  1. I'm sure it's been brought up but the Bills offered a contract that would make him the highest paid safety for the first 3 years, front loading the deal at about 30 million over 3 years. He turned it down. The man does not want to be in Buffalo, and the Bills don't want him around for 10 games at 8.7 million. We will need a new safety.
  2. TBH this has been a topic on the board for a while now, about these guys wanting to play LT and blah blah blah.... You do what coach tells you to do, or you ride the bench. Lets just get this out of the way. Rookie first round contracts are not the insane/obscene problems of the past. Whats the guy going to do.... Not play a down for 4 years and then magically get scooped up by a team after being 4 years rusty and showing that they are completely selfish and won't do as they are told or asked? Not to mention this is the NFL. People get injured all the time, the chance to play LT might happen, and if they show to be a massive improvement you can always adjust accordingly.
  3. I am almost positive at this point that the Bills will trade down from the 9th spot but no further down than the spot before the phins/jets (unless someone gives them some ridiculous trade that i think only the browns or niners could even offer. They are just too many players that could be drafted this year and make an immediate impact. If we had an additional second and third it would be amazing. Just do you're own mocks with 2 extra picks.
  4. I read an article somewhere that Ebron had pretty poor hand, also that the bills really liked the TE from ND
  5. So lets be clear on this: 1) We have the money for Byrd, we do, this is not up for debate. 2) We would want a kings ransom to trade him this year. However that is not to say that it's not possible The Browns might be in play here. I'm not sure where I read it, someone possibly quoted the Bills as not wanting anything lower than the 35th pick for Byrd. 3) The Bills are not afraid to tag him a second time for the 8+ million. Even if he only plays 10 games. IMO, there is a 70% chance at this point that Byrd is Tagged. As has been noted, one of the problems with the bills has been the change over at DC. Now, I doubt that Def Scheme would make any difference to Byrd's ability to play but i'm sure the Bills want to see that he can be as effective in the new scheme before shelling out the big bucks. He really is an Elite Player at his position. He does deserve to be paid as one. Does he need to be the top paid one? I can't really see that. I would say top 3 though. They should make him close to the highest paid Safety and make a few easy to obtain incentives based on his stats that would push him over the top. I don't see why this hasn't been discussed.
  6. While i was initially on the draft an OL with the 9th pick, there were 2 major factors for that: 1) Sammy Watkins was not there ( this is very important) 2) We didn't trade back. We are all in agreement that LG and RT are bad and that our WR is unproven at best. We also all agree that this draft has an extremely deep OL and WR Class as well as upgrades to be had at TE in the later rounds. While many are enamored with Ebron, I simply am not. I do not see him as any better than ASJ. Moving on to the point of this post: The best thing the Bills can do is trade back from the 9th spot, ESPECIALLY if Watkins is still there. This is going to cause some commotion I'm sure, but let me finish. Watkins is the best NFL ready talent at WR in the draft, and it kills me to say pass on him. The teams coming after us, all the way up to the jets and phins are all looking for OL, DL, CB/Safetys, and MAYBE a WR(lions would probably kill for Watkins). We will have a chance to trade back and pick up some draft picks. Considering who we are leaving on the board and who teams may be jumping ahead of, i see no reason for teams to not take trading their first, giving us their second and swapping thirds(giving us a third). Would you rather have Watkins at 9, or Mike Evans/Kelvin Benjamin/Or someone else at 13-18 with an additional 2nd and either additional 3rd or better third? Another thing to consider would also be to roll the dice and trade back in an attempt to get Watkins a few picks later, however that is unlikely because i can simply not see the lions passing on him if he was on the board.
  7. I still just don't see us taking a TE at 9, or even with our first pick. I'll say it again, A catching TE means nothing if the QB is on his back. That being said 2 players the Bills do seem high on are: Zach Martin and “The Nicklas kid, the tight end from Notre Dame was an impressive specimen." Doug Whaley quote That being said, I will do a much larger post on possible draft picks and where I feel we can take players based on certain draft scenarios.
  8. I thought he looked good at the combine. He also stood out as extremely physically imposing.
  9. Up to this point, I have been a very stout advocate of taking one of the OT's with the 9th pick should they fall to us. Watching the combine, seeing what teams are saying and looking at, and re-evaluating some players I have come to the following conclusion: Trading back from the 9th spot is the BEST thing we can do, however, I believe we can and should not go any further than Dallas/Baltimore unless someone sells us the farm for our spot. Ideally this allows us to remain in-front of the Jets and Dolphins. who both have needs that could mirror ours. The further back we go the hard it can become for us. While i would not mind Ebron, I just can't take him with the 9th pick, and I would still have a hard time taking him with a top 20 pick. Do we nee a TE, yes. Does it need to be Ebron, I just don't see him making that big of a difference on the Bills team. Chandler led the Bills because he was the dump off option. Anyone with good hands could be an upgrade there. ASJ was unable to go at the combine which worries me, however, C.J. FIEDOROWICZ looked pretty good and could be an upgrade to Chandler. My hopes at this point would be to trade back, get a few more draft picks, and take players that while not the top of the class, are still upgrades to what we have right now at extremely important positions.
