The Score's Jordan Schultz reports that the Cardinals plan to trade DeAndre Hopkins this offseason.

i’ve been telling my buddies for the last month that if we could just get DeAndre Hopkins to be our 1b to Stefon Diggs 1a we would be set at receiver next year. Gabe Davis can then flourish as the third guy like he used to. And we know DeAndre Hopkins has some of the best hands this league has ever seen.

Then the draft would be Offensive line galore with a sprinkle of secondary help

If somehow the Bills could acquire Hopkins....I don't think the top 2 draft priorities are OL and DB.....would be MLB big hole there) and WR (still). Bills have signed 2 guards and supposedly re signed Quessenberry.

He is a Solid young OG.  His issues are he is hurt a lot.  I think if healthy will be a nice swing OG for us

Not necessarily " a lot"  but concussions are tricky. I dont think he missed a game for the first few years. He played RT in college and the Bills DO like versatility.

This is a reasonable list, but I agree with the previous post that the #1 glaring hole, right now, is MLB.  There is nobody on the current roster who can adequatlely fill that role.  I think that they need to both sign a veteran and also draft one.  Where in the draft you select one will depend on who they sign in FA before the draft.

More OL help, a #2 WR and a backup safety are also on the list.

My question is...if, for example, you sign Wagner, why would you invest a high pick on another MLB, that would be sitting on the  bench?

  4. Are you forgetting the Bills signed Kyle Allen? They aren't drafting a "backup quarterback " this year. Maybe an undrafted arm for camp.

Forget the Hopkins fatasy; I just don't think Beane can raise much more money via restructures. Can't assume another team wants Oliver, but if you DO trade him,you create another roster hole.

And....if you SIGN WAGNER fine, for THIS year. But then, where would you DRAFT the eventual MLB? Would you wait until next year?

Holcomb was hired before Frazier came to them and told them about this

On the 28th, they said Frazier had come to the team and discussed his feelings on stepping away "last week."

Holcomb was hired on Feb. 8th.

But yeah, they're dealing with this with the folks who are already on the staff.

It is possible this move was in the works BEFORE Holcomb got  hired.

Maybe they will let Frazier keep his DC title to save face, and Holcomb can work under HIS title.

The first week of Free Agency is over and we are beginning to see where Beane felt the Bills came up short offensively.

The Deonte Harty and Trent Sherfield signings are an indication to me that the Bills felt they weren't dynamic enough at receiver. We now have two guys with wheels who can also create their own space against zone defenses.

The only mystery to me is why Shakir was not given a bigger role last season after it became evident Mckenzie was a liability against zone defenses? My guess is they needed Mckenzie as that twitchy slot receiver and Shakir was looked at as the # 3 outside receiver. I think it is expected Shakir takes a big step and plays a larger role in the offense moving forward.

Those looking for a receiver early on in the draft will be disappointed. I believe Beane still thinks Gabe Davis is a #2 receiver and that he let him and Diggs down by having such a weak group behind them. In a cap world you have to be strategic with your upgrades and improving your # 3/4/5 receivers will ultimately improve Gabe Davis's numbers as well. I am not saying I necessarily agree with this thinking but...

The fastest way for this offense to improve is to improve the oline and the Bills have already taken that step by handing McGovern a big contract. Watching the Bills near the end of last year you could see alot of their offensive play calling was tanked from poor oline play. That might be more of an indictment on our coaches but will never know what Allen's limitations and abilities were with that partially torn UCL.

Those wanting olinemen in Round 1 or 2 are going to be happy because this is the direction I think Beane is going to go. I think Brown needs to be replaced and I'd be looking Right Tackle in Round 1 but I could also see the Bills wanting to upgrade on Bates and instead taking a guard. O'Cyrus Torrence would be my target in Round 1 and Steve Avila could be a Round 2 trade up target if Beane goes elsewhere in round 1.

I am hoping Dawson Knox has a rebound season and he shouldn't be held accountable for having a down year after the tragic events of last summer.

