  1. Count me as one who likes this move...but also one who is also still a little mystified by the universal hate that seems to be directed at Thigpen. Let's face it, Gailey likes athletic guys, and he loves to have gadget players at his disposal. VY falls into that category....if Fitz plays well, and doesn't get hurt, I get the feeling that Gailey will still find some way to get VY into the game, in some capacity. I don't think he would be trying to find ways to get Tyler Thigpen in to the game... this is kind of like the whole Tebow/Jets thing...two very gifted athletes, who may not have conventional QB talents, but have had a knack for winning more games than they lose. Also, think it should be pointed out (it probably has been, but I can't read this whole thread), that the Bills offense, and Gailey, are likely as good a match VY as there is in the NFL. Supposed to go for dinner with friends tomorrow night...I might push for "Vince Young's Steak House"!
  2. The C's are definitely more experienced, and know how to win in the playoffs...what Kevin Garnett did last night was, honeslty, astounding. The problem the Celtics have right now, is consistancy. I don't see all their games during the regular season, but I would venture to guess, I saw, at least half of them, if not a little more...when they were good in this series against the Hawks, they looked better than they had all year...but, then, they always have at least one quarter per game, where they just can't get anything right...they will be on fire, shooting, and just go completely cold, as a unit...I suppose that happens to every team, most games...but it is hard to watch...a hungry team, like the 76ers, if they paly it right, can rip the game away from the C's during one of those down periods...Hawks came close to doing it to them last night, but Garnett just found his youth again...and Rondo is sneaky good. Pierce and Allen can be dominant offensively, or just diappear at times...but they never stop palying defense. What the Celtics can always rely on though, is their defense. They are a poor rebounding team, but play pretty tenacious D, 1-12...they have to, to be on this team. Even Ray Allen, the sharp shooter, will go all out...I think the Celtics will win...but it isn't going to be a sweep...it will go 6 games, maybe even 7. I wouldn't be surprised to see Philly blow the Celtics out in one of the first two games...but the Celtics always respond. I love the playoffs as well! Good luck!
  3. In the NBA, in particular, the regular season and playoffs are very different. My Celtics have fared very well against the Heat in the regular season...not so much in the playoffs. When you are playing, and preparing to play the same team for two weeks straight, it is harder to get an edge on team, unless you are just better. For whatever reason the 76ers beat the Bulls, you have to give Doug Collins and his squad credit. After a surprisingly great start, they kind of backed their way into the playoffs, but were prepared to pounce on an opportunity when it presented itself against the Bulls.
  4. Bring it on!!!!!
  5. I will find it again, but the Sabres were in the top half of attendance as a road team, and near the top in home attendance...I suspect that all the Buffalo transplants all over the country make them a decent attraction on the road. Whenever you see them on tv, playing teams in the sun belt, it almost always sounds like a home game. Also, WNY is one of the top NHL hockey tv viewing areas for national games. As I recall, Phoenix was dead last in attendance this year, despite having a very good season. I realize the Sabres had lean times as well, but when you consider the size of the market, and the fact that, in reality, the team has had very little success on ice, they are still a remarkable draw.
  6. That's a clever line, which we have seen used over and over in this thread...but, if you think about the "skill set" that Edwards and Young bring to the table, they are pretty different. VY may be a bit immature for his age, but, honestly, if he is going to work out anywhere, I think Buffalo, with Gailey, and Gailey's offense, seems to be about as ideal a match as you could get. Andy Reid runs, essentially, a west-coast offense in Philly, as his base offense. Short, accurate passes are not VY's strong suit...Edwards may be a better fit for them. Gailey likes that "dual threat" guy...for all the criticism of Young, there is little doubt that the guy is a great athlete...he can throw the deep ball, and can run. If he does sign in Buffalo, and hasn't matured, and causes locker room issues, I also have little doubt that Gailey would be afraid to cut him. I suspect, any contract VY signs with the Bills will be of the 1-year variety.
  7. Be happy where you are...the further you cement your status here, they will just ask you to restructure, take a pay cut that is more "salary cap friendly"...and when you can't post anymore, they will just toss you aside for the new guy! There is no such thing as loyalty here...they'll hate you if your clever, and they despise a fool.
  8. It's no secret that the NHL, as a league, is pretty much carried by about half the teams in the NHL...there is marginal interest in the game, outside of areas where there is no team. Franchises like the Phoenix Coyotes, always near the bottom (if not the very bottom) of league in attendance, ...maybe a Cup solidifies their base, but, I am pretty sure Carolina's numbers have dipped to their low levels again...these teams don't draw all that well in their home towns, and are not much of a draw on the road. So, while I can appreciate the hundreds of die-hard fans many of these teams have, their success does little to enhance the league.
  9. And acting like one, since at least Sept. 03, 2001!
  10. This post is a perfect example of PPP "jumping the shark"... congrats Dante!
  11. The fans in Winnipeg went 15 years without a team so that Phoenix could have a team...Winnipeg Jets were amongst the top in attendance in their previous incarnation...Phoenix has been near the bottom, if not the bottom in attedence for most of their existence...I get your point, I am sure there are a few die-hard Phoenix Coyote fans, their devotion to their team shouldn't be discounted...but you don't think a Cup winning team would be more appreciated in one of the other cities?
  12. Holy crap...after all these years, I thought you were in California...all my negative energy has been misdirected! Tonawands-----Austin, TX
  13. I thought they picked him up late last season, from the Rams practice squad.
  14. My wife and I were sitting, talking about our finances. We have really been struggling, trying to stretch a paycheck. She says to me "you are spending too much money, every month on beer. You have to give it up!" Then, I'm looking at the credit card bills, and see an $85 charge from Neiman Marcus. "What's this?" I ask her... "Oh, I purchased some make-up" she says. "So, I have to give up beer, but you can spend $85 on make-up? Why am I the one who always have to give things up?" I ask. "Honey, I have to have make-up, so I can look pretty for you" she says. I says "What the hell do you think the beer is for?"
