The Bills have done a great job drafting defensive players in 3rd and lower rounds - Milano, Bernard, Benford and Jackson have had huge value and it’s needed to maintain a top team when the cap has the weight of a QB contract on it.

This is the nice thing about having a program in place for so long.  We can draft and develop certain types that fit our schemes.  And this is one of the reasons I am against moving on from McD and blowing this all up.

I still don't know what their offensive identity is under McD in his 7 years, multiple 4 OC's, and all while featuring for the last 4 years one of the best QBs in the league.

HC talks about not wanting to run Josh, but in crunch time needing to win multiple games, they go right back to it.  We'll never know it, but I've often wondered if Pegula asks his HC why they put their 43M per QB into harms way so often.

Serious conversation needs to be had about whether McD is a good steward of what he's been given, particularly this QB.

The problem is Josh is not nearly as elite when you take away that dimension.  Especially some games.  Those games he's off- far too many IMO- seems like he needs a hit or two to get going.  I think that's why Dabol used to call so many designed runs early.

I am going to be the unpopular one here and say what I think is going on in the passing game.

    1.  Josh Allen is not getting great, if any pass protection on most of his drop backs, none.

Heard this statistic on Locked on Bills:

Josh Allen is dead last in the league last the last four games in completion % and passer rating when facing NO pressure.

There's always a million excuses for Josh when he struggles.  He simply needs to be better.  We have a top defense in place, a good oline, and a strong run game.  With elite QB play we should be in a much better position, the passing offense should be the least of our worries.

Yeah and the other thing.........this year........is that he's catching the ball like Boyd.    In 2021 Boyd did not drop a pass all regular season.   Shakir has had that distinction in 2023 so far(after an awful, drop plagued camp and preseason).

Boyd was a poor man's WR1 on a bad offense prior to Higgins and Chase arriving........I don't think Shakir is capable of that due to his physical limitations............but top WR1 and WR1B talent did allow the Bengals to use Boyd for more simple work in the slot like Shakir is getting now.

The big-boy football at WR is played outside........if your offense is good out there it opens up the middle.    Doesn't really work the same the other way around.   So that's where some of the people like @SWATeamwho try to tally the individual value of guys like Shakir, Kincaid, Knox and Cook lose perspective.

Yeah, it would be nice if we also had a top option on the outside…

The only game that matters is Pittsburg.  Pitts is the only team that can knock us out.  Jags game just changes our seed between 6th and 7th. No other team can get to 10 wins besides Houston or Colts and they play each other.  Jags too but it doesnt matter as only 2 of Jags/Colts/Hou will make it.  It only flip flops the division winner.

TLDR only the Pittsburg game matters to us as far as WC.

This is wrong.  We clinch with TEN win

Yea one of them breaking out into a star (and Cook is close IMO) would be huge. But they still need another weapon with some speed outside.

Agreed.  But the cupboard is nowhere near as bare as some would have you believe.

Seahawks are awful.  Unless Steelers lose to back up Ravens our game vs Fish is either #2 seed or out. (Assuming Bengals eventually lose).  Seems to add up that way on the playoff machine.

We could also get in in this scenario with TEN beating JAX

You sure? If KC and Seattle lose today (which both are on pace for) I imagine the odds with a loss plummet.

Those odds take into account Pitt likely losing to Bal next week and CIN to CLE.  Problem is those teams have nothing to play for.

If the games don't go our way today we are likely out with a loss next week, IMO

What the hell is wrong with Josh Allen today?

He shouldn't even be in the conversation of MVP playing like the first half he played today. There's something wrong with that boy you can see it in his face.

This appears to be Josh Allen.  Far too many WTF performances mixed in with excellence.   Today is another level of terrible though

Why did you happen to select that group of QBs? Also below Josh are Jackson, Mahomes, and Hurts. I assume you can see the pattern here?

Here's the top 10 in that stat:

    Tua

    Mac Jones

    Siemian

    Lawrence

    Burrow

    Zappe

    Ridder

    Carr

    Browning

    Mayfield

My takeaway is that it's a totally meaningless stat that tells you nothing about the quality of the QB or of the OL.

I was identifying guys included in that number that have not really played a ton this year.  When you say "13 guys below him" you would think that would be starting QB's, not just anyone that has played QB this year.

Agree on the stat not meaning much regarding the quality of the QB.  A lot of the current best QB's hold it.  My only point is that style puts additional pressure on the OL for having to sustain blocks.  While Josh does make the line better by getting out of trouble with his mobility, he also makes it tough on them at times by being among the league leaders for holding the ball.  That's it.

this is wrong as well. 13 QBs hold it longer.

LOL, and those 13 include Deshaun Watson, Tommy DeVito, Josh Dobbs, Jimmy Garoppolo and Zach Wilson...

Josh is actually quicker to throw this year than in the past.  But as much as he helps out the line with his mobility, he also forces the line to sustain blocks longer than most which can be challenging.
