Yeah, the weenie couldn't even play with a fractured foot, what a baby. Funny, hardly missed a game in college, I guess he was tough then and suddenly not tough when he came here. Makes sense.
Just anothe Clemson player

I can't see us going into the season with Taylor, Yates and Jones... If Taylor goes down for any reason this team is doomed. If they've identified a QB in this draft as a "franchise" QB then I expect him to be the pick at 10 and I'm good with that, otherwise I'm guessing rounds 2-3 would be a solid backup with potential to be a #1 QB down the road, I'm also good with that.
Unless they try to fill their other positions and wait for next year to get a QB. There is already a good chance we are drafting around 10 next year.
New schemes in all phases .... Maybe, just maybe McD actually takes a slightly longer view and tries to do it right, not fast.
-
Only what Gilmore is getting. Totally worth it for a player of Watkins talent and probably part of the reason they would only pay so much for SG. They would get next to nothing in a trade scenario as everyone would know that he wouldn't return to the Bills and will just wait for FA next year.
There is a sucker born every minute. You sign him and trade him. Someone will want him!!!
-
If they got a good deal in the trade I would be all over this. Not sure he was even worth a single first rounder. I am sure he wasn't worth two. If we got second round value for him I would be happy, first round= ecstatic

I'm curious what y'all think...if the Bills do not give the 5th year to Sammy, should they attempt to trade him during the draft, in hopes to recoup some of their investment, to prevent him from walking after next year- leaving the Bills with nothing?
I ask because I always feel the Bills get screwed in these situations, making it seem like they don't plan for the future like the Pats do.
-
New injuries are random events. Going a year without injury does not make it more likely that he will go without injury the following year. Pre-existing injuries and chronic conditions are predictable but apart from those, its a roll of the dice.
Some players are not " tough" . Always having nagging injuries and letting people know they do. Sammy appears to be this type.

You probably won't have to worry about it because I think Watson, Trubisky and Mahomes will all be gone by #10. The media isn't giving the proper picture on what's going to happen. They've underrated this qb class. If one of those qbs are still there the Bills will draft him.
I think this is true unless McD is vehemently against it.

It has been a terrible trade up.
Watkins still has yet to put in a season better than Steve Johnson's three 1,000 yard seasons in a row, who all the fans turned on during the end of his run here.
Its bad all around. The Bills pay double for a WR in a stacked class that has been outperformed by the two WRs taken after him, he has been hurt - ribs, ankle, foot, we still have no QB that can get him the ball, we have game plans Watkins is used as a decoy the entire game (Patriots), or a safety rolls over the top and the Bills decide to take him out of gameplan (Chiefs).
Tyrod said last year that they can't force the ball to Watkins because they need to get other people the ball too. SMH Tyrod.
The Bills still don't use Watkins, and Watkins himself always has some issue with heath. He is always playing through something, or not 100%. McDermott just talked about running the ball and working hard, so nothing is going to change. Watkins being here does not lead to more winning, so its been a failure of a trade-up.
Hated this pick then, hate this pick now.
Keep him for one more year and then use him in a trade to move up for someone, especially a QB if we don't get one this year.

No Chaplain?
Now we can finally make a deal with the Devil!!!!
Brady suddenly sucks and we pick some guy in the sixth round who goes on to lead us to 8(!!!!) superbowls, McDermot becomes a better coach than hoody and 17 years from now we are still winning.
-
Not me. I just stand by my assertion that the decision that had been made pre Pittsburgh should have been stuck to. Rex should have gone, Cardale should have started the final 3 and they should have been in evaluation mode.
This, all day!!!

