Thought it might be entertaining to post all offensive and defensive mock drafts.  Clearly, neither scenario will happen, but it gives a good idea of who the BPA or targets may be on offense or defense among us TBD drafters.  Here are mine from today on PFN:

    Offense:

    27.

    Darnell Wright

    OT Tennessee

    59.

    Marvin Mims Jr.

    WR Oklahoma

    91.

    Sam LaPorta

    TE Iowa

    130.

    Jarrett Patterson

    OC Notre Dame

    137.

    Andrew Vorhees

    OG USC

    205.

    Aidan O'Connell

    QB Purdue

    Defense:

    27.

    Bryan Bresee

    DT Clemson

    59.

    Mazi Smith

    DT Michigan

    91.

    Darius Rush

    CB South Carolina

    130.

    Jammie Robinson

    S Florida State

    137.

    Dorian Williams

    LB Tulane

    205.

    Dante Stills

    DT West Virginia

I like the Mims and Rush picks

If you can get this guy under 2 mil, it's a steal

Where would he play? You think he wants to come to Buffalo to sit on the bench? Post-draft maybe a better opportunity is available

Hyde has an Eric Wood type injury.

    Hamlin may never play again.

    Well, we will see

Maybe those are among the reasons RAPP was signed. I think FA safeties were disappointed in their market this year

The fact that he wanted to go.

Him. He pushed himself out. Possibly not getting the Bears job in particular.

Do you really believe that? If he was mad about not getting HC opportunities, why walk out on the Bills? Taking the year off hurts his chance of ever getting a head coaching gig. If its a not a health issued, he should honor his contract.

Depends who's available at each position.

I'd prefer a WR2. But if there's a run on them and there isn't someone Beane liked and there's someone like Dalton Kincaid or Michael Mayer on the board - I'd be happy with it.

Unless Beane likes Drew Sanders and he's on the board still, the value isn't there at 27 for a MLB. Trade up from 59 for Edmunds replacement, if MLB starts moving before then. Shouldn't cost much in this Draft.

Wonder how far they MIGHT be able to move up and which picks would they have to trade away.

Poyer and Hyde are 32 years old.  Poyer was gimping around with multiple injuries at the end of last season; Hyde feels great now, but he's recovering from neck surgery and until he's on the field giving and taking hits there will be a question in my mind, "can he still play?"

Rapp is a legit NFL starting-capable backup, no question there.  Good add.

Hamlin played better, I thought, as his playing time increased.  If he comes back at the same level, we're likely set save for a late round pick.  But I felt he was a marginal starter before the whole cardiac episode.  If he does come back will it be at the same level?  Don't know.

So do we need another guy?  If Hamlin comes back and is playing at the same level probably not.  If he comes back and is not playing at the same level, or doesn't come back, probably so.

Mayden is a PS guy from the Eagles going into his 4th season without ever having started a game

Zane Anderson is a special teamer who might be able to lay safety, we don't know.

Neither of them are guys I want to see starting at safety.

Lewis played some safety last season.  I don't wanna see that again.  YMMV.

o, add a safety NEXT year if you ae worried about depth. Don't forget the PLAYER'S PERSPECTIVE. What if HE sees all these names on the roster and wonders where he fits? Assuming the BILLS even want to talk to him.

We usually keep 9-10 OL on the 53. Generally, 4-5 OT's. We have Brown, Quessenberry, and Doyle (not counting Dawkins locked in at LT). My guess is we Draft our 4th OT around the same area we Drafted Brown to compete with Brown and at least replace Tommy Doyle.

As for Guard, we have Connor McGovern locked in at LG. I think Ryan Bates is safer at RG than most give him credit for. But it wouldn't shock me to see him usurped by David Edwards or a high Draft Pick.

I think a 1st Round OG is more likely than a 1st Round OT, but I still don't think that's very likely. I believe Round 1 will be a WR, LB, TE, or DL.

But I digress, I think we'll Draft 1 IOL. We have McGovern, Bates, Edwards, and Boettger right now (not counting Morse kicked in at Center). We generally keep 4-5 Interior Lineman. I think McG, Bates, and Edwards (and of course Morse at Center) are locked in.

So yeah, 1 OT and 1 IOL between Rounds 2 and 6.

Just a side note....Edwards was a RT in college

Are people really convincing themselves that McDermott somehow allowed Frazier to mismanage his defense for the last 5 years😂😂

So what is your theory on why Frazier is on leave  for all we know ,at full pay? Because of how good a job he did ?