  10. Just to get it off the table, Byrd will either be a Bill next season or we will have 2 first round draft picks for him. We can easily tag him again for 8.3 million, although tagging him a third year in a row would be far too expensive. Moving on, while i was reading this post I started thinking about teams that might want to trade up with us. It hit me that we have not really fully evaluated the trading up or down that might happen before us. A quick example: Texans (who maybe don't value any of the QBs more than another) trade their #1 for Cleveland's #4 and #26. Rams aren't looking for a QB so if they value the top 3 Qbs to be roughly the same, they not only get 1 of the 3, but also pick up an additional first round pick. Another: While the Rams probably have their hearts set on someone, The Jags and Browns both are probably looking for QBs/Clowney. The Rams could trade back with the Browns, dropping back 2 spots, easily get what they are looking for, and pick up a second and third rounder. Or have them pay the price or 4 + 26 for the 2 spot jump (or an additional 1 next yr instead of 26) I think we need to really sit down and look at realistic needs of the teams ahead of us, and those that share needs of players up to our 9th pick that might want to jump the pack, or think they are 1 player away from being the next superbowl champs.
  11. I was watching the guys do the gauntlet this morning, and I have to say, while Mike Evans is a very big guy, I felt like Kelvin Benjamin looked HUGE. I don't know what it was, but man did he look big.
  12. I fully expect the bills to trade back from the 9th spot after watching the work out today. None of the TE's blew me away in the likes of say Vernon Davis. Trading back, we could and should probably look to get Matin or Su'a-Filo and then Morgan Moses. Something to think about with the Byrd Contract. The "non-exclusive" tag is just that; other teams can negotiate long-term contract offers with the player until July 15. If the player signs one of these offers, his original club can either match that offer, or allow the player to leave for his new club—and be compensated with two first-round draft picks from the new club. There are a lot of rumors and smoke screens running around, especially with Cleveland at this point. I have not really looked at this option more than the last 5 minutes due to some mention of the Browns being interested and the Bills not letting Byrd leave for free. The browns have 2 first round picks. Would it be crazy if the Bills used the non exclusive tag, and go both of the browns first round picks from this year? Or the 26th this year and a pick next year. Anyone sure how the first rounds are given in tag contracts? Is it first rounds as they stand? or can Cleveland and the Bills do something as follows: Bills Tag(non-exclusive) Byrd Cleveland makes and Offer and Byrd goes to the Browns - Bills Get 2 First round Draft Picks Cleveland Trades back the #4 spot for another first round pick in the 2015 season with a team - ( have not really looked at who might want to jump up to 4) Bills get 26 this year from the Browns + whatever #1 comes second in next years draft that the Browns pick up in the above trade OR Bills get 4+26 this year (I can dream)
  13. I all for a draft like this, and finding Fjaxs replacement is always on my mind especially if we can get the guy to save his tires. My big question, and really i'm pretty sure the almost entirety of the board would agree on this is, could you/would you do a draft where we trade out of the #9 spot and show us the result?
  14. So, I wanted to condense what everyone has been saying up to this point, if I miss something please let me know: 1) the #9 spot is a rather tricky spot to be drafting. There are a few players we would like to take here, but there is discrepancies on how high people feel players should be taken. 2) Without trading out at #9 the top 2 picks would be: Matthews/OT, Robinson/OT, Watkins/WR, Mack/ILB * Note: Both OT would be drafted to play RT and swing to LT should injury force the occasion. 3) If none of the 4 mention in #2 are there at 9 Trading back for more picks is pretty much unanimously agreed as the best option to stock pile picks in a deep class for WR/TE/LB/Large Corners in the early part fo the draft. 4) There are some excellent talents to be found in the late part of the draft due to players coming out early or recovering from injury. Does this sum up what we've argued/agreed upon to this point as a whole community? ----------------------------------------------------- I would like to start a collection of teams that could actually trade to the 9 spot and have a showing of what we would get in return. Also i would like to note that I ran a mock draft with some friends for the first round, we all like different teams and the fact that we each like teams in different divisions lined up perfectly: In our draft, Watkins was there at 9 however we did not allow for trades in our first mock because we felt that FA would affect the outcome too much and we wanted to get an idea of how much time it would take.