The running game seems fairly standard. By improving the oline you expect improved play from Cook and Hines. Harris finally gives us a back who can actually gain tough yards in short yardage situations. It would be nice for our RB's to run the ball for 1st downs instead of Allen risking his health on 3rd and 3. Heck maybe will actually see some screens to our backs this season with improved olinemen.

McGovern didn't get THAT big a contract and how much of an improvement is he, really?

    Bills Re-signed Quessenberry,the "late bloomer"....yawn.

I wonder what Boettger looks like this year, and do they expect Brown to take a big step?

It just boils down to this: The Bills thought certain guys (Davis, McKenzie, Saffold, Moss, Spencer Brown, Ryan Bates) would step up and be adequate to good contributors on the offense, and none of them stepped up to a level that was acceptable for a team of this caliber.  They've made some low end upgrades, and they still have faith apparently in Davis, Brown, and Bates in that they didn't go replace them.

I think the offense is slightly better. Slightly better might be enough to make things way less clunky. It's hard to say. I want to see more offensive investment via the draft. G/C, WR, TE, T... any of those early would be a boon, but you've got to remember that McD absolutely refuses to play rookies.

I noted that the free agent signings are relatively young vets that should have no problem fulfilling their contracts. Is this a bit of a departure for  Beane?

I really hope this isn't a sign of faith in Brown as a starter. Ideally he would be the one to fill the role of primary back/swing tackle and we would find a starter that isn't a complete turnstile.

But if Q comes cheap then it wouldn't be bad to have both him and Brown as backups and this would be a nice signing/depth.

Hopefully they still bring in someone that can at least compete and push for the starting job.

Beane is filling holes and building depth in the roster.. so he doesn't have to 'reach" in the draft . Have to get to 90 for camp.

Last night as i sit thumbing through the channels I saw a listing on the History channel the name of the show was The Foods That Built America so i went there to see what it was about i got up went to the kitchen & when i came back the show that had just come on was about the Buffalo wing & how it started to be .

In 1963/64 there was a black restauranteur by the name of John Young that had a restaurant near the old rock pile i didn't happen to catch the name of it but he had been ordering wings & frying them then adding what looked to be a barbecue sauce on them & they sold very well among the community but this was during the time of much distress in Buffalo due to the civil rights movement .

John Young fell upon hard times & wound up moving to Illinois so only those that came into his restaurant new about the chicken wings in the sauce which after he left no one was making them & the chicken wing was considered a throw away item so not many other restaurants would buy them until one day a restaurant about a mile away named the Anchor Bar got a shipment of chicken wings by mistake .

The original Anchor bar which was a Italian restaurant owned by Frank & Theresa Velisimo which Theresa was the main cook took the mistaken order of chicken wings & she wondered why they got delivered there & just exactly what she would do with them until i believe it was her son asked if they had anything mom could cook up for him & a couple of his friends so instead of leaving the wings hole she cut of the tip & cut the 2 remaining pieces into the the drumstick & the flat .

She fried them but when she took a bight they didn't have much of any flavor so she added some butter & a spicy sauce that she had for a different recipe & covered them in the sauce . Her son & his friends thought it was much to spicey all by them selves so she thought how can i take the heat down a bit so she added blue cheese as the dip & then she wanted to add something more after she put them on the menu because they started out as free in baskets on the bar kind of like they do with peanuts .

But soon everyone in Buffalo was coming in to eat them so that's when she put them on the menu & added celery with them & the original sauce to cover the wings is now known as Franks Red Hot which i'm not sure about this if any of you do know please elaborate on this but but i'm thinking that seeing as the owner of the Anchor bars name was Frank that could be where the red hot sauce got it's name & i wonder if they were the originators of it .

Of course the show goes on to tell how 2 brothers from Ohio that had visited Buffalo  & went back home & while sitting at a bar ordered some wings to which no one knew about them so they decided to try & duplicate the sauce but couldn't & had 12 sauces made up & decided to have all 12 on the menu .