Expect to be disappointed if you expect any change. Anyone that thinks Frazier wasn’t running the D exactly how McClappy wanted it ran is in for a shocker this year.

really hope I’m wrong. But we’ll find out I guess.

What do you think was the "final straw" that pushed Frazier out?

To the bolded, this is how I feel and I feel like I am being slammed for it.  Is this not a win now team? does this GM like drafting defense in early rounds? 1-2? Why not plug what many feel is a hole at RT? IDK if it would turn him off or not.. I think at that age at this point.. its just about getting the money and finishing his career on a strong note.

Have you noticed what might be a trend with the Bills free agent signings so far? Young FAs signing their second NFL contract.

What do you think he would cost? Beane likely will only pay close to minimum so as not to ness up the comp picks

  10. 29 minutes ago, mrags said:

He was defiantly pressured. They likely gave him the option to resign with dignity by “taking a year off” so they wouldn’t have to be the bad guys for firing him. McD has too much respect for Frazier to do that to him.

I just hope I’m wrong and McD gets something out of this defense that Frazier failed to do.

Nice guys fade into the sunset. Being away from the NFL for a season will severely limit Frazier's  opportunities.

I think McDermott dropped some breadcrumbs about that in a couple of his pressers.

Basically he said something to the effect that you can have the same playbook and plan and it will still look different with two different coaches calling it.

I don't think the fundamental scheme or the playbook will change, but I think way its implemented will look more different than some think.  When you hire a guy, you can't micromanage him, and in general over the course of a season, McD was getting satisfactory results from Frazier's D so had no reason to micromange.

I don't think the D was being called exactly how McDermott would have called it in various in-game situations, especially the first or second time we've faced an opponent or when the same opponent throws something we weren't expecting at us.

I also feel that Frazier was philosophically slower to make in-game adjustments than McDermott is.

The in-game adjustments,or lack thereof, were disappointing at times. And I'm sure Sean spoke with Frazier at halftime if there was something he didn't like.

  12. 1 hour ago, mrags said:

    Exactly.

And…. To think that even if he allowed Frazier to mismanage his own defense, he didn’t fire Frazier after the 13 second debacle. If that’s the case, then it makes the case for firing McD even greater. Thy he allowed his own DC to screw up as bad as he did and didn’t clean it up when he had all the reason in the world to do it. Yet he didn’t. Why?!? Because Frazier did exactly what McD wanted him to do.

Can anyone explain Frazier’s one-year 'sabbatical"?  I believe he was pressured and likely getting his full salary. Does it sound like McDermott was 100% satisfied with the defense during the playoffs?

I guess that is a bit of a concern for me

  14.  I'm wondering what defensive clues we get from the draft. Jack Campbell LOOKS like Edmunds and seems to have strong leadership traits, recognition skills, making defensive calls, etc. If Bills pick him,I would expect the  alignment  to remain similar to what we have seen. But if they select Sanders,or Nolan Smith,or possibly even Simpson? That might signal a change?

There was a bunch of discussion on this in another thread when the move was announced.

One of the best pieces on this was done by Cover1, looking back carefully at the defenses McDermott ran in Carolina.

I don't know if you're going to see any changes in personnel, but the consensus thinking is that McDermott uses his personnel in a much more aggressive way, for example press man coverage and double A gap blitzes by the linebackers, more switching around on DL (having the DE play inside and blitz the A gaps for example) - always trying to figure out the protection rules a team uses and use those rules against them.

Yes,thanks I saw this.  The most in depth analysis I have seen. Not so much a "schematic" change but more about "style, attitude, violence, and aggression". Hopefully optimizing defensive personnel.

I remember the one time McDermott took the play calling during half-time and it showed a different team...I hope we get the same....The main issue is that this team is dependent on generating pass rush by its front-four -  Groot, Basham, Epenesa and Oliver.   This group has been vastly underwhelming.

Do you expect more blitzing, especially if Miller is out?

We'll see.  I just hope it's more aggressive.  Even if it results in a worse statistical outcome.  We've had a top ranked D for several years now that couldn't stop anyone when it counted most.  I'll gladly give up more points in the regular season if we see more big/game changing plays from the D.  Mostly I never want to see a soft zone again as long as I live

"Aggressive " is the consensus I've seen so far. I don't remember if he used many exotic looks in Carolina.

  17. With Frazier semi-retired and McD calling the defense...how much different will it look?

Less Nickel? Taron Johnson playing some safety?

Rapp playing a big nickel, in a  three-safety lineup?

4-3 scheme, with a more traditional "middle" linebacker ? I suppose the draft will shed some light.
