This teams chemistry really is McDermott's crowing achievement.  It makes it more fun for fans and makes it easily to emotionally invest in the team.  In many ways it is a great strategy.  I see no reason to disrupt.

Part of that strategy seems include "dance with who you brung".  The teams seems to want to win together with the players it has or lose together.  And there is the only real downside.   Dance with who you brung, means you might not be dancing with the prettiest girl.

The last couple of super bow winners, the Rams, and Bucs won with big contributions from new players.  I am fully on board with the Bills strategy, but it is  not at all clear it is the optimal strategy for winning championships.

"Winning isn’t everything; it's the only thing" is a well-known quotation in sports.

This may or may not be the same as "process and player happiness are not the only thing, they are everything" .  It would be wonderful to have both.

We've recently brought in Klein, Rhodes, Marlowe, Hines and in the hunt for OBJ.  We didn't bring any of them to the dance initially.

As I said... either he isnt getting open or Josh doesnt want to throw him the ball.  There is nothing else it can be.

Or that Diggs and Davis are better options. Or the plays aren't designed for our 5th round rookie, instead for our top flight players. It can be something else, or a combination of things. I'd rather passes go to Diggs, Davis and Knox first.

Well, he moved the sticks 34 times last season. He moved the sticks 37 in his first year as a Bill.

We all know what happened and why he isn’t here. And I won’t get into that.

He didn't want to be here is a big reason why. Plus he's retired, another big reason.

I dunno but he has played 25% of the snaps on the season and 44% of the snaps against Detroit.  Got his second biggest opportunity of the season against Detroit and did nothing with it.  Dude is invisible.

Do you think McKenzie should have sat more against Detroit?

We started blitzing after Miller got hurt. Is that going to be the new norm or is it going to regress to the 4+ years of history that we have to go off of? Is your point supposed to be we blitz a lot now…Thursday was an outlier. Or maybe they finally got smart.

One point was that we were a dominant defense without blitzing when we were healthy.

If you were complaining about our defense early in the season you weren't paying attention.

Strangely, I thought the clock changed from 5 second to 7 seconds. At first when the TO was called, I am quite sure I saw 5 remaining seconds and then when Bass was lining up, it changed to 7 seconds. Was I imagining things?

    I thought the same thing.

How about before Thursday? No team blitzes less then us

after Thursday's game, you said we never blitz. Apparently you didn't watch the game Thursday or you just don't pay attention.

When we were healthy on defense, not blitzing much was a great thing for our defense. We were dominant. Injuries are the problem, nothing else right now in my opinion.

I have zero issue with the offense. We are still scoring at an incredible rate and our QB has been hurt for 3 weeks. I have no issue with McDermott. Monday through Saturday he’s as good as there is and he took our franchise from a 20 year joke, to a super bowl favorite. The last 2 games were in very difficult circumstances and we won both. That’s something to be proud of. This team I loaded with talent and if we ever get out of our own way, there may be nobody that can beat us.

My issue lies with the Defense. That’s the biggest concern I have and it’s growing worse by the week. I have never liked Fraizer. I hate his approach to calling a game. I didn’t like it when he was in Minnesota and I don’t like it here. We have an incredibly talented defense. The best personnel in the NFL on defense IMO and when healthy I don’t think anyone is close. The players are why we have had any success. There is zero imagination to this defense. It’s incredibly simple and predictable. Every team will

tell you what we do is basic. We just have executed it at a very high level because our secondary has been an eraser. We never blitz, every accurate QB has all day to sit back and carve us up. We never come off nickel even when teams are making us stop the run. Every physical team imposes their will on us inside on the ground. We cant tackle, can’t get off the field on 3rd down. We can only take away the run when we focus all effort and then the pass defense is completely compromised. When we aren’t turning people over, we aren’t stopping them. This defense has been figured out and it’s broken. This is why we lost to KC and this is how our season will end this year…unless we fix it. McDermott is the coach but this is not his defense. It’s Leslie Fraizers. We need McDermott to take this defense over, call the plays and change the aggression. We should be setting the tone on defense and making teams uncomfortable. That’s not Fraizer. He’s a soft, fall back, bend but don’t break and hope the other team gets bored. That’s not going to work in a league with this many good QBs. That’s not going to work against the better offenses in the playoffs. Look at the difference in personality. Look how intense McDermott is. I have seen him take over the play-call and immediately the pressure increases. We should be dictating play and not even allowing teams to set up to throw balls past the sticks on 3rd and long. This is a change that needs to be made. If we go down we need it to be with out fastball. Have the HC call his specialty.

