  1. Something else I was thinking about....given Marrone's offensive style, I think we'll see a lot of Plays where Fred Jackson lines up as the 3rd or 4th WR for quick slants and screens.
  2. There seems to be quite a bit of panic here regarding next season's wide reciever corps. I feel more optimistic about this than most, it seems. Today, I think the depth chart would have to read Stevie at #1 and Graham at #2. Is this ideal? no. But if that is how things shape up in training camp i won't be too disappointed. Graham frankly was not played enough last year (nor accurately or otherwise thrown to enough) for anyone to have a definitive opinion on whether he is a legit NFL starter or a fringe depth guy. We don't know, and we won't know unless he gets some playing time. 2013 is going to be a year to rebuild, develop young players and test / develop a coaching style. For a lot of guys, it's going to be a year where they are thrown into the water to see if they sink or swim. This is a good thing. This, along with the poor QB situation, is why the Bills haven't (and won't imo) be signing any big name free agents WRs. That doesn't mean there aren't some decent guys available to round out the roster, however. Some names I think that are worth considering include Ramses Barden, Austin Collie, Julian Edelman, and Chaz Schilens - guys who are young with some upside who will come cheap and add depth while being serviceable enough to be in there on most plays. Someone like Darrius Heyward-Bey isn't out of the question either. The real possibilities lie in the draft and this one has a pretty solid group of receivers. After signing Kolb, I think the Bills will try hard to trade back into the 20s, netting them extra picks in this year's draft and / or next years. A guy like Cordarrelle Paterson probably won't last past the teens - and if the bills stay at #8 I'd be satisfied with them picking him there - but other players like Tavon Austin, Keenan Allen, Justin Hunter, and DeAndre Hopkins should be there in the 20s, if not at #40. This is why trading back is so important. This team really needs to pick up a WR, LB, and QB in the first two rounds. This draft should be about looking ahead to 2014 and beyond, and picking one of the above listed guys would go a long way to solidifying the WR position. If Graham thrives this year, the WR position could well be a strength looking forward.
  3. I would be furious if they pick Glennon at 8. Geno I would be ok with, Barkley I could tolerate as well, but taking Glennon in the first when he and others will be there at 40 is ludicrous.
  4. Also forgot to mention that they could probably trade from 8 to 22 - 25 and get that teams 2014 1st rounder and this year's 3rd rounder. They would still get an extra pick in this years draft and have 2 1st rounders in 2014, putting them in great position to draft another QB then. I love the idea of the Bills having say Nassib or Manuel and one of next seasons top QB prospects going into the 2014 season.
  5. I like this signing a lot. He will end up costing half what Fitz would have cost and will be at least as effective (more so IMO). But more importantly, This gives the bills flexibility in the draft. No longer do they NEED to draft a starting QB, nor do they need to start the rookie right away, regardless of whether he's ready. Obviously, they should still draft a QB as Kolb isnt the next Jim Kelly, but I doubt they reach for one with the 8th pick now, and that's a good thing. Assuming that Geno is gone at #8, I'd be very happy if they pick WR or LB in the first, best QB available at 40, and WR or LB (whichever position wasn't taken in the 1st) in the 3rd round. Round out the draft with a CB, G, and another LB Even better would be trading back. Trading say from 8 to 20 would give them two second and two third rounders, giving them 5 picks in the first three rounds.
  6. I'm a life long Bills fan and just joined this board recently. Let's look at the facts regarding quarterbacks. The 2013 daft class is considered to be extremely weak. There is really only one guy universally regarded as being worthy of a first round pick: Geno Smith. And even he is not a sure thing by any means. If he falls to eight, I hope they take him, but I seriously doubt that will happen. Meanwhile, the Bills have a plethora of other needs. LB, WR, Guard, DE, CB, TE. Realistically, the bills are not going to be contenders in 2013. While I have high hopes for Marrone and his staff, there will certainly be some growing pains in his first stint as an nfl head coach. The number one priority after the draft should be locking up CJ Spiller to a long term deal. Before that, they should focus their 1st and 2nd round picks on other positions of need. Take a QB in the 3rd or 4th round. Maybe they get lucky and he turns into the franchise guy, but in the meantime start the season with T Jackson as the starter. They will have a top 10, more likely top 5 pick in the 2014 draft which is considered to have a much stronger QB class. Draft your franchise guy then. We have been waiting nearly two decades for a new franchise QB. What's another year? Why take a complete gamble at 8 with a QB (unless it's Geno...he is the only guy worth drafting that high) when they can get a player at another position of need that is nearly a sure thing?
