  1. That would be a concern if the Bills were the "answer to a team in [L.A.]." However, for obvious reasons, the Rams, Raiders, and Chargers are all much better options...if the Bills move, there's plenty reason to doubt it would be to L.A.

There is probably a good chance another team will commit to LA before the Bills are available. Even though the NFL is rumored to want two teams in LA, I can't imagine the second team would happen for some time after the first. I really think Toronto is the biggest concern. They seem to have an ownership structure in place now, plenty of funding and Bon Jovi is already on good terms with the most influential owners like Jones and Kraft.
  2. Exactly. Just need some famous people with Buffalo ties and politicians with Buffalo ties to start pushing it. Also, would be kind of embarrassing if NYS had NO NFL team. You would think whoever is Governor, and the two Senators would be pushing hard for this.

Not sure too many people would notice or care if NYS doesn't have a team. As far as the league is concerned, regarding exposure, ratings...., the Giants and the Jets accomplish what they need even though the stadium is in NJ. They are huge market teams. Buffalo, regardless of being in NYS is small potatoes when it comes to marketing.

    NFL will not allow this.

  3. that is the one thing that will not go away. on the surface having the L A situation settled has always been looked upon as a positive by myself, and the rest of us. however, there is always the danger of which ever team(S) go to L A, those cities will now be a player for the bills.. shame wilson will not s

    ettle the ownership situation..

How can Wilson settle the ownership situation? It is settled now, he is the owner.

  4. Why can't the Bills have this kind of foresight to see when a player truly helps a team be better go out & keep the player or players that do just that ?

Why can't they start their negotiations on contract extensions a year or more before the players contract is up in order to keep the good players around ? Such as in the Byrd, Levetrie, Greer, Poz, & others situations .

There will be more of these type of defections in the near future for the Bills too as long as they are not aggressive in trying to keep the guys we have .

The article below shows what happens to a team when it sees a guy that helps & they keep him dispute a injury , & this guy could have still been in a Bills uni & we wouldn't have had the trouble with our O line as we did last season , BUT NOOOOO !!

Now he is staying where the grass is definitely greener & helping this team to stay a play off contender ...

And i just bet we could all think of others such as this that could have been kept to help the cause ...

I'm sure there are good reasons why they don't. If that's truly the case.

Obviously, they just signed Aaron Williams to an extension. You need two to tango and some players like Levitre, Byrd... might want to test free agency to see if they can get more money. Also, many of these players probably wouldn't mind playing somewhere other than Buffalo.

I think a lot of fans think that this is a way to save money by signing them early but I can't imagine agents would still not try to maximize the players value. Look what Williams got, hardly a bargain for the Bills.

he had already returned from his injury and finished the season healthy. So not really a risk on San Diego's part.
  5. Who cares. Jim Kelly didn't either. This team needs to not care about players' feelings or wishes and take care of business by tagging him.

Cross the next bridge when it comes.

He cares, and that's pretty much all that matters. Can't force him to sign a contract with us. Jim Kelly didn't play for us his first 2 years of pro ball, only played when he had no other options.
  6. For those of you who don't think a safety is worth $10 million a year...

When will a safety be worth that? Remember that the salary cap goes up every year, so individual position value goes up with it. Even for those of you who think $10 million is way too much for a safety...well, eventually, one day, it won't be, assuming the salary cap continues to rise as it has. When will that day be for you?

Is it a percent thing? It seems like most of you are happy to pay Byrd $8.5 million per year. Last years salary cap was $123 million. That means you'd be happy spending 6.9% of the cap on him. But the cap is just about to go up by 5% to about $130 million. A $10 million per year contract will now be 7.6% of the cap. Does that really get everyone's panties in a bunch?

Salaries and values go up every year. What sounds ridiculous one year will soon be the norm. Many would argue the norm has already changed.

Good points, I don't understand how fans value players, let alone wonder why we even care what the team spend. Get and keep top players and let the team worry about the money. We as fans don't have near enough knowledge of what the plans of the team are in regards to personnel and cap strategy long term. Just sit back and hope they keep the right players, like Byrd.

And please can people stop with the silly trade proposals. I wonder if a fan ever actually predicted a trade that really happened.

  7. Well, up and coming players ?

Didnt we get into this problem when not getting Jairus locked up earlier ?

Thats the risky part of the game of course.

With Byrd we lost and are just trying to break even . we should have done a long term deal with him from the first window opened.

    IMHO good sir

I dont think Willaims offers the same skill set Byrd does. But Aaron soon need a contract too. if he plays very well again next season have the Bills sat on their hands ? i mean that his market price goes up. Again. This is kinda what got Bills in this bind isn't it ? planning for the future with player contracts ?

I agree right now Williams doesn't offer the same skill set as Byrd. But I think many fans aren't looking at the whole picture when they want the Bills to sign a player before his contract is up in order to lock him in at a better price, why would, in this case, Williams sign a deal now knowing he has a chance for a much larger payday in a year or 2? We may be able to sign him early , but don't expect a discount.
  8. He's the coach ! Of course he wants him on the f n team !! The guy makes plays .

There wasn't the question, in my mind IF they wanted him .

