Smokescreen. He can't wait to draft Ghetto Chad. Ghetto Chad in the first round. It's a lock.

Ownership dined with Deshone Kizer after workout Saturday.
PolishDave replied to PIZ's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
In my opinion Kizer isn't as good of a Notre Dame qb as Brady Quinn was. And Quinn couldn't make it in the NFL and I knew Quinn wasn't going to make it in the NFL just by watching him play at ND. I am convinced Kizer is also not good enough and will only make it to a backup position in the NFL. Not accurate enough in my opinion. Not competitive enough either. And I am afraid Whaley will like him and want to draft him anyway. I really hope he doesn't. But if he does, I hope I am completely wrong about Kizer. -

Totally unprovoked momentary rage. Love it man. Thanks for the laugh! This rage has George Costanza written all over it. I can't take it Jerry! I'm losing it! http://youtu.be/lkQ9uyOow5g -

Oh...There are a million of these threads buried pages deep on here. During the season they were numerous, heated and equally as insane - mostly dominated by Ryan L Billz constantly crapping on Tyrod and any poster who ever said any nice thing about Tyrod. Honestly, this thread has bits of decent discussion in it here and there often interrupted by moments of insanity and tangential wanderings.

Yes. Many unknown variables this year - any one of which could throw a wrench in the season and cause a catastrophe. As a Bills fan I secretly fear that is going to happen - and kind of expect it - just wondering how it will happen. But because they haven't lost a game yet this year and haven't done so embarrassingly, I hold on to optimism trying to justify my decision to shell out thousands of dollars yet again for another 8 home games.

Bills doing homework on 2017 QBs
PolishDave replied to blacklabel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yeah. Personally I think the whole size thing is B.S. Does it help you see the field better if you are taller - of course. Does it help you to control the ball better if your hands are big - most definitely. Still can have really talented players who are a little undersized. Drew Brees Russ Wilson among many others in history. If Whaley truly does have a (very tall) qb size requirement - and I knew that to be factually true, I would think much less of him as a talent evaluator. Because that would prove that he thinks his intelligence supersedes the importance of a players playing ability. Which of course is bullcrap. -
Count me in on the group that thinks Tyrod is going to play better (probably and hopefully much better) this year than either of his two previous years here. If he doesn't, there won't be too many Bills fans unwilling to move on from him. I am optimistic - in fact more so than I have been in a while - at least as of right now. Get a good receiver and a new right tackle and my optimism will be higher yet. I think HE THINKS his best opportunity is Buffalo. And I think he is right. I have not analyzed every other opportunity he has though. So, perhaps my opinion would change if I knew that. My gut tells me he knows what he is doing and he is doing it because he wants to prove he is way better than many people have historically given him credit for. And I believe there is a really good chance he proves himself correct about that. Time will tell.
-
Tyrod probably thinks he is a much, much better NFL QB than you obviously think he is. So, if he compares himself to the other free agents and qb's coming out in the draft, I would bet HE THINKS Buffalo is his best opportunity to start and win. In that scenario it totally makes sense he would make "doing whatever he has to do to stay in Buffalo for this year" his top priority. And that meant taking a big pay cut. Makes total sense to me.

You are correct. When bringing in a free agent though, your choices are much more limited. Most of the time when you sign a free agent quarterback, you don't expect him to become a franchise qb. When you draft a qb you draft him with the intention of him hopefully becoming a franchise guy. So you are pickier about such things like size requirement. And you can afford to be pickier when drafting as there are more college QB's with unknown upside potential than there are free agent qb's with unknown upside potential. The upside potential on most free agent QB's has already been determined to be "less than franchise QB quality". (whether right or wrong) Free agent QB's are selected based on - best choice of a small pool of guys already mostly proven to be not good enough. Drafted QB's are selected based on - who do you think can become a franchise QB or an elite NFL qb -
I assumed the reason he took a pay cut was because he wants to be a starter in the NFL and the Bills situation at QB provides him the best opportunity to start and also the best opportunity to win given the many other variables that could come into place with moving to another team. I thought Tyrod had explained when he came to Buffalo that his entire career intention has been to become a starter so he could prove he was better than he has been given credit for. I think he has been saying that since his pro day disappointment back when he came out of college and people wanted him to switch to wide receiver. He has had a chip on his shoulder since then.

