  1. Personal opinion...Tebow would be an upgrade to our back up QB position. And would get us through to next season after EJ fails this year.

Plus---he'd bring jobs to the area. ESPN would certainly build a satellite news station in OP to keep up the coverage of Tebowmania.

Watch Tebow try to throw the ball, I mean , honestly. He can't. He does not have anything even resembling an NFL arm, even a bad NFL arm. Time to get serious here children.
  2. Excellent point, nearly everyone is focused on EJ and the back-up QB's, when we probably should be calling out Hackett.

Are you really saying that Lewis and Tuel were good last year? The focus should be on the offensive line. They are not good. We had to sign a free agent guard that isn't very good and draft 3 lineman this past year. This should show the weakness of our line. That is the main problem for this team.
  3. Tim Tebow is a football player, and while he is unspectacular as a QB, I would be fine with bringing him in here to compete as a back-up.

Signing him would be an instant upgrade over Tuel & Lewis. Can anyone deny that?

I think almost every coach in the NFL would deny that. There are few quality backups in this league and not one coach wants Tebow. That should tell you something.

By the logic of Tebow supporters, Lewis has shown he can win too. Won 2 games as a backup last year on a team that only won 6 all year. Tebow had success with a playoff team.

  4. my problem with JBJ is that he was a liar.. the point of the post, (in my opinion) was that what gives a smug, pop star, or anyone actually, the right to rip a team out for their egocentric desires..

the obvious answer is capitalism. It's a legal business transaction. And is he any more egocentric than any other potential owner? He's rich, has more wealthy backers - don't see this being about ego - he wants to own an NFL team, so do I.

My problem with JBJ is same as many others, he is a liar and tried to deceive to get the team. I take it personally, because he made it personal. He could have done exactly what the LA crowd did after they signed the NDA and saw the terms of sale and the difficulty moving the team, drop out. Instead, JBJ puts up this façade that he never wanted to move team, has his cronies (Jaws) tell the community the same. In the end, it looks like a 99% probability that he won't get the team, and that's what he and we (WNY) both deserve.

I think his original plan was to move the team, but I don't doubt that if he had to keep the team here in order to own them he would.
  5. Everything is personal to somebody. Most people just keep it to themselves when another person crosses their line. In terms of the Bills, fans aren't shy about letting it be known our line has been crossed. No, Bon Jovi isn't the devil. Mr. Bon Jovi very well might be a nice guy. Yet, he has aligned himself with men who wanted to hi-jack the team out of WNY; an institution that was born and bred in Buffalo, NY, and supported by the WNY region for over 50 years. That is very personal as you are seeing. Some of the venom is over the top, true enough. But what you suggest is just business for TO group is personal to many others.

So, to Bon Jovi, Tannenbaum and Rogers I would say it's not business on my end, it's just personal. They aren't akin to terrorists or dictators as one t-shirt I saw ridiculously put Bon-Jovi in the company of. However, they have proven to be disingenuous, sneaky and disrespectful to Bills fans everywhere, including our brethren from Ontario who enjoy the Bills in WNY, the good and valuable citizens of WNY, and the legacy of AFL-NFL stalwart, Mr. Ralph C. Wilson, Jr.

The Bills were founded when my father was 9 years old. He's a 62 year old man now. And over that time our team had one owner, who in spite of our feelings about the product at times, remained fiercely loyal to the area when he could have moved the team out of town many times. That means something. Business doesn't have to come at the expense of tradition, relationships or character. When Pegula is named owner he will want to make money too. But unlike the TO group it won't strictly be about cash and carry.

    Go Bills.

I'm not trying to start a big argument about this, but just want to add that the only reason it would be personal is if you choose to make it so. I'm fairly comfortable thinking that JBJ motives were strictly business and had no thought of victimizing you , me or your dad. I started going to games in the late 60's so I'm pretty solid with the team like your dad, I just choose not to take it personally because I know it's not meant that way.

Of course, I'm not arguing that you don't have the right to feel that way. Just my opinion.

