Didn't know he was still in the league. This should be vet minimum - hopefully it is just a fill out the 90 move (they did need some receivers for OTAs etc) and he doesn't make the roster.
-
I don't agree with him, but I think there is a germ of a point there. I'm not advocating being weak against the run or building a weak defensive line. I am saying seeking to build a dominant run stopping defense to force teams to be "one dimensional" which 15 years ago was absolutely something teams sought to do is no longer a winning strategy against the best Quarterbacks. Exactly.

Yea I liked him as a slot coming out. He was my top "slot only" type that year. Doesn't make a ton of sense though given they have Taron and in our defense he couldn't play the kinda hybrid nicklel/SAM role that Taron plays. If he sits out on the market sure I could see it later as a depth move on a vet min type deal. Didn't Von only break on actual Day 1 as well? I was at Cheltenham for the racing when it broke so that means it was start of the league year rather than tampering period. It broke like 2 hours before the league year officially opened but it was a day 1 of the league year drop.

Greg Rousseau 5th year option, extension candidate?
GunnerBill replied to Matt_In_NH's topic in The Stadium Wall
5th year option, extend after next year is the most likely outcome. But not a slam dunk. -
I don't go as far as having a bad run defense is better.... but I do think there is a grain of truth. The days of "run and stop the run" are over. And if you build a really dominant run defense to the point teams barely even try against you then that is good against teams with average and bad Quarterbacks but it isn't great when you play the good Quarterbacks.... because you want those teams to get cute and waste downs rushing.

At the prices I like AJE better. If you swapped the contracts round I'd have been fine with a flier on YGM. AJ is a better rusher. YGM is probably a bit better rounded.

We needed bodies there but I like the 4 guys we have got. Hopefully this is very cheap.

Ah okay. So you disliked the spelling?

@HurlyBurly51 - you dislike his name?

Can't be mad. He was still an above average safety in 2023 and the Bills let him go. He was always gonna play somewhere.

NFL Admits Mistake, Bengals get 3rd Rnd Comp Pick
GunnerBill replied to boyst's topic in The Stadium Wall
They didnt. The 3rd was for Ryans. They got a 4th for Jimmy G. -
Think that was probably beyond us.
-
See I'd take AJE over YGM.

It is just he is the kind of guy who usually gets overpaid in free agency - especially in a thinnish group. Good deal for the Bills.

Bills 2024 Roster Breakdown (Current status)

I don't think he was most fine. I think he was mostly bad. Not liability awful, but he is a backup and played like it. -
Do The Bills Have Enough "Elite" Talent?
GunnerBill replied to BillsFan130's topic in The Stadium Wall
I take your point on the position element but I'd also say there is a considerably bigger gap between the best center and the 15th best than the best WR and the 15th best. That is just the nature of the game at high school and college level now. There are more uber talented players coming into the league at receiver than any other position. I think there is a legitimate argument that if you look over the last decade corner might be second in that list too. It is now an outside the numbers game as players progress up the pipleline. I think elite lineman are so valuable now because I think there are fewer. No doubt the Chiefs have elite coaching. -

Thuney is 100% elite. There is no question about that. Then I think McDuffie (as a slot) and Humphrey at center have a shout too. -
Bills 2024 Roster Breakdown (Current status)

Is linebacker a need? They have Milano coming back, Bernard who was excellent last year, a 3rd round pick they presumably still want to develop in Williams and Spector who was fine in spot duty as backup. I see it as the one position they don't have a need - beyond probably needing a 5th body for the backend of the roster. -
Mixon kinda sucks. He has averaged over 4.1 yards per carry ONCE in seven seasons. He is just a volume based accumulator.

And the match going Chelsea fans I know are where I was back in 2019.... going to games feeling it impossible to associate with any of the mercenaries on the pitch for them. That club is a mess at the moment.