Just read a stat from Thursday that we blitzed Goff 46% of his dropbacks. A little more often than 'never blitzing'.

My biggest problem with McD is that he appears to be very uninvolved during the game. He looks like some soccer coaches where he figures if given a chair he’d sit there and let the players work things out. Maybe he’s right, and he’s definitely VERY trusting of his Assistants, but I’d prefer it if he would get more involved. It’s just a management style thing to me.

I'm guessing that he's very involved in the game. That's a very odd take on him.

When we were healthy the first bunch of games, the defense was absolutely dominant. Missing so many players really has a huge impact on the unit's performance.  I hated going through your ramblings, so I didn't even notice if you mentioned all the injuries on the defense at all.

More trickery and gadget plays needed; jet sweeps, occasional Wild Cat and maybe a few flea flickers. Daboll definitely schemed up more trickery.

Most trick plays are offshoots of running plays. If you don't run well consistently, you will have trouble running trick plays. Nobody will fall for a flea flicker if we are passing most of the time, they're already expecting a pass.

Bills tied for 5th fewest man games lost to injury with only 83.

The difference? Many of them have been to key players unlike the last several years.

So the excuses the Bills are somehow more injured than every other team needs to stop. They are STILL one of the least injured teams in the NFL even with what seems like a crazy rash of injuries...we just don't see all the players out for other teams because we don't follow them very closely.

Injuries to non key players/starters would help as well.

So what this tells me is that except for Miami, every other team with more injuries than the Bills has a worse record than us. Maybe it is the injuries after all.

And to add to that , injuries, maybe 'explanation' is better than 'excuse', but it's the best explanation for teams underperforming or struggling in areas. If a team is missing it's starting pro bowl safeties and all pro CB, plus 1st round pick also being a qb, it makes sense that a team would struggle in that area, because of injuries.

Injuries probably have more impact on games than anything else.

call it injuries if you want to but this D is pathetic and that’s on the coaches.

faith is lost in him 💯

Except for a handful of snaps for White and Elam, this defense is without those 2, Hyde, Edmunds, Rosseau, Epenesa, we lost Miller during the game.  That's 7 regulars out of the lineup, and we were facing a high scoring offense. If we play like this 100% healthy, then there is a problem, but not now.

Wrong guy. Dorsey should be on the hot seat. D got a turnover & a safety, while missing 5 or 6 players. Offense was anemic against 2nd worst run D in the league missing their best corner. The Offense consistently leaves the D out to dry. Dorsey is not very good. He may get better, but we don't have several seasons to wait for that.

Dorsey seems to be an issue.  Very predictable offense, and it seems like we just hope Allen pulls each game out. Not sure our play calling suits our offensive line skill set.

    1.  It is awful to watch football in domes, like watching in a big living room. Football is meant to be played outside.

    2.  Most dome teams are soft and they are not very good, historically.  Think: Detroit, New Orleans, Minnesota (once they got a dome), Dallas--a giant, cavernous mess, The raiders,  Colts, Falcons, Texans, Chargers, Rams and Cardinals.  Yes, some SB wins there, but overall, soft, inconsistent teams that almost never seem to measure up to their potential.

    3.  Tailgating dies when domes arrive. Imagine the difference in pregame and post game atmosphere with a dome.  No thanks.

But, it's silly to keep talking about this--the Bills did a great thing and rejected the ridiculous calls for a dome on the new stadium, something that would have ended the Bills as we know them.  One of the best decisions in franchise history.

Go Bills!  31--20, for a great Thanksgiving.

Why wouldn't fans tailgate with a dome? I tailgate here in AZ with a dome. All fans here do.

Setting aside the obvious reason of a dome giving our team a major advantage, I just don’t understand the ROI of an open-air stadium.

they could build a stadium similar to Lucas Oil for not much more than they are spending now, and could be in the running for all sorts of other major sporting events (even the Super Bowl), and use it for a host of other events.

Imagine a 7 foot snowstorm super bowl week. For many reasons, a super bowl will never be in Buffalo.

I'm no doctor, but did stay at the Holiday Inn last night, wonder if it could have anything to do with flying home, Change in air pressure could increase swelling so they add the boot??

Maybe, but it's a 30 minute flight. Hopefully not enough time to cause any issues.