Uh.....Jimmy Clausen started 10 games in 2010 when he was drafted.
I remember it well because there was talk of the Bills taking him and Mel was talking him up big time and I was bummed at the time the Bills didn't pick him.
Then I watched the suckfest that was the Panthers 2-14 season and I was relieved we didn't take him.
Also, St.Pierre was called up OFF THE STREET to start ONE!!! game . Marijuana, it's not just for breakfast anymore🤔😵
or without
or without jake delhomme whom led them as far as cameron did... because...ya know, when we're making baseless ridiculous statements like below, well... just remember...
...that clausen and st pierre were never starters for that team, but this is totes mcgoats awesome...
...needless to say...
...defense was the reason they reached the championship game.
...newton sure helped, but went down faster than george michael in a london bathroom.
his point was completely unrelated to cam newton and the panthers, as both of those qb's were backups.
clausen eventually started, but not an entire season, for a few games in 2010.
aj feeley and others were prior and post delhomme.
If Defense is what gets teams there then why didn't we go with Schwartz's D.
Also, the Panther's D kept giving away lead after lead in the SB season. Leads that Cam and the O kept giving them.
Not sure why the hatred but Cam is better that any QB the Bills have had since Bledsoe first year with us.

Clauses and St. Pierre were BOTH starters for the Panthers.
St. Pierre is the perennial punchline to many jokes here on local sports talk radio.
Also, " Boy, I'm glad we have TT and not Cam!!! Love me some 7-9 !!!"

We already have Tyrod Taylor and he's a more effective running QB.
That's terrible value.
This!!!

You could put music behind this it would actually be semi inspiring
Chariots of fire?

You said something about " not the GOAT" . He was the Bills GOAT.
I do agree that the coaching at the time left something to be desired.
However, Jim's learning curve was about maturity. You don't go in first ballot HOF and not have great effort.
George, Cutler, these are examples of skill sets w/o effort.
-
That's not the argument. The original thread topic is "earning the right to win" and then the OP cited Jim Kelly. Then I pointed out, while being successful, Kelly was not an adherent of that philosophy.
Being the greatest Bills QB doesn't make him the paragon of achievement, or even a blueprint for the future. If anything Kelly is a moral of wasted potential.
You forget we lost a close AFC championship to the Bengals in '89. Then the infamous Harmon drop in Cleveland in '90. Then we rattled off four straight.
-
When you have a gift it's often harder to get it across to others.
When you have to effort it to be good enough you often have worked on all the ins and outs and understand if from a different perspective than the gifted ones.
-
The fact Kelly had to be "reigned in" proves my point.
Also bravo for turning "not the GOAT" into being a hater.
What Bills QB was better than Kelly?
-
What the heck has Bills fandom come to when " Kelly wasnt really that good."?Jim Kelly was a womanizing, boozing, self-congratulating punk from 86-96. He didn't become the man he is today till after his son was born. If we could transfer 2017 Jim Kelly into 1986 Jim Kelly I have no doubt we'd win a few championships.
The coaches not reigning him in in the first SB is why we lost.
We got out played in the next two decisively!!!
And Dallas was the better team in the final one.
I assume you Kelly haters are TT jock sniffers. Guess what? Kelly couldn't play Defense in any of those Superbowls. He couldn't stop the run in ANY of them. All he could do was put up points. Against Washington he got the tar beaten out of him behind a leaky, injured line.
Put the boosey, womanizing, egotistical Kelly on the Marrone / Orton team with that D and Marrone is still our coach and Swartz is still are D coordinator and the other playoff drought is broken!!!!
To the new posters... You idiots..... Welcome to TBD😜

New schemes in all three phases of the game and a rookie head coach, not buying it.
Shaq with a bad shoulder, Sammy with a bad wheel and Ragland coming off knee surgery?
I want all three to have breakout seasons but the proof is in the pudding and the wrapper is still on it.
-
A lot of good points but personally, at 4 I thought Williams was going to be the real deal. I remember thinking we were set for a decade.... ooof
I know I'm about to get crucified for this , though not a bust , I still HATE two firsts for Watkins.
-
Except all the people who insist that we have to lose to draft a QB as high as possible.
Which is an embarrassing number of people here.
I'm not embarrassed to feel last years was a waste and putting C.Jones in with a month to go would have been prudent.
I'm not embarrassed to admit to not liking the Orton pick because it assured us of mediocrity.
I'm embarrassed that every year a ridiculous amount of posters on here suggest " statistically we still have a chance" when it's all over but the shouting.

Good for EJ. Loved the guy not the skill set.
He did give me the comeback win over Carolina on my birthday four years ago so we're good.
