  1. Guessing Hyde isn’t interested in the rigors of participating in a full offseason program. Whether he’s interested in the rigors of a full regular season plus playoffs is the real question. I doubt we will know until just before training camp starts in July. I’m 100% certain he will be a post 6/1 signing if he comes back at all.

I think Josh Allen excels in play action, so that would be a good thing.

This is true of most QBs, but not all. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think I remember hearing that Allen dislikes play action because he prefers to line up in shotgun and keep his eyes on the defense rather than line up under center and turn his back to the defense as play action requires.

Dorsey and Brady instead used RPOs out of shotgun to blend the run and pass games. But it might be something Allen has to get used to doing. If the Bills are going to run more, then he is probably going to line up under center more often. If that happens we will want to take advantage of using traditional play action.

Some of you aren’t understanding this…the players I listed for those teams are those who were their biggest contributors at the WR, TE, and RB positions.  Those groups as a whole are not demonstrably stronger than what the Bills have — in my opinion.

KC added Worthy.  Good for them.

I think the Bills have plenty to compete for a championship.

Not a single one of the four teams that made the conference championship games last season would trade their skill position group (minus QB) for ours. The big difference that immediately jumps out to me is that every one of those teams has at least one blue chip player in the mix. Not to say that one of our players couldn’t develop into one, but we don’t have one yet. Just look at Kelce on KC to see how much that matters.

The highlights from Cleveland’s old Muni bring back memories. Dual use facility with baseball so there was always a section of the field that had the infield dirt across it. I remember an outfielder getting traded away who said “I don’t have any idea where to stand here. In Cleveland I’d just stand on the 50.”

Staler and Waldorf are hilarious. Leave them be.

Obviously the biggest question with Claypool is how much will it cost to jettison him if he decides that he does not need to work anymore? His upside is great but he is a guy I want to be sure I can cut bait on easily if it goes poorly.

If Claypool was given anything more than vet min plus incentives I’ll be livid. Also I hope they keep Coleman the hell away from him.

Appreciate that number as I was looking for it.  That wouldve made him 12th highest paid (AAV) at the position.  Therein lies much of the problem.  You have to be top 10 at your position for the 5th year to be worth.  That seems to be for most positions with QB, Edge, and WR being the only spots you can really get much of a discount.  Combined with the hard cap number and it has lost a lot of its appeal.

That is fair. But the one thing to consider is the sudden, dramatic increase in pay for RBs. The 5th year option numbers are based on last season’s contracts. Retaining Harris would keep Warren in the role he has excelled at and that’s important. Still, it’s a bit rich and I don’t blame the Steelers for not picking it up, but a case can be made that it would be a reasonable value.

I checked OTC’s valuation of him and they have it at $6.64M, which supports that.

  7. 9 hours ago, NewEra said:

He’s their 2nd best RB imo.  Nowhere near worth the fifth year

Agree he’s their 2nd best RB. The only surprising thing is that the 5th year option would have only been $6.7M. I understand why a team wouldn’t want to pay that for their second best RB, but with the big increase in RB compensation this off-season it might’ve been worth doing. Especially since he is still their starter and their 3rd RB is Cordarrelle Patterson.

Considering the situation with the kids’ moms I can understand why there might be some animosity.

Yeah doesn't sound good.   Maybe the potential sale of 25% has something to do with liquidating part of that asset to distribute to soon to be disenfranchised heirs.

That makes a lot of sense.

#1WR is a HUGE need next year ? Maybe we should give  Colman a chance to put  on his Jersey before making that decision ?

Yeah. Huge. Even if you want to bank on Coleman hitting big and Shakir continuing to improve, we will still want to upgrade (or at least find a long term successor for) Samuel. As much as I like Coleman the person I’m not a fan of Coleman the player, so I personally wouldn’t bank on him hitting. But I get your point. Every projected need for next season is subject to change. This is not different. I genuinely hope he surprises me and kills it.

    Probably the TO’s.

I think if you polled every single defensive background coach in the NFL and asked the one thing that is the most important for the offensive to do, it would be not turn it over.

Not saying they are right or wrong, it’s just ingrained in their DNA. It’s why McKenzie and Cook were shown the bench everytime they let go of the football.

