  1. That hit looked like a helmet to helmet no? If that was Hughes, they would have thrown the flag.
  2. I hope not. This needs more attention than it would get buried in the big thread. Keep this open mods.
  3. https://usatthebiglead.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/ritojm2.pdf This is the whole shebang. I read these when the story was unfolding a few years ago. My opinion before reading - Incognito is scum. My opinion after reading - wow, the guy is getting crucified for literally no reason. Are the texts vulgar? Of course, but I would hardly call them bullying, it goes back and forth and seems mostly to be in good fun. You can see at the very end Incognito's texts after the story broke. "I need you buddy I'm getting killed in the media." I love the signing. Please read the texts before passing judgement.
  4. Hasn't it already been changed to ten yards from the spot of the foul if the hold is past the line of scrimmage? As in a 50 yard run wouldn't come all the way back if there was a hold at the end of it. I could swear I've seen this called at a few points thus far this season.
  5. Just saw this on NFL Now. I think we all assumed we would lose CJ, but the prospect of getting Jackson back in just a month has to be good news.
  6. Going from 9 to 1 would cost 1650 points on the draft trade value chart. That means giving up next years 1st (~1250) and a second rounder (~400). I don't see that happening.
  7. Two solutions that I see - Goodell's "suggestion" would be dumb IMO, doesn't change much. 1. Move it back. Essentially make it a thirty or thirty five years field goal try. 2. Narrow the goalposts, not drastically, 2-5 feet perhaps.
  8. I think you give them another year. While next years QB draft class will be very good, 2015 may be equally so. You really can't judge EJ or Maronne on their first seasons in the NFL - especially EJ, who missed all of training camp plus another 5 games.
  9. One of the worst losses in recent memory. This team is cursed, I swear.
  10. I think it is a very plausible scenario unfortunately - depending on when Ralph dies, the team could be gone either during the short period (I believe seven years from now) where the penalty drops for breaking the lease or after the lease expires. As a Bills fan, It is hard to think about. I don't live in Buffalo. What is the word around town? Does anyone think there is a local group that can legitimately buy the team? Will the western NY born commissioner allow a move? What will it be like there if / when it happens? While I hate the idea, if they are going to move, Toronto would seem like a better destination than LA. What if they kept the Bills name and logos? Lots of questions there, but I am genuinely curious what you guys think.
  11. Everyone that's talking about the distance...A flight from the East coast to the UK is nearly the same as a flight from the East coast to the West coast. If you're talking about Oakland going out there, it's 12 hours. That is much less of a burden for a team compared to playing on Sunday then playing again on Thursday night. Are they trying to build support for a European expansion of the NFL? Highly doubtful. This is about attracting European fans and persuading European TV networks to buy rights for NFL games, imo. But if they were crazy enough to move a team to London, don't think the distance would be such a deal breaker.
  12. Man, did Tuel make me appreciate EJ. He looks like Payton Manning out there in comparison. If he misses any more time, this season is done. That said, It isn't Tuel's fault. He is not a second string QB. This is on the management. Could be a lot worse.
  13. The game is there to be won. A touchdown drive wins it. It's Tuel time.
  14. This one is going to hurt. Winnable game if Tuel wasn't behind center. He looks hopeless out there and his lack of ability has made it impossible to run. Need a turnover here if they want to have any shot. Five picks last week, just need one here boys.
  15. I really though EJ was coming right back in after watching him scurrying around and riding the stationary bike. Come back EJ, please.
  16. I was very happy with EJs play and his exuberance and energy on the field. His stats would have been much better without a couple key drops and a few big plays being called back with penalties. (It was almost like the officials had a certain gameplan in mind themselves! imagine that). The defense was pretty damn good imo against one of the best QBs in the history of the NFL and without their two best players in the secondary. Amendola was just a monster on their winning drive, I couldn't believe that he was holding on to all of those passes over the middle. But the clock management and use of Spiller was really atrocious. There is a time to run a speed offense, and there is a time to slow things down. If Doug and Hackett didn't get that difference drilled into their heads today they will soon enough with more winnable games turning into losses. I was left shaking my head with that last offensive drive for the Bills, and I knew then the game was lost. As for Spiller, he is not a power back. They basically ran the same play over and over again, driving him off tackle. Spread the field, give him space to run with screens and outside runs. Obviously you can spread some of the blame on the blocking but not all. These are rookie coaches, and we have to give them a long leash. I just hope we see them learning on the job rather than them being stubborn and trying to stick with the flawed aspects of their game today. All in all, it was a really tough loss but it's hard to come away from that one too depressed. Their are bright things ahead for this team. The coaches just need to adapt and not get in the way.
