Dawson Knox is paid like a star player.  He has certainly flashed star talent. And he seems like a wonderful human being. I feel like the Bills don't get the expected production of out his salary level because he needs to help in pass protection too much.  A couple of questions which I am sure the more technical football analysts at TBD can help answer.

1)If we simply add a solid tackle, and handle protections that way, does Knox automatically become more productive
2)If we added a big blocking TE like Darnell Washington, would that make Know able to be more productive as the pass catching TE/someitme slot receiver

3)If we added both a solid tackel and a blocking TE like Darnell Washington, could Knox's pass catching protection grow to the Kelce/Gronk level?

I feel like Knox is a break out star waiting to happen, but if it doesn't this year, it probably never will.

I don't expect to add a TE that will take targets away from Diggs. If you run MORE 2 TE sets,I don't assume that will lead to more scoring .

Perhaps a serious upgrade at RT would do the trick.

Trade Ed to his hometown Houston for picks 65 and 161 and 201.

If Robinson somehow is there at 27 trade with Saints for 29 and 71.

Then...I put my trust in McBeane.

    Picks  29

               40

               59

               65

               71

               130

               137

               161

               201

               205

Plenty of ammo for Beane to do his wizardry....plus an extra 10.7

I thought about Oliver for BOTH of Houston 3rd rounders; 65 and 73?

You mean you don't believe Beane that the answer at MLB is on the roster, or McDermott's speech about how Tyrell, Terrel, and Baylon deserve a chance to compete for the starting MLB role?

It's really hard to understand why the Bills drafted Bernard in Round 3 if they didn't believe he could start in some role

I'm not convinced Beane actually said,or meant " the answer at MLB is on the roster". No way is he limiting himself to those 3. Sure they will compete, but probably against another addition.

Hopefully he doesn't put himself on IR diving at air again.

Bring back shaq on the cheap too. Then the only hole on defense is MLB and can otherwise go all offense in the draft.

Beane won't ' go all offense in draft.  Most of the DTs are on expiring contracts. Secondary depth was challenged last year  and you can't have too many corners in the AFC. I would also like an OLB/Edge to back up Von.

  5. You must have too much time on your hands .

We don't have to accept the premise that this is a "weak draft", Beane has to work smart; add rookie contributors and development players ,and optimize value on cheap rookie deals.

I see you picked multiple Edge,WR and CB  but not MLB,a critical need.

This draft has tackles and tight ends that could help the Bills but you ignore them.

Even a day 3 RB could make the roster as a special teamer  for example.

You  like to play with draft simulators but don't seem to care about improving the roster. Fail...

  6. I think a trade would be the last resort, because you have to not only take on a contract (that might be fiscally risky) AND give up resources (draft picks or players.)

Free agency is just "spending money" so it would be great to sign a team-friendly deal on another young, veteran WR.

Depending on what they do prior to the draft, I think WR is absolutely the #1 or #2 pick (the other being MLB)

Yep. Josh will be a Bill the next 10-12 years. McD may not make it past next year.

Terry is writing far bigger checks to Josh than McD.

Josh does what Josh wants as long as we're winning.

No guarantee he is here 10-12 years. I think there are 5-6 left on his deal. If things go bad in Buffalo and Josh is still healthy and productive, he could earn another major deal.

    Great discussion/post.

There's a handful of these "undersized" LBs coming out this year, who are athletic but are they fits at MLB in our scheme?

To me, we just drafted a similar player (maybe not as talented) in Bernard LY.

Big unknown what McDermott is looking to do at this position.  Personally, I'd be surprised if we draft this style of player.

What's so "great" about it? Milano, Bernard and Spector are similar types. If Bills draft LBs it should MLB or Edge...

I'm not understanding why a 2nd round pick in his 5th year, just entering his prime, would sign with a team that's already set at its two starting safety positions.

It must mean he either didn't have better options elsewhere on the market, OR...perhaps this is sort of a one year "let's see if you're the future at this position" type signing. See how he does as the third safety on the field and how he picks up the system, and then maybe he replaces Hyde next season.

Huh. I'm happy to sign safety depth, but a little bit perplexed.

Edit: Or maybe he just stinks. That's definitely a possibility.

Because the 2 safeties are in their 30s, coming off injuries with contracts expiring soon.

I'm gonna cut him some slack for going back to his old team.  Doesn't hurt that Washington state lacks an income tax, either.

Yeah but athletes probably pay "business and occupation " taxes. And they are liable for income taxes in states they play in. The states get their funds from you, some how.

I would be more worried about Diggs thinking it’s gonna take away his well earned touches and keeping him happy

That is certainly a valid concern. I think the Bills have been fortunate that Diggs has been been so durable. Imagine if he got hurt and missed a few games...and you still had Hopkins out there.
