If it's that close, then they may as well hold him out.

Regardless of what happens through this Sunday's game, the season is a marathon, not a sprint, and they need their best players healthy.

I've never heard that before. Very good. Although, tomorrows game is a very important part of the marathon. If he can play and help the team win, put him in. That's what he is paid for.

  2. Fred was running spryly before the injury - he looked like his old self. He looked like someone we could use on the field in the unlikely event Shady were to develop a lingering injury that would render him unavailable. Oh wait...

he did, but he had 5 touches into the 4th qtr... anyone would run spryly with such limited action. We would need more than that.

  3. No, these are professionals. The penalties are an extension of the HC; letting the players play freely with a lack of accountability and leadership and brainwashing the defense into believing they have already been anointed as the best in the league.

how do you hold them accountable? Bench them? Would you have benched Hughes and Brown ? How about Urbik for a few holding penalties.... who would you play instead?

  4. A small halftime silver lining...they are down by less than two touchdowns and the Giants aren't playing very well. It's at least POSSIBLE for the Bills to get out of their own damn way after the half and start playing like they know what they're doing. This starts with Roman; he HAS to start calling a decent game here. The offensive strategy has been downright sad.

    they aren't?

  5. Bills teams in the past have been the type that can get up for the big games (though often falling short), but also playing down to the level of the competition. So for as many times as they pulled out a big win against a stronger opponent, they also fell flat and lost to teams they should have beaten. Those, to me, are signs of teams that needed better talent, better coaching, and better discipline.

As many others have pointed out, this year certainly seems different than other years. We have much better talent, and we have solid coaching. Execution has been strong for the most part, though there were discipline issues in the Pats*** game that bit us in the ass.

But over this three game stretch against Miami, the Giants, and Tennessee, I thought we would have a good opportunity to see the true character of this team. Three teams we definitely should beat, though each with its distinct challenges; Miami with its tough defensive front, the Giants with their SB-winning QB and tough receivers, and Tennessee with its stellar rookie QB, and two of those on the road. But despite those challenges, there is no reason this team should not be 4-1 heading into a showdown at home against the Bengals.

The game against Miami was a sign to me that this isn't the same old Bills. On the road, they not only took care of business, but they held their foot on the gas and didn't let up. True, Miami is probably worse than any of us thought going into the season, but again, previous Bills teams would find a way to play down to their level and make it a close game. There are initial signs that this team has a different, stronger character.

Now we have the Giants and Tennessee, and two more opportunities to show that this team is built for real success. Teams have more film on us, so they'll have more ways to attack our weaknesses. How this team responds against these two additional opponents will tell me a lot about who they truly are. I don't expect every game to be a 41-14 thrashing (sure would be nice, though), but if this really is a team with playoff expectations I expect them to execut'e well and take care of business these next two games. If not, well, I guess we will still have a ways to go.

    Go Bills!!

I'm pretty confident there is enough talent on this team to make the playoffs. If they do lose games we think they shouldn't, I'm not so sure 'character' would be the reason. If they quit, took a bunch of personal foul penalties... , then maybe you could say that, but to lose to any NFL team is no great sin and shouldn't be considered a major character flaw. Judge each game on it's own merits and circumstances. Missing key players this week may be a factor if we lose, it wouldn't be because of lack of character. But I think they will win tomorrow and will win the majority of their games as long as they stay relatively healthy.

There is always a head scratching loss. I don't think this week but Tennessee could be that one as they look ahead to Cinci. If (and it's a big if) they stay focused, beat Cinci at home, I think we will be 8-1 for the big rematch with Pats. If we thought the hype was big week 2 wait til that one.

You think that they will be thinking about Cincinnati while they are playing Tennessee? They have different color uniforms so that may help keep them focused on the team that they are actually playing

  6. There was talk of Pettine getting some offers, and lots of folks said no way he gets an offer. Well, ole Mike jumped at the first opportunity, and while I can see why he took the job for the $, and experience. That job was probably the very worst HCing job in the NFL.

Still, after only playing three games it is a bit early to be worried just yet.

And it will likely be an open position this coming off season

  7.

The tendency is to rush back and play through the hamstring. That doesn't work and turns a tear into a chronic injury. He will be pain free long before he should be playing. Once he's pain free, he should keep sitting. Hamstrings and groin pulls are two very tricky injuries in athletes. The athlete needs much much more rest than they think.

So my point is one of what most would feel is "necessary." This Rex Ryan "play him at 80%" idea is really stupid. That will just ensure the team never has a healthy McCoy, which in a team looking like a playoff contender is stupid.

Bills desperately need a backup to Williams at RB. Not sure if it's worth re-signing Brown but they have to get someone.

are you a doctor or are you just saying things you think are true , but you really are just guessing?