Bills doing homework on 2017 QBs
PolishDave replied to blacklabel's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
We shall see. If he takes a shorter guy early - then I guess size isn't a deciding factor for him. I don't know that it is for sure. Just thinking the rumor makes sense. My opinion on Whaley (could be totally wrong about this - it is an unfounded opinion) is that he is the type of GM who thinks that his opinions of players potential are more important than the players' playing history and proven track records. Just my sense of him. Can't explain why I think that of him. Just a gut feeling. Could be completely off base. -

No. There was a rumor that Whaley strongly favors tall quarterbacks. I offered the examples of those 3 quarterbacks as evidence that suggests the rumor could very well be true. I didn't invent that thought because of EJ and Cardale. The rumor was there first. Then I went and looked at who Whaley drafted and thought hmm.... maybe there is truth to that rumor. -

Just a rumor. At least I thought Whaley was rumored to heavily favoring tall quarterbacks. Could be wrong about that. Ben Roethelisberger = 6'5" EJ = 6'5" Cardale = 6'5" Tyrod = gift for Rex Ryan Maybe Kizer is actually too short too at only 6'4" Of the better QB's in the draft Kizer is the one who is closest to resembling those other QB's Whaley approved of. -

The only QB in this draft that fits Whaley's size requirements is Kizer. And Kizer isn't worth a first round draft. So, I am guessing they take him in the second if he is still there. If not, then maybe they take a flyer on a later round guy like Peterman - even thought they are not really confident he will become the starter and/or franchise material at some point. Wildcard factor = McDermott If McDermott tells Whaley go get me "this qb" because I am going to bet my coaching tenure here on him. Then I think Whaley goes and gets him whoever that is. Don't know if McDermott is that high on anybody. P.S. If the Bills end up taking Trubisky - how long is it before the bills fans turn him into a Polak by misspelling his last name to make him look Polish - Trubiski - like they did with Belichick - and made him Belicheck so he sounds Polish? -

Good point. Could be a factor. -
You guys who take that Polian statement as if it was 100% truthful and unbiased are surely fooling yourselves. That statement was nothing more than a Polian doing a favor for a friend. (something good friends often do for one another) - especially when they are in the perfect position to do so. If what Polian said was true, why in the world isn't Chad Kelly visiting or being called on by other teams? He's not. In fact it is totally plausible that he goes undrafted and doesn't even sign with a team after the draft. Can't believe that is so hard for Bills fans to come to grips with. You don't owe that kid anything. He got a rare shot at something that only a very small percentage of people get. He should have made the most of it.

PolishDave replied to KellyToughII's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
If the Bills were willing to trade down 2 spots, that would imply they don't want Trubisky because a lot of people expect the Browns to take him at 12. The only reason the Browns would make that trade is if they thought Buffalo was going to take Trubisky, Therefore that trade doesn't make sense unless the Bills know (with confidence) that the Browns don't want Trubisky. Otherwise the trade is a catch 22. -

Tough to argue with your logic. -
Why do I get the feeling that a lot of people are completely confused when looking at that chart. I applaud the OP for his effort. Chart could be made a lot clearer though. For example, why are there guys on the chart who have not been scouted or brought in for visits? And why are there where they are on the chart?

If I had to put numbers on it, I would say that out of all the Bills fans who want the Bills to draft Chad Kelly (probably 10% of them - my guess) honestly might have wanted him even if his last name wasn't Kelly. The other 90% of those people (or thereabouts) are biased because of his last name. Dude had a season ending injury that could have permanently affected his physical abilities. Then he failed his pro day basic passing test. Now he has surgery on his throwing hand. So nobody knows how that is going to affect his ability to pass (which wasn't stellar to begin with). Yet there are at least a couple handfuls of people who still want the Bills to waste one of their very limited and precious draft picks on the guy. The odds of this guy overcoming everything and becoming a franchise QB in the NFL are next to zero - like really really really close to zero. Between the physical stuff and the mental stuff - no friggin way. I don't care if Chad Kelly gets a shot in the NFL or not. I think that (if he does) he will make Ryan Fitzpatrick look like an accurate passer. So I hope if Kelly gets a shot, he gets his shot on a team the Bills can play 2x every year. Seeing him running for his life and getting his ass handed to him by the Bills would be pure enjoyment. It would make for even better entertainment when the story breaks after the game that Chad tried to fight the ball boy on the sideline because he thought the boy made a face at him.

Only in Buffalo would fans still want to draft a guy who: 1) wasn't anything special to begin with 2) can't control his inner rage 3) has had 2 football stopping injuries in the last year 4) flunked a basic passing test on his pro day 5) currently has an injured hand that required surgery (yeah his throwing hand) Insane I say. Totally friggin insane. Why do people still want to waste a draft pick on this guy? - Just because his last name is Kelly and he has an uncle who used to be good. You can't make this stuff up. Think about it. Dude can't even throw a football right now. Bills fans = draft him anyway. Gotta have him no matter what = Insane Absolutely nothing about this chump is NFL caliber. Nothing. Just my opinion.

Yes. There were plans to build the stadium in Lancaster. Somewhere near Pavement and Walden I think (thereabouts). But it ended up in OP.
