The stadium is probably a number of years away - say 4-5 minimum - that would make him 'approaching' 80. My point was , his main concern was keeping the team here while things are still in doubt. He can plan a successor accordingly with no concern of relocation.Well, he's 72, not exactly on the doorstep of 80. Plenty of time to left to secure the Bills' future.

i guess I just find the whole idea of fans/pundits suggesting trades to be pretty funny. I can honestly say I have never heard anyone predict a trade(not one that has been rumored about)accurately. It's usually fans trying to trade our junk for their quality- like we can fool them into thinking that crappy player is really a good one.Sure, why not, assuming you can get a pick, even a 7th, for him. Most recent trades seem to be for consideration that is almost obsessively in line with the draft value chart, which is why you see teams switch in-round picks, or send low rounders back and forth. For example, let's assume that we finish 6-10 again and end up with the 10th pick in each of the 2nd-7th rounds. Our 2nd (480), 3rd (220), 4th (82), 5th (37), 5th from TB (let's say 35), 6th (23.4) and 7th (10.6) are worth 888 combined points. If we found a willing partner, that could get us to 19th overall. If we picked up another 7th for TJ (or anybody), the extra 12-15 points could get us up to 18th overall. An improbable scenario? Yes. Stupid? Probably. But's that's how TJ helps get us a 1st. And almost mid-first, at that. Let's not pretend that a large portion of this board isn't pissed that we don't have a 1st rounder next year. Consider this post just some salve for them.
I actually hope TJ gets it together. I think the more talented WRs and RBs you can work into the lineup, the better. A fresh B. Brown or TJ stepping into the 4th quarter of hard fought game might be pretty tough for a worn out defense to stop. But, at the end of the day, I'm also a realist, and think that TJ might be the odd man out, as he is perhaps the only WR that wasn't brought in by this regime, or given kudos by them.

Graham might help us trade into the first round next year? Really?I don't disagree that by August they might be able to pick him up for nothing, but, if they bring him in now, they would at least have camp to get him acclimated to their offense. Given that he doesn't have the traditional amount of experience at the position, I would suspect that they would rather not bring him in cold, ten days before week one. Also, given Gordon's track record and prospects of pulling his head out of his butt, he, too, might be joining Maybin before too long.
I guess the point would simply be a hedge against cutting him and receiving nothing. And, given, our lack of a 1st rounder next year, you never know when an additional 5 or 20 draft value points might come in handy. It couldn't hurt to have more ammo for trading up into the1st round. IIRC, NE recently traded their late-1st rounder for a 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th. Barring an amazing turnaround, I think TJ's best-case scenario is being the 5th WR. I'm not sure that alone gets him a roster spot, unless he has developed into a ST stud (To be honest, maybe he already is, but I have no recollection of noticing him on STs).

That makes a lot of sense. I was thinking along the same lines. Golisano helps keep the Bills in Buffalo short term, makes a smooth transition to the minority owner. I'm guessing he does not want to deal with a new stadium as he is approaching 80 years old.I don't post often... so I'll defer to those do. Judging by the leaks if it does seem like a potential owner with local ties will prevail. A lot good posts in the thread along with a healthy skepticism, which is fair. The thing that intrigues me is if Golisano becomes majority owner for a set period of time and brings in a minority partner with an agreement to buy the majority out (Golisano is no spring chicken) upon a certain time with all the wishes all of a new stadium and binding lease... I'm liking it. My two cents...

I am very happy they addressed the line like they did in the draft. It's hardly the most glamorous of picks, but I believe the most important. Now let's hope the picked the right players.

Lewis and Dixon are veteran backup QB's. So what is the problem. Lewis actually led the team to a couple victories last season. Can't really expect too much more. Most teams don't have good starting QB's, let alone backups.yes it can happen to any player. QB is the most important player. Should we not be prepped for an instance that can happen, to any player?
-
He also missed many tackles, too slow to make tackles and was burned often. He's older and slower than he used to be. We need better.Hmmmm...Starting only seven games. He registered 41 tackles and career-highs in passes defensed (six) and interceptions (four).
-
Because he wasn't that good last year and now a year older.
-
Sproles is 31 years old - not many left.Eagles gave a 5th rd pick for RB Sproles and we gave a 4th or 3rd for Brown ?
-
he may not be a third string back. He's capable of more. If Jackson fades this year, Brown is 2nd string.Wow. We traded a starting WR for a 3rd string back????
Whaley's making a lot of "bold" moves. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
-
Neither Spiller or Jackson are workhorses, they can't carry the load. If one of them goes down, we need a back who can be a number one type back. That is why this trade makes a lot of sense. Also, for the future because of the status of Spiller and Jackson.

You won't trade a 4 th round draft pick for a RB, but would you draft a RB with a fourth round pick?I agree that in the end, the downside is low. Just irks me as a matter of principle to give up anything for the RB position.
My personal belief is:
1) never waste a 1st round pick on a RB
2) never re-sign or sign a top-tier FA RB
3) never trade anything for a RB
There are exceptions, but generally it's pretty unwise to do any of the foregoing.
Possibly. Lynch was a bad trade, also one more mistake away from suspension. Blount was a guy on a one year deal, so that diminishes value. Sproles will be 31 this season, coming off a poor year.Just based on value, it seems like much more established RBs have gone for much less. Didn't we trade Lynch for a 5th? The Pats got legarrett Blount for a 7th rounder. The eagles got sproles for a 5th.
-
Moreno signed for over $3mm for this year, Blount about $4MM for 2 years, hardly peanuts. And maybe they wouldn't want to play here with Spiller and Jackson ahead of them. Why is it strange to trade a 3rd rounder for a RB, would you have a problem drafting a RB with a 3rd? In limited playing time, Brown has shown he can play in the NFL, that's more than anyone drafted today can say.Brown was no different than those guys when he was drafted in the 7th round. With RBs, it seems like it's pretty easy to find diamonds in the rough.
But even putting aside that, guys like Moreno and Blount were floating around in free agency for peanuts.
Seems strange to give up a potential 3rd rounder for a guy.

noAre we gonna get rid of all our pix next yr?.
-
would rather have a NFL player than 'guys off the street'I don't really know anything about brown, but this seems awfully high for any RB. You can get productive free agents and guys off the street for nothing.