  6. I agree with most of this post, except for the bolded part. I believe moving a team to Toronto would be a financial nightmare. Maybe the worst move one could make. There are probably markets that might deliver a better return, but I don't' believe TO is one of them. Moving a team from Buffalo (a safe, reliable and established NFL market) to another country, with a terrible record of supporting football (NFL or CFL) is a major risk.

I agree, I should have clarified - another city, but in the US - San Antonio, LA....
  7. lol, but seriously the guy can never come to WNY again and i'm all in favor of a lifetime ban on all of his music. he might have ruined his chances at ever getting a team (he probably couldn't afford one anyhow). just think of the outcry in whatever city he is rumored to be interested in next. he better cut ties with these Toronto snakes asap and distance himself from the NFL for a while and if he's lucky people will one day forget. but not us...

I understand the resentment of JBJ over this, but honestly, when this is over just let it go. I can't blame him for wanting to own an NFL team, it makes perfect financial sense to want to move them from Buffalo. I'm sure if he had a chance to own the team and he had to keep them in Buffalo he would. It's business, not personal. Also, he sat next to my friend at the Super Bowl in Pasadena, friend said he was the nicest guy and was rooting for the Bills. I think sometimes Buffalo looks silly doing things like defending it's crappy weather and now boycotting music. Pegula will own the team, the team will be in Buffalo the rest of our lives. Let's move on.
  8. OK so the Browns GM When asked if Hoyer is on the trading block/ going to be traded. "No absolutely not". Why not just say that. To me there is too much talking there. Trying to cover up something.

The Browns GM may not be telling the truth when saying absolutely not, and Whaley shouldn't say it, because if during the season it looks like Spiller won't resign, they may trade him.
  9. this kid is already a steal! We're watching a 7th round pick showing he AT LEAST belongs on the team, and maybe even as a starter, as a rookie!

That's more than you can honestly expect with a 7th round pick!

I wouldn't consider him a steal just yet. We all heard that he had first round talent , so the fact the he is playing well shouldn't be a surprise. The surprise right now is that he hasn't failed a drug test yet. The reason he lasted until the 7th round had nothing to do with talent, it's that every team in the league expected him to self destruct at some point. I think it would be a couple years of good play and no drugs before we consider him a steal.
  10. He hasn't even played a regular season down yet and you already have him as a really good starter in the NFL and possible trade bait

This board is out of control

He hasn't even played a regular season down yet and you already have him as a really good starter in the NFL and possible trade bait

This board is out of control

Right, and even if he was good enough to start, what's the point in trading him. We are finally building a roster with much needed depth, and some want to trade it away, especially a find in the 7th round. Crazy. We should want to keep our good players.

  11. I'm confused about the offensive intentions. 1. They give up a first-rounder next year to get a top WR. That's fine, i guess (at least until next year.) But then, 2. they go and get Bryce Brown when they already have two premier RBs. So now they have so many good receivers, EJ should be throwing all day, but they have 3 top RBs who need to get the ball too. What the hell? You only have so many offensive downs. Who gets the ball? What's the philosophy?

And then you run the ball up the middle 3 times a row!!! Jesus H. Christ! I know it's pre-season, but so what? Call some plays for your stars!

Like I say, I'm confused. Help me out.

I think the simple answer is you want as much talent on the team as you can get. You will always hear about how important depth is, now we have a team that has that critical aspect to the team. Wait until late in the season and look at how we use the players. Injuries happen, matchups make for different lineups.... lots of things change over the course of a season. As for the philosophy, I think it's still run first, pass second. We have a offensive line that still isn't settled yet and Manuel is still in the learning stage. We will run the ball more than last year, but if the line improves and EJ does as well, we become a very difficult offense to face because of the WR talent we have. This isn't anything to worry about, it's a very good thing.
  12. Good insights. Your concerns make me nervous! (because I know Schwartz won't be up to Pettine's scheming)

I also have big doubts about the OC and his ability to make use of our offensive talent like CJ and Watkins.

