will happen. -
So this is a great roster that played down to the Eagles yesterday? Seriously? I have no idea what you mean by accountability. That sounds like a football buzzword. This thread is more about fixing things. Please provide your insights on that so we can talk about moving forward. Your idea that the Pegulas are here to make a buck is so bizarre that it makes all your other "points" seem like a poorly thought out rant.

Problem is we don't have a time machine to make Mario and Kyle young again. Mario is no longer an elite pass-rusher. He is just a guy that we pay 20 million to. So you want to change the scheme away from Rex's strength to placate players that are past their prime? And yes, Kyle is old and often injured now.

What head coach was available that matched your requirements? Most NFL coaches have a system they run. The Jets coach hasn't adapted sh&^! He is coaching the same way he did in Arizona. Watch more Jets games. I am not that impressed. And no, Bowles is no better than Ryan. You are overreacting to the last few games. That's ok, that's what most fans do.

You're welcome to that opinion. I am not going to sell you on Rex. There were plenty of offers for him last year and many NFL GM's thought he was a good coach. Today is not a good day for any Rex booster. I am taking a wait and see approach. Was told he was awful on offense but he made a good hire with Greg Roman. Was told he was a great defensive mind but was left underwhelmed in many games.

We hired Rex to be Rex. Not to run someone else's defense. I am not happy either as I was hoping that Rex would be a better version of Pettine who used many of these players. Think our defense suffered from all of the above. Player decline, players leaving, players injured, poor scheme fit, change of defensive scheme, and luck. I really want to know what is going to be the plan moving forward because I am not yet sold on the defense and want some reassurance that things will get better.

I try not to just be average joe fan. Average joe fan just looks at the last 2-3 games and what have you done for me lately. Belichick is amazing with Brady, just a coach with communication issues when he was at Cleveland. This is a QB league. Get me a very good QB and your coach will probably look very good too.

I think you were trying to respond to me but messed up. Yes, let's talk about Mario Williams. If you think he is the same player as last year you are not watching the same football games. He has hit a wall. He is now just another guy. I don't care what the scheme is. When you are lined up one on one and can't beat below average players you are not the same player as last year. This has been all year, not just the recent foot injury issue. I think Mario is done and that is a big loss for a team investing 20 million a year on him.

I think Rex Ryan is like a lot of coaches. When he has the right players he can win which he has proven by taking two teams with Mark Sanchez to the AFC Championship game. Very disappointed that he couldn't get more out of the players but a lot happened this year. The Jets coach inherited a Rex Ryan base group of players that perfectly fit what he does on defense. Unfortunately, we have found out that changing schemes can take time and not every player excels. As I said before, the good news is that we took our lumps this year. You are all over the map. First, you bring up a random Patriot game from this year so that's why I brought up a random Patriot game from last year. Apples to apples. I already explained some of what I thought happened from last years D to this year. But in your universe players never get old or decline and players never get injured.

I think it is more complicated than defense was great and Rex broke it. Mario Williams is a different player this year. He aged overnight. You see him not winning one-on-one matchups. Matchups he won last year. So take away one pro-bowler on the D line. Kyle Williams hasn't been there most of the year. Take away another pro-bowler on the D line. Marcel Dareus-seems to be used as an inside run stuffer by necessity. I don't know if moving him around would help but he not the force he was last year. So out of the 3 pro-bowl linemen missing in various ways, only Dareus seems like a scheme change issue. The Jets stuff is well-known and discussed but your take doesn't account at all for major roster changes. I said before the year started that the Jets were the most improved team by a lot. I also think that Rex was hired because of his defense and he needs to run what he wants. He was brought here to create complex pressures on QB's and that doesn't happen as much out of a 4-3 wide nine that we ran last year. Even if Rex was adaptable (most coaches are not) and ran a 4-3 this year, age and decline in the DL would force the Bills to move to a 3-4 at some point anyway. Belichick struggled for many years when he changed his schemes in NE. People don't remember this because he had Brady to cover up some bad defenses.

Bad year to hire a coach. There will be a lot of changes by teams looking to hire a head coach and the Bills will not get good candidates if they fired Rex after one year. See Cleveland.

Biggest Offseason Need: Football Czar
jeffismagic replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Well, it's not going to happen. Rex is here for at least 2 more years unless Bills fall apart next year (defined as 6 or fewer wins). We have a General Manager that makes these decisions. If you don't like Whaley, you fire him and hire a GM. Please name me organizations that have this position. -
Biggest Offseason Need: Football Czar
jeffismagic replied to filthymcnasty08's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Football czar would have been a disaster. Look at what Parcells did to Miami. Now imagine Polian inserting his son who failed in Indy as GM. No thanks. -
Cleveland doesn't accept failure.....

You might be right about the Rex hire. But the Pegulas wanted the best coach and they decided on Rex. Now that he is here there is no point in going back. We can't go back in time. Rex is here. Do you want to run a 3-4 and Rex's D next year or a 4-3?