The reduction of turnovers did seem to be the biggest positive outcome of the move from Dorsey and his pass heavy offense to Brady and his more run heavy offense. That reduction definitely translated to more wins in the second half of last season. I think it was more a case of bad luck early in the season though. Last season under Dorsey Allen had more interceptions than turnover worthy throws and it seemed like we lost a higher than typical amount of fumbles. Overall, passing is more efficient than running in the NFL. That was mitigated somewhat by defenses using schemes and personnel geared toward stopping the pass. But judging by recent trends it looks like defenses have moved into more balanced approach. In any event, here's hoping that the Bills are flexible and use whatever approach works best.

When Beane said the team is "in transition" what does that look like for you in 2024-2025.

For me, it means four (4 things).

    1. Bills will be 10-7 and get a Wildcard

    2. Bills will offload Miller and Knox and will have more cap space heading into 25-26 season

    3. Bills will focus on finding a new punter, kicker, and a #1 DE and #1 WR with their top 3 2025-2026 draft picks.

    4. With Bills having more cap space and and younger platers, Bills will extend Allen by 3 years.

    5.

    Largely agree.

    1. 10-7 is my expectation as well. Likely a WC, but should compete for AFCE title.

    2. Miller is gone next offseason for sure. He will be cut with a post 6/1 designation. Knox has partial guarantees for his salary in 2025 so I think he stays, but that’s probably it for him.

    3. Draft and/or FA has to bring help to the team DE1 is job 1. WR is a huge need as well.

    4. Allen’s contract rework this offseason was to get him to next season. He’s going to get an extension and a raise next offseason.

Honest question? Do people really think this matters? Josh tossing the ball around a HS field for a couple hours one weekend this summer. I mean it can't hurt but seriously how much can it possibly matter.

You think in the KC game they said on the sideline remember that out pattern you threw me on the Lockport Lions field in June? Let's do that again!

I think it’s more about building chemistry by getting to know each other both on and off the field. It’s not the be-all-end-all, but it’s not unimportant.

You have a QB that's a Maserati. He's built for bombs away. But instead of building your offense for that, you build it for plodding, 10 yards at a time max, 10 minute drive offense. So I ask, what is the point?

What's the point of having a guy who's designed by nature to bomb the football deep and whose weakness is dink and dunk stuck in an offensive scheme that is built to do just that?

Why not offload him for someone who's better suited for that kind of thing if you refuse to play to his strengths? That's what I can't wrap my head around. It makes no sense.

It makes no sense to me not to lean into Allen’s talent. I’m all for getting him help in any form on the offense or team. But I do not understand why we’d take the ball out of his hands and lean into running to shorten the game. it feels like McDermott is protecting his defense at the expense of the offense and the team overall.

Some talking head somewhere said that Brady was basically trying to call the offense McD wanted for the last 8 weeks so he could get the job.

Well, McDermott is his boss. Why wouldn’t he call games like his boss wanted him to do? I would think they spoke about that before Brady took over - and throughout the season. Seems like he was on board enough to take the job.

  15. I’ve been thinking about how the offense will evolve. At a very basic level I’d expect to see a short yardage and RZ package with 12 personnel including Coleman. Longer yardage and longer field personnel we might see more 11 with WRs and TE determined by matchups. Obviously nothing earth shattering in that. Just thinking about when we’d see different players on the field.

This is why I'd be completely fine if we just signed someone like MVS this summer.

The Offense will funnel through Kincaid, Samuel, Shakir, Coleman and Cook but we could use a guy like MVS to make team's respect the deeper parts of the field.

I don’t know how much that will help because I don’t see an addition like MVS getting on the field much. Here’s where my heads at: If I am a DC and the Bills bring in 21 personnel with Coleman as a WR, then I’m only worried about one WR getting deep. I’m keeping the defense in a coverage that can be aggressive against the run, short to intermediate passing game and getting to the QB. If Coleman can excel at making contested catches downfield then that would change things, but that’s tough to do. Or maybe we just move back to more 11.

Now that we're moving onto a new era of bills and core players seeing some turnover, what was your fav moment of the last 4 years?

For me it was destroying NE in the playoffs and the Micah Hyde pick in the almost end zone - listen to the Patriots radio broadcast for that game of you ever find it if you want a laugh.

Maybe we didn't win a SB but demolishing them was fun!

Mine was watching Davis break a DBs ankles and catch the go ahead TD with 13 seconds left in the AFCC game against KC. I was elated and stunned. I said  “I can’t believe we did it! We’re going to the Super Bowl!” and hugged my daughter. I was a true believer in this team and had confidence they could win Buffalo a championship.
