Another Hollywood remake. Red Dawn
buckeyemike replied to erynthered's topic in Off the Wall Archives
I figured most would think Red Dawn famous for being one of the last movie releases featuring war with the Russians. Either that, or being the first movie with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey both in it. -

Already a couple of times today, including a Spanish-language version. -
Another Hollywood remake. Red Dawn

What is Red Dawn most famous for? Not what you think...it was the first nationwide PG-13 rated release. I remember it was summer of 1984, either July or August, but I can't remember which. -
New Orleans has been mentioned as well as a possible LA candidate. I don't believe that is happening. Does anyone honestly believe that, post-Katrina and spending $180 million to refurbish the Superdome, that a team with excellent fan support is leaving its hometown of 40+ years? That would be a freaking public relations disaster for the NFL (for what it's worth, the Saints' lease is up after the 2010 season, and the team receives millions in subsidies from the state of Louisiana...at least $20 million per year). If Katrina never happened, though, the Saints would move unless a (say it with me) new stadium was built. But isn't the Superdome good enough for the NFL? The building has hosted six Super Bowls, more than any other stadium. More than even the Orange Bowl. I remember the Superdome was a world-class building from the late 70s at least into the 80s. One thing I'm really getting tired of with the NFL is this move toward the moneyed people, which has been going on for at least a decade, and probably longer. Once upon a time, venerable stadiums such as the Orange Bowl, Tulane Stadium, the L.A. Coliseum, and Cleveland Municipal Stadium were good enough for the NFL. Now, if the venue doesn't have enough club seats or lounges where the snobs can eat their baby argula salads, ignoring the game while checking their stock options on their I-Phones, forget about keeping your team, or having one in the first place. The NFL was built by regular people, the middle- and working-class fans. Today, it wants the Neiman Marcus and BMW crowd.

Brinkley does strike me as a bit on the bee-yotchy side, but come on...how much a month was Pete spending on internet porn??? Some huge number that I found so unbelieveable I've erased it from my mind. Um, I thought the whole point of marrying someone like Christie Brinkley was to avoid spending large amounts of money on porn sites and magazines. That young girl BTW looks kinda slutty to me. Wonder if she's got a tramp stamp?

You can make fun of my masculinity and alleged sexual orientation all you want, it's addictive. It's all ABBA for the next couple of weeks in honor of the release of the film version of "Mamma Mia!". Flame away if you like, but trust me...if you have Sirius, you'll probably be listening at some point.

Judge rules against Seneca Nation on Buffalo casino
buckeyemike replied to taterhill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Agree wholeheartedly with your last statement. I've only been in a casino once...it was on an Indian reservation outside of Green Bay, Wisconsin about 10 years ago. And considering it was one of those one-stop style gas and go type places with slot machines, you probably can't even call it a casino. I choose not to gamble, but if anyone else wants to, I'm not gonna be a hypermoralist and try to stop them. -

I know this is the NBA on CBS, but I was always partial to this theme song (circa 1975). -
Looks like a Blair Witch Project wannabe to me.

Judge rules against Seneca Nation on Buffalo casino
buckeyemike replied to taterhill's topic in Off the Wall Archives
The casino site is really more between Columbus and Cincinnati. It's still a four-hour drive from Cleveland...why go there when Presque Isle and Mountaineer are two hours away? This will be the fourth time since 1990 that casino gambling has been in front of Ohio voters...and it's been voted down handily the previous three times. My guess is that Ohio will eventually get casinos, as soon as the state figures out how the "right" people can make boatloads of money off it. It may take until 2020 or so, but I believe it is coming. -
Link to video from Channel 3 in Cleveland. I sit on the board of a religious organization called Lighthouse, Inc. This organization provides a mobile church on wheels to inner city Cleveland, also providing a meal to people who come by. It will serve up to 1500 people every Saturday from April to December, with holiday dinners around Christmas. Most of the people who come to the "Heaven Train" bus are children. This report features the next step for Lighthouse...helping to repair homes in the inner city, with donated materials and volunteer work. My prayer is that people are helped and they see the work of the Lord in these projects.

I went to a Cleveland Gladiators game earlier this season. Lots of fun. The co-owner, Bernie Kosar, was signing autographs on the field before the game. They beat Philly in the game I went to...and they play the Bon Jovis on Saturday. Winner to the Arena Bowl. Wouldn't it be ironic if the Gladiators went to the Arena Bowl in their first season, while the Browns still have never made it to the Super Bowl?

Happy Independence Day everyone. And remember, for the 12th consecutive year, the giant flying saucers haven't come to destroy our cities, so I think we should all be thankful for that. Will Smith's pretty busy these days, anyway.

We saw WALL-E last night at the local drive-in. A fireworks display was finishing up nearby at the start of the movie, so it made for a very nice, festive atmosphere. I'll put this simply, WALL-E is the best movie I've seen since Napoleon Dynamite. I give it an A+. SPOILER ALERT: This may have been a bit of a "message" movie, esp. with the people of the 29th century fat and going around on hovering recliners, but it's a tremendously well-written film, and completely original to boot. The robot WALL-E had more heart and emotion than many non-animated actors out there (are you listening, Brad Pitt?). Pixar certainly keeps raising the bar on their films, with one blip last year in Ratatouille. Films like these is what movie-making is all about, even if they are (mostly) animated. And the short before the film had me laughing in my car for six solid minutes as well.

Crap. There are two Starbucks within 1000 yards of my office. A stand alone and one inside a Target. Wonder if one of them will close? Probably not. They both opened within the last year.

Terrific movie. We just passed the 25th anniversary of its release. Plus, it was on AMC the other night. I had to stop and watch for a few minutes.

I'm partial to "Cars". My two-year old nephew has memorized entire sections of that movie and can recite the story book from memory. That's how much he loves the film. He knows the name of every character as well, even the secondary ones. I didn't have the heart to tell him that Fillmore (George Carlin) is gone. Remember, he's two.

That was me. She had her baby Emma the final two years of Friends.

Happy one-day belated birthday William from the Big Apple!

Would love to see Wall-E...the only problem I have is that Pixar stole the robot's appearance from "Short Circuit". As long as he doesn't say "Number 5, Alive!" I'm OK with it, though.

Many of you don't know that Lauren Graham has never been married and has no children in real life. Any takers?

The classic "Turkeys Away" episode...7:00 P.M. Eastern tonight. Again, that is all. Carry on.

She's four months older than I am...also a member of the 1969 club. Incidentally, the two others I listed are both older than I am. They would be robbing the cradle with me.