I liked Pettine, but let's not make him out to be something he's not. His defense ranked near the bottom in many key statistical catagories. He fell in love with the sack, but we never did anything to improve on the run defense. He had an MLB play out of position and we suffered for it. I think Pettine was hoping the big sack numbers would help him land a HC job - which it did , but I think Schwartz as DC will focus on the run defense as well as attacking the QB - I think our defense will be much better this year.
  13. Stupid question here but what exactly has Pegula's ownership of the Sabre's done for them? I ask because that may give some indication of what he'd do as the Bills owner. I mean, I hope like hell the team stays in WNY but at some point the owner needs to spend the cash to help the team on the road to winning. If the team is going to continue on the current path I'm not so sure fans will continue to support them....

I think a point that many people miss is that even the best owners make mistakes , or even if they aren't making big mistakes, you don't always win. I think the Sabres are on the right track now, but even that is no guarantee of a cup. I think the Bills are way ahead of the Sabres in terms of playoff quality, but still no guarantee of anything. Sometimes, you need some luck on your side.
  14. This is one of the more intriguing battles at training camp. We are pretty solid at WR for once (assuming everyone stays healthy). They must have felt pretty confident with our group if they let Stevie go. I feel like Easley is all but a lock to make the team based on his special teams play (led the league in tackles). So that probably only leaves one spot remaining.

There is the possibility we will retain 7, especially for special teams, but who out of the choices above do you think has the best chance at making this team?

    1. Sammy Watkins

    2. Robert Woods

    3. Mike Williams

    4. Marquise Goodwin

    5. Marcus Easley (ST)

    6. ??

Let's keep this updated as training camp progresses. This one probably won't be decided until the final cut.

Whoever it is, let's hope we never need to be using our 6th WR in a game.
  15. Sorry you miss Byrd red, but don't you see that paying top dollar for past performance is a poor business model?

they are paying him for future performance , based on past performance. Long term contracts are a poor business model but that's how the game is played. No way out of that one. You want the top players you need to shell out the cash. MIght as well give it to a player with a proven record of success.

hes undersized and never was a hitter nor a great tackler, but he was a ball hawk. To be honest I don't think most of us will even think about him this year

whatever his size is, it hasn't caused him any problems, he is a terrific tackler and yes, a ball hawk. Makes him very worthy of pro bowls and large contracts. We will miss him this year.
  16. Not for nothing, but I find it iconic that Byrd is unable to play or practice for at least the near future. After signing a contract worth 26 Million in guaranteed money he goes and has back surgery. Glad he ain't here. God know he would have dragged his return to the line up till about mid season. a great player for sure....but what a douch!

I think we would be a much better team with Byrd than without him. I'm sure the Saints were aware of his back situation and were comfortable with it. It sounds like he will be ready to practice soon. He is a top player in this league, people may not like him because he held out but make no mistake, he's a superstar.
  17. OK, so our run defense has been pretty bad for several years now. And Kiko's hurt. So we need somebody else to sniff out running plays and shut 'em down. How are we gonna do that with the talent at hand?

Preston Brown's a rookie - - so he's likely to over-pursue and leave cutback lanes.

If Aaron Williams is taking Byrd's FS spot, he's gonna be preoccupied with the pass. True, we got several other Williams on the team - - but they ain't Kiko.

Marcel Dareus - - well, don't get me started on Marcel's shortcomings.

But we are in luck. Advances in stem cell research can now give our weaker players the opportunity to sniff out the run, even if some road-grading OL or smash mouth FB gets them completely turned around at the line of scrimmage.

Don't believe me? Read this article - - this breakthrough could have made John DiGiorgio a star:

Do you think that was a weakness of Kiko as a rookie also?
  18. I agree. But to say there are bigger fish to fry would be an understatement. Let's get some quality starters and depth on the defense so we can stop teams from running and scoring at will. Moorman isn't going to cause this team to lose. The defense is.

I'm sure they can address the punter situation along with any other roster issues. We have quality starters from last year, we brought in more this year via draft and free agency. I believe they are attempting to address their weaknesses very aggressively this year.