  15. So, you are not really a Bills fan I take it? I realize, favorite vs least favorite is subjective, but your logic, from your explanations, are lost on me. I happen to like all the guys on both of your lists...how Marv Levy and Darryl Talley could merit mention on a least favorite is beyond me...you say Marv was overrated, yet Ted Marchiabroda is "the architect", presumably, of the Bills Super Bowl era offenses? That totally discounts that Macrhiabroda's head coach (the "overrated" Marv Levy) gave TM the green light to allow Jim Kelly to run a non-conventional version of the already non-convetnional no-huddle offense, calling his own plays. While I will agree that Levy was sub-par (to put it mildly) as a GM, give him credit for realizing, rather quickly, that he wasn't the right man to steer that dysfunctional ship, as a GM, and getting out, before it got worse. To me, Marv Levy is one of the genuinely greatest elements in Buffalo Bills history. One of the rare instances that the owner going on the cheap paid off...the right man, at the right time. Though they lost all 4 Super Bowl appearences under Levy, I don't think there are many men who could have led that team there, that many times, consecutively. You hear it when those guys talk about Levy, he was almost a father figure to those guys, someone they had the ultimate respect for, and didn't want to let down...all the years, the only player I can ever recall having any issue with Levy was Fred Smerlas...and lets face it, those teams were comprised of some pretty immature men, with big egos. Lesser coaches than Levy would have had a difficult time pulling off what he did, IMO...
  16. The Smothers Brothers?
  17. Okay...so, it is down to a LA Kings/Phoenix Coyotes final in the West, and a combination of either Philly/New Jersey (probably NJ) verses Washington or NY Rangers in the East... Dan Briere is the only thing keeping me interested at this point...I can't stand any of these teams...what kind of crazy, mixed-up world when the Flyers would be the least offensive cup winners? btw- suspension for Griroux (sp?)is kind of BS...I don't think he was going for the head...the head was going for his shoulder.
  18. No, pretty sure it was against the Redskins or the Chiefs...RJ running to the right sideline, threw across his body to the left sideline...perfect pass.
  19. DML- I don't think anyone is booking flights for New Orleans just yet. And, I have been as down on this franchise as anyone in the last 5 years...but you have to admit, this off season, whether everything works out the way we hope, it is hard not to feel like something is different for the first time in quite a while. Now, like you, I am cautious, because I remember, when Tom Donohoe was running the show, we had some pretty great off-seasons as well... but, for the first time, it feels like the franchise is allowing us to dream, rather than tempering our enthusiasim about everything. Nothing wrong with trying to enjoy it. You are right, we need only to look at the Sabres as a local, cautionary tale. However, even with them, as disappointing as this season was, the committment from management/ownership still gives me a pretty optimistic feeling about that franchise...a team that is doing what it will take to get better...rather than one that is just existing, for the sake of existing. This off-season, the Bills have come a long way in that department, baby! Re-signing guys (Steve Johnson, Fred Jackson, etc) who, just two years ago, in the same situation would have been as good as gone, IMO. There are those who will claim that there is nothing new, that the Bills have always been mindful of success, rather than dollars...to them, I call BS. But, for whatever reason (I am not going to look the gift horse in the mouth) this off-season, it feels like Mr Wilson has given Buddy Nix the green-light to "go for it". This kind of stuff doesn't happen often, so why not enjoy it?
  20. Yeah I know he sucked...but he wasn't the worst QB we have had since 1996. In fact, if you ranked them, he would be closer to the top than the bottom.
  21. For all the griping that folks to about WGR55, and I know it isn't perfect, I think they have really stepped up to the plate in covering the Bills, since obtaining the rights to their games. I also think Schoop, who takes the most ****, is probably just a little too smart for his own good...he has a very personal take on most things, and sometimes, I think it just takes him too long to make his point, so people write him off as being an a-hole. I don't mind him at all...
  22. If I recall, this was the infamous game where "some idiotic individual, obviously liquroed up" tried to tight-rope his way across Rich Stadium...caused a big delay in the game. Cosell went off on a tirade about the fans in Buffalo, and, IIRC, received death threats the next time the MNF crew showed up in Buffalo. Thanks (to Chandler too!) for the Shaw info...kind of miss the days when we didn't know all the off the field stuff! Have heard stories about racial problems in the locker room over the years, but never about Shaw.
  23. I have been listening, and I haven't heard them say this was bad in any way...I guess some people "hear" what they want to hear.
  24. Well, I am thinking it was the marriage thing...the look Don gives Megan, when he is watching her cooking...like he is kind of disappointed in her...she is turing into Betty? They kind of remind you that Don met Betty when she was a model for a fur coat ad. Actress/model not a big difference, perhaps? Betty always seemed like a woman who never grew up, but well educated...Megan is smart, but her ambition is to be an actress...I think Don is definitely disappointed in his wife...maybe realizing she is too young for him... I have been saying for weeks, I also think there have been an unusual number of suicide references this season...Pete seems like the obvious candidate. The guy falling out of the window in the opening credits may look like a comic book Don Draper, but is it just a generic ad man? Pete really wanted an office with a window...and he mentions to the life insurance salesmen (whose wife he latches on to, for one last grasp at happiness?) that his current insurance even has a provision for death in case of suicde, after 6 years...it may be too obvious, but Pete seems headed to that office window.
  25. Vintage 1975 Bills...many of the TBD favorites are on board for this TD drive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gO2wjqR37rA