I understand it's your opinion.I agree you are entitled to your opinion. I read a lot of these comments and wonder what many of them are based on. You obviously don't share the same viewpoint as the Bills do. They feel he can be a 3 down player according to Whaley, you don't. You think all the other teams would have passed on him one more time. I am just curious as to how you formed your opinion. I don't follow the draft like others do. I just wait to see who they pick and then wait to see them play. Then I judge the pick.Just my opinion bro. I'm not bashing the pick, but I am entitled to express my thoughts. Did you read my entire post? I guess that is my rationale if you need one.
-
what makes you think he would be there some 30 picks later in round 4?I don't know what to think about this pick. I feel like he would have been there in round 4 if they really wanted him. To those who are drawing Jamie Collins/Willis comparisons, I just don't see it. To me, he looks like a 2 down run stuffing ILB. I just don't see him being successful in coverage, he doesn't look like a sideline to sideline type player, and he certainly isn't a pass rusher. Best between the tackles. Seems kind of stiff and a little slow to react.
I remain optimistic, however, and he certainly adds much needed depth behind Spikes with his shaky knees. Go Bills!

exactly, which is why he is now on the outside.I wouldn't call Kiko a thumper.

I'm not saying they did things correctly with free agency, but do you think it's reasonable to sign Campbell, Miller, Vanek , Briere, Drury, Tallinder... as free agents and still have cap space to put a full team together?G & Q get a hold of this team you will never ever see a winner. On top of Drury and Briere, Brian Campbell the following year left. With those 3 players you could cup contend every year
-
Actually, it wasn't 4 consecutive first round picks, i would have been every other year and to assume they all would have been number 1 overall would have been quite a stretch. At the time, it wasn't a bad idea to sign vanek.Goilisano wasn't the worst owner but he didn't spend money freely either. It's hard to judge TG because of his "mini-me" Larry Quinn. Who knows what decisions were made by TG or LQ or both? The biggest fiasco of the TG/LQ Sabres era was losing both Chris Drury and Danny Briere, two players that were the heat and soul of a Sabres team that went to the Cup semifinals two years in a row.
Allegedly Drury was all set to sign a deal around $5M/yr when (allegedly) Quinn held off hoping to drive Drury's price down some more. I'm less clear on what went down with Briere.
Ironically Quinn & Regier missed out on a golden opportunity right after when Edmonton tried to sign Vanek away as an RFA. If the Sabres let him walk away they would have gotten the Oilers next four 1st round picks. I don't know if Vanek would have helped them but the next 4 drafts the Oilers picked at or near first.
But after the shock of losing Briere and Drury, the Sabres weren't about to risk a full on riot letting Vanek go too. In hindsight it would have been the right move.

why were they good when he bought them? Regier must have built a good team and Ruff coached them well. Who hired Regier? Quinn.Golisano bought them good. He didn't build them
-
This means nothing, everyone who posts here thinks they can run a team, a draft, free agency, coach in games.....Anytime I hear his name I remember his conversation with Rene Robert.
Robert: "What's your background, Larry?"
Quinn: "I'm a land developer."
Robert: "Do you think I could do your job?"
Quinn: "No, I don't think you could."
Robert: "Then what makes you believe you're a hockey man?"
-
let's look at the record when Quinn was around compared to when he wasn't. First go around with the team they reach the finals in 1999 after he brought in Ruff. Then he came back after the Regis episode and they were successful again. He leaves when Pegula arrives and now we stink... really bad. Not saying it's all on him, but there might be something there.Quinn is like the bad penny that keeps turning up
The Sabres told Drury they would match any offer he got. Drury said they would give the Sabres an opportunity to counter an offer. He did not give them that opportunity. This comes from Quinn. You can believe your source or him. This is not my assessment. Although I am accurate in that they were cup contenders and if we were not down 4 defensemen in game 7, there is a good chance we win the cup that year. They didn't re-sign Drury because Golisano refused to sign the contract Drury agreed to in December. They didn't intend to re-sign Briere until the 11th hour when it was clear Drury was moving on.
Believe what you want. Your assessment of their tenure is wholly inaccurate.
-
Whatever your feelings are, the facts are the were Cup contenders and my point about the bottom line relates to your Drury/Briere comment. They did not sign Briere because of money, they did not sign Drury because he renegged on a deal with the team. But with the Bills/NFL, this is a huge money maker even in a small market and spending up to the cap. Those situations don't need to happen with the Bills. It's a nickname for Golisano--- because he's so cheap he probably steals sugar packets from restaurants.
The Sabres were Stanley Cup contenders IN SPITE of Golisano/Quinn. The Drury/Briere fiasco was a direct result of their micromanaging.
The #1 OT's in America 2010 and 2011 are Bills.