They wanted to open a restaurant so they did they had 50 different beers on tap 12 sauces for the wings & at first they called Buffalo Wild wings & Weck the Weck being Beef on Weck as we all know from living up home but it didn't start out to great . The bar was near the Ohio State Buckeye stadium in Columbus & 1 day while a college student came in for a beer & some wings he asked if they could turn the Buckeyes on the TV it was near the end of the game so he did .

So they dropped the Weck from the name & Hence Buffalo Wild Wings was born & became the first Sports bar which was 1982 . Shortly after that hooters came to be and we all know now that Buffalo wings are all over the world & they said that the anchor bar serves 1 ton of wings per day .

If you get a chance look up on the History Channel the show called The Foods That Built America & the name of this episode is "Flight of the Buffalo Wing" I think being Buffalo fans you would dig it I know i was glued to it till the end . So now we all know a bit more about how Buffalo wings came to be in Buffalo & I believe they said John Young's daughter opened a bar not to far from the Anchor bar which again i didn't catch the name but maybe we should pay homage to Mr. Young for first starting to put wings in sauce .

But there will only be 1 Anchor bar where the original Buffalo wing was first made !! Thank you Theresa Velisimo for many nights of drinking to be able to have Buffalo wings to go with a ice cold Brew !!!

Dude. Could you have posted this in several volumes? Or maybe used a link?

Thank you for putting a good bit of thought into this.  I understand what you're thinking about - how many of the Bills currently signed players are really solid to make the 53 man  roster? And where do they need to add?  I think you did a pretty good job of identifying that.

One thing to keep in mind is that the Bills aren't looking to fill a 53 man roster at present.  They're looking to fill a 90 man roster to go into training camp.

So another way to look at it is that the Bills currently have 61 players under contract by my count (look at Spotrac and add up the ones that are lined out because their salaries are lower than the top 51.)  A couple of those were actually on the roster last year (Quintin Morris is an example.

So the Bills are actually looking to add 29 players between now and training camp.  In addition to 6 draft picks, they will likely add 6-10 undrafted rookies, and 13 or so FA.  And at the bottom of the roster, those guys will battle it out and a couple will make the 53, then another handful will make the practice squad.

For some of the needs you identify (such as a DE to stopgap Miller), the Bills may actually like someone they've already got signed such as Kendal Vickers, who played a couple games for the Raiders.  Same thing on OL.

I know I will be hella disappointed if you're correct and our "improvements" to OL consist of Connor McGovern, a 31 yr old "fringe" OT like Brandon Shell (is that who you mean?) and a Day 3 C/G prospect.  But that's not on you for possibly making an educated guess about what the Bills will do, it's on the Bills for undervaluing the OL.  Signing Fournette or Elliot would make no sense (IMHO) because if we don't have a solid run blocking OL they won't help us.

BTW currently Matt Barkely is on the roster giving us 3 QB.

OP possibly assumes Barkley moves to practice squad, which doesnt exist, yet

So Neal's calling card is that he was said (at least a year ago-ish) to be the fastest player on the team.

He's a ST gunner (I think - where's @GunnerBill to set us straight on all the ST roles?) or at least filled in for Kumerow, he was taking 77% of the ST snaps.  He's our dime back, and Taron Johnson's backup at nickel.  So he's versatile.

Personally, I don't think the Bills see him as a looming decision.  $400 bonus really isn't much in the scheme of things.  Neal has 3 roles on the team, so why not bring him into camp and keep him until you have someone else you like better in at least 2 of 3?

I think the reason the Bills saved McKenzie's bonus is that they signed someone who can fill his role and they think will be better.

I don't see that as having happened with Neal.

Only to people who don't value ST which (checks notes) would not include Beane or McDermott

Where did you see he was the fastest guy on the team? Not even close. Ran a 4.56 at the combine. I saw an article last year listing the top 5 and pretty sure he wasn't named.  Jones,McKenzie,Diggs, John Brown and I'm blanking on the other .