  17. I think EJ has a chance to play. Well see how things shake out; they are going to want to have EJ practicing at 100% for at least the week prior I'd imagine. If he can do that I'd be surprised if he doesn't get the start. My OP was a bit convoluted so let me try to summarize my thoughts briefly. Patience will be needed this season by the bucket full. I know it's hard to be patient after the past 15 years but y'all are going to have to try. We want to see this team improve as the season goes on. We want to see EJ show that he at least has the potential to be a top flight QB. We want to see good things from the young WRs, LBs, OL, an DBs. Who knows, things could click fast and the bills could make the playoffs this season. But if they don't, that does not mean that EJ sucks, or that the new coaching staff can't cut it in the NFL, or any number of other things. This is a process. Now carry on with the doom and gloom.
  18. Why don't you read the season previews that every sports publication has been putting out this past week. They all have a common message: "rebuilding year" "don't judge ths team by their 2013 record" "Marrone tasked with rebuilding a young team with future potential" and so on. If you really think that this rebuild is going to take one draft and one offseason you are delusional.
  19. This board has gone from unrealistically obtimistic to ridiculously pessimistic because of three main things: 1. EJ Manuel is hurt and will miss the first game against the Patriots. starting in his stead will be Tuel 2. Gilmore will miss 6-8 weeks. 3. The Bills were blown out in a preseason game. Now lets just look at each of these things more closely. 1. The Bills aren't winning this game with or without Manuel. There is nothing to indicate that he'll miss anymore time either. 2. Yes, this is a serious blow, but 6-8 weeks means 4-6 games. He will be back in October. He is not out for the season. His career is not over. 3. Preseason games, especially for young teams and rookie coaches, are about testing plays and strategies and determining who to cut and who to retain. Lookup how the bills did in the preseason in the early 90s. Most importantly, though, is this: The bills aren't going to do much this season. If they get very lucky, they could contend late into the season, but that would be a surprise. If you allowed yourself to think otherwise because of 2 preseason games, I don't know what to tell you. This season is about EJ developing towards his ceiling (which he will have plenty of games to do). It is about the coaching staff getting their feet wet and seeing what works and what doesn't. It is about the other rookies and young players stepping up and succeeding or falling back and ultimately being replaced. This season is about 2014, 2015, and beyond. But say if they do surprise this year and play well in September, Gilmore will be back in OCTOBER. Even if the bills were supposed to be contenders this year, his loss for 4-6 weeks would not kill the season. Step back from the ledge, please, because this board has become unreadable over the past few days.
  20. Out 6-8 weeks, with 2 weeks remaining before the first game. Tha means he will miss 4-6 games. Really disappointing, but a lot of you are talking like he's out for the season. He'll be back in early October. Step back from the ledge.
  21. I would have rather they drafted OL or DB with this pick but clearly Marrone and Hackett are going to bring something different to the table this year, and if they think this guy can make plays then I'm ok with the pick. I think the offense is going to be dynamic in a lot of ways. It's been awhile since we have had anything to be excited about on that side of the ball. Imagine Spiller's potential when the opposing defense has 2-3 legit WRs and a QB capable of running well to worry about, not to mention a guy like Goodwin running end arounds and screens. Chan tried to do that stuff with Smith. This guy brings it to another level. I'd imagine he can also be developed into an elite kick / punt returner. Draft two OLinemen and 2 DBs tomorrow and ill be happy with this draft. In reality it all is going to depend on EJ. I like what I've seen on him and I think it's past time for the bills to luck out on a QB.