Here is my new concern . and allow me to preface. because i forget to do that sometimes .

I am a big Aaron Williams fan based almost solely on his play last year. He seemed to find good footing in the safety position while Byrd was physically deterred with those toe nail issues . Then he moved back to CB ! And he looked serviceable or better. Then he returned to safety.

Some think he was trending Pro Bowl . I think he deserved some strong votes.

My question is this , if we sign Byrd for a long term contract............

Can we afford Aaron too when his comes up.

Two potentially elite (potentially I said !) safeties on the Bills ? and getting paid like them. Probably not going to happen.

    Thoughts ?

If they can't sign Byrd, I wouldn't imaging they would sign Williams to a deal similar to what Byrd is seeking, should Williams rise to that level of play.

They need to sign Byrd, deal with Williams if and when, a lot of things will change by then.

  9. I think that Chandler is average at best. He makes huge mistakes and is extremely limited athletically. His production can easily be replaced assuming you do not have guys like Lee Smith trying to do the job. I would not bother resigning Chandler as Moeaki is a better version IMO. I would draft a TE in the 1st 3-4 rounds or sign Pitta and go with Pitta/draft pick, Moeaki, Gragg and a blocking TE that doesn't commit a million penalties (sorry again Lee Smith).

I'm a fan of Chandler, I don't know of many 'huge' mistakes and not sure what you mean by limited athletically - seems pretty damn athletic to me. How can his production be easily replaced by Moeaki, based on what? Chandler definitely had a few drops last year, but also make a large contribution by leading the team in receptions. You have to have athletic ability to contribute like that.
  10. The current ESPN magazine has a great write up about James Harris, our former qb. It's a great article about the struggles of an African American qb back in the early 70's. Anyone here remember your impressions of his playing days?

I didn't know he was the first African American player to start a season at qb in the history of pro football.

I remember him as being not very good, but looking back is was more likely that the team stunk back then. I recall the strong arm, but even though he had brisco, moses and I think JD Hill, still not a good team overall. Had some success after he left.

  11. I don't think anyone really expected him to be here long term, so in that aspect it might be easier to deal with him leaving. To look at the positive side, there are a great many highly qualified coaches out there and we just need to find the right fit. We have good players and we should have better ones next year. Good organizations can handle situations like this, it's a big test for the Bills.

  12. Honestly in my professional life, if I interviewed for a job and kept getting strung along with more and more interviews and there were media reports of others walking away from the job...I would withdraw from consideration...something just doesn't feel right about that situation. I know many people say there are only 32 of them and you have to take them when they come up. I wouldn't rush to go into a joke of a franchise; get canned and never have a shot again. They are so late to hire anyone, there are no viable assistants out there now. That is not a good situation...get a job a week or so after black Monday, you are in a better position...

I'm not sure multiple interviews for a HC position is 'getting strung along' Cleveland may be run by idiots, I don't know, but having more than one interview would seem reasonable. Also, they have interest in Seattles DC so they had to wait to interview him. We are just anxious as Bills fans not to lose him. I'm guessing he wouldn't have much trouble putting a staff together. He would certainly pull some coaches from Buffalo. There are plenty of coaches with experience out there.

  13. This is a freaking nightmare. I would like about 5 minutes to chat with Pettine, I am curious what is in his head right now. What is so great in Cleveland?

    What's so great in Cleveland?

It has one of only 32 NFL head coaching positions in his profession.

It has the only current opening.

It is very interested in him

He wants badly to be a head coach.

It's better than being a DC in Buffalo

    Just for starters

  14. I know being an HC is a big deal, but if I was Pettine I would walk away. You aren't their first choice and might be the only one who will take it. Not to mention they fired their HC after one season. That is a damaged team you stay away from. If I were him I'd wait till next to year and see what happens...

I don't know how you can honestly expect him to turn down a HC job. You don't often have a chance to get hired to coach in a great situation, but what's worse DC for a crappy Buffalo franchise or HC for a crappy Cleveland franchise. Cleveland has a very strong defense and an all world WR. They have 2 first round picks this year and with the right QB, could be a solid team with strong coaching- and I'm sure Pettine thinks he's the coach to help turn it around. It's just wishful thinking on Buffalo's part to not want him to take the job, but hardly realistic.

  15. If Alonzo is getting blocked by linemen, then the D line isn't doing their job neutralizing them so Alonzo can fill the gaps.

there are 5 offensive linemen plus TE, we have a 3 man front, 4 if you count Mario Williams. Linebackers need to either shed the block of the lineman or avoid it. That's how you play the game. And he was blocked by FB's a few times as well. I know it's hard for Bills fans to admit, but he has played poorly as of late.
  16. I'm sure the pounding influenced his decision. Check out Earl Campbell now a days. He can barely walk.

And did I miss the part where Spiller gained 100 yards today?

I'm not criticizing Spiller, just I think you are wrong with your reasoning on Browns early retirement. Not trying to start an argument.

  17. True story. Some fans talk out of both sides of their mouth.

The Bills set a franchise record (remember Oj & Thurman?) for rushing this season. Let's criticize the running backs. What is wrong with us?

    Thanks. That was point. ;)

He retired to do other things, such as bad acting. Nothing to do with health.