  8. Two things: Hamstrings are super tricky. It can feel good then go. He needs to sit until he's pain free, then sit some more. He likely won't be right the entire season if he keeps playing. Sit him for a lot longer than necessary

The other issue is Williams. As good as he is, he's young and will get tired. The Bills need a real #3 because it ain't Boobie Dixon.

longer than necessary? makes no sense. How about just as long as necessary?

  9. Not a 7th round pick, a 5th round pick two seasons from now. The Bills GM is amazing! I agree, it seems like the Cowboys were a team in need and the Bills didn't get much in return. In a few weeks, with few more QB's going down with injuries, Cassel would have been worth more. I wonder if the ghost of Buddy Nix woke up and got snuck back into One Bills Drive.

Doesn't matter how many QB's go down. Cassel isn't worth much. You think someone will give a 3rd rounder or something like that for him. Makes no sense. You still need to be realistic. Now if Cassel was considered a very good QB, then the price goes up. Cassel doesn't know the system, doesn't have Dez... he won't play unless it's totally a mess in Dallas.

What is this like the only doctor around? Seems everyone goes to him since forever. Got to be older that dirt. Actually 73. I've heard to stay away from older doctors as they are not up on current practices and procedures

Yeah, I'm sure Andrews is pretty clueless right now. But you're the only one that knows it.

  11. Bad loss, but hey.

1- Tyrod, with an atrocious 1st half, came back out to play. 2 picks were WR deflections, that both could've been caught by his WR's. Great ball to Sammy. Ran well, avoided hits. Good scramble and pass to Woods.

2 - Rex Ryan. I know, you're all gonna think I'm crazy, but Rex is one of the major reasons we were still in that game in the end, IMO. The rivalry and smack talk angle was played up so much, I think this had a factor in BB calling so many pass plays at the end. One of those led to the fumble that got us back in the game. He was still brutal in his gameplan today, but this is a positive thread, so get off me.

3 - Shady ran pretty well both on the ground and after the catch. Made some good plays.

4 - Sammy flat out burned his defender on the TD. Good play, even if his defender kinda stinks.

5 - Percy Harvin is appearing to be the favorite target of TT, had some good catches and the vet presence to get OOB.

6 - Darby was okay. Gronk went off, but he made some plays defensively.

7 - KW was the best player on our D-line again this week, and it wasn't close. Anytime there was pressure, it was him. Maybe everyone else is doubled, but he made some plays.

we already know that Shady, Sammy , Harvin and KW are good players, the fact the played well should be a given, not necessarily a positive. With TT, you are missing the fumbles, 8 sacks(not all his fault), poor choices in the pocket not to avoid hits, and the interceptions were high passes. Few, if any positives in todays game in my opinion.

  12. Last night, i printed up 100 normal sized pages, of a full page asterisk.... atleast 50% of the fans i met today had to have it explained to them what its significance was..... dissappointed..... tsk tsk... like literally had no idea what i was talking about, and even after i explained it, looked at me like i was speaking Korean.... sadness

Too many 20yr olds going just to get s*$%t faced, and being uneducated.... and thats coming from a 27yr old

maybe they were just wondering why anyone would take the time to actually print 100 8x10's of an asterisk and think it's cool.

  13.

how about this: I did not say anywhere in my rebuttal to you that you should not express your opinion. You're either really upset about my critique of your post, or are lacking some rudimentary reading comprehension skills. I was poking fun at you by suggesting you might need to get a sense of humor. And I was expressing my opinion, just like you were with yours. Not sure how you've misinterpreted my post, but whatever.

Lighten up Francis, and GO BILLS !!

and if I was going to the game, I'd make a sign about the ridiculousness of this exchange, something like "someone on TBD thinks I'm an idiot for making this sign - GO BILLS " !!!

you said I shouldn't question others.... which was me expressing my opinion. I still think sign makers in general are pretty stupid, but time to move on.

  14.

with all due respect, it sounds like you need to get a sense of humor. I never thought I'd see a post like yours on this board. I fully agree that the Belicheat. Cheatriots, etc. are played out and sophomoric, but the really creative, funny, clean signs are what separates the few from the masses.

Far be it from you, or anyone else, to question how someone might want to spend his/her time & money in the pursuit of exercising creative license. Just my opinion.

How about this, if I shouldn't express my opinion, you can keep yours to yourself too. But I really don't care if you express your opinion or what you think of mine. Too bad their isn't some type of forum where people could express their opinions about a variety of topics pertaining to the Bills, one where, even if you don't agree with the opinion, you agree that they are in their right to express it.

And I haven't seen a creative sign since Taro Tsujimoto stopped making his.
