  1. When Conservatives used to nominate and put judges on the court many of them turned much more liberal. Now with a steady stream of funding heading their way from Conservative mega donors, they are paying to keep the court Conservative., That's what is happening. Creating economic dependence
  2. Those regional banks that tanked the other day have already come back up
  3. Chips and Inflation Adjustment Act. Fortune magazine reported recently, “The Biden administration’s efforts to revive U.S. manufacturing appear to be succeeding, with some business sectors plowing in almost 20 times the investment in new U.S. manufacturing projects versus only a few years ago.” The Chips and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act have injected “over $400 billion into clean energy technology and semiconductor manufacturing in the form of government incentives and subsidies, as well as create thousands of new jobs.” On top of that, private industry has invested more than $200 billion, “almost double what it was in 2021 and nearly 20 times above 2019 levels.” The number of projects more than $1 billion went from four in 2019 to 31 now. The result: More than 100,000 clean tech jobs were created since the IRA and the Chips Act passed. Biden is transforming the economy. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/05/05/may-5-travel-newsletter/
  4. The Internal Revenue Service. Despite Republican howling, additional funds for the IRS mean the government collects more of what people owe and thereby reduces the amount we have to borrow or tax others. It also helps ordinary taxpayers. Former car czar Steven Rattner observed recently, “Since the passage of the IRA, the agency has hired more than 5,000 new customer service agents. Consequently, response rates to taxpayer increases have improved dramatically. During the last tax season, just 15% of customer calls were answered with live support; this year, the figure shot up to nearly 90%.” Moreover, “the Congressional Budget Office estimates that the additional funding will result in an extra $177 billion of tax collections between now and 2031, reducing the budget deficit over that period by roughly $100 billion.” That is a smart use of taxpayer money. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/05/05/may-5-travel-newsletter/

  6. At least eight of the 16 Georgia Republicans who convened in December 2020 to declare Donald Trump the winner of the presidential contest despite his loss in the state have accepted immunity deals from Atlanta-area prosecutors investigating alleged election interference, according to a lawyer for the electors. Prosecutors with the office of Fulton County District Attorney Fani T. Willis (D) told the eight that they will not be charged with crimes if they testify truthfully in her sprawling investigation into efforts by Trump, his campaign and his allies to overturn Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia, according to a brief filed Friday in Fulton County Superior Court by defense attorney Kimberly Bourroughs Debrow. https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2023/05/05/fulton-county-georgia-trump-investigation-electors-immunity/