  15. In you're draft sim, were Donte Moncrief(WR) and Martavis Bryant(WR) already gone when u selected Brandon Coleman, or do you see him as higher than those 2? Also who did you trade back with?
  16. The point I was trying to make was, you can have all the weapons in the world, an set a bunch of records. Means jack squat if you don't win the only game that matters because your QB runs into a brick wall.
  17. Whats not fair? You can have all the weapons you want, If the QB can't throw the ball, and you can't run the ball, you aren't going to score. If you can't score the best you can hope for is a tie. Games are won initially up front at the Line. Look at the amazing OL that the Seahawks have. They don't exactly have amazing weapons (Excluding Lynch). Their Wr's are middle of the pack. Their D on the other hand is rather Elite. Something we are not 1 or 2 drafts away from being.
  18. Now, I hate to sound like a broken record, but once again, you can have all the weapons in the world, and a pretty good D but it doesn't matter if your QB doesn't have the time to make the plays. Only proof you need is the Broncos. That line is better than ours, their QB phenomenal, and enough weapons for him to pass to that he could almost close his eyes, throw the ball anywhere and have a TD. They make it to the superbowl, and get embarrassed all because their QB didn't have time to throw/ was harassed constantly, and all deep routes were snuffed out. Watkins won't be there are 9, simply won't happen. If by some miracle he is, rather than run up to the podium, you would HAVE to field the phone calls for those looking to trade up for him. Moncrief and skov will be there in the 3rd round no need to take them that high. I would prefer ASJ over Ebron. Not sure if it's in this post of the Collection of Mock drafts post where some of us have stated we feel he is just the better product/prospect. Mosely imo is not worth a 9th overall selection. SO if at #9 Robinson or Matthews is still on the board, they should be our pick. Otherwise, it would behoove us to trade down and pick up a second and third. This would be an amazing draft to pull back and stock up on the depth of talent.
  19. The best thing that could happen is for the bills to trade out of the 9 spot. The problem is, who would they trade with. Cleveland could look to trade up that second 1st round pick they have. SanFran could also be a partner if they value a WR that highly. I could also see Arizona, Greenbay and Baltimore looking to trade up.
  20. For those saying we don't need a Tackle, specifically a LT. Yes we do not need a LT..... a LG and RT however..... are major needs, and our RG is exactly the most amazing position on the team. Also, wile i'm not positive of this, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere or heard it mentioned that we basically never get anywhere running to the right.
  21. Watkins won't be there at 9, so WR at 9 is out. None of the TE or LB are actually worth being taken #9. More to the point, (excluding the LB), WR and TE does nothing for our Offence when EJ does not have time to throw. Also to restate whats been brought up a few times across the board, we have a wonderful set of running backs, but our line did a **** job of getting a good push last year. The lose of Levitre and Reinhart was easily noticeable, although not completely damaging to our teams future. Our D is clearly a few pieces from being the cream of the crop, but our Offence is, atrocious. That being said, I do though there is great talent to be found in this draft. As with last year, I feel the best course of action with this #9 pick would be to trade down and gain another second and third. The problem is, how far back do you let yourself slide and how much does it affect the big board. Zach Martin (OG) Morgan Moses (OT) Taylor Lewan (OT) Those are linemen we could pick up later that the 9th slot if we stick with beefing up the O line. As for LB. I would love to grab Mosley. for later rounds i think DeDe Lattimore is a sleeper pick. TE. I agree that ASJ is a better overall product, and while we need one we do have serviceable iron hands chandler still on the team. If we trade out of the 9th spot, i would be ALLLLLLL for taking TE/LB first. WR I feel is extremely deep and could be found in rounds 2-5. Brandon Coleman hasn't been mentioned but he could slip pretty far being a player from Rutgers. That next question is: Who are possible trade partners and what would we get in return, and obviously using the draft value chart helps determine the chance of the trade happening.
  22. I think you need to ahve a short memory for that. Otherwise you can't take anyone and might as well not show up for the draft. God forbid you get John McCargo Aaron Maybin J. P. Losman Erik Flowers
  23. So here is my first Mock for the Bills. I realize that a lot of ppl will probably hate this draft, however I'm a pretty firm believer that the game is won upfront first, and the back side is all about physicality. SO without much more delay here is my, none sexy pcik draft. Rd.1 Greg Robinson/Jake Matthews (OT) Take your pick here. I feel like either one would be a solid upgrade. I don't think I really need to explain these. Which ever is here at 9. Rd.2 Cryil Richardson/Gabe Jackson (OG) Big and Nasty. As with my first pick I'll take either one. This gives us 2 linemen that could/should start day 1 and be improvements over what we have. Since they should start, we could also pick up some money possibly dropping other contracts. We had a great running attack last year...... but we ran the ball more than anyone else. Not the best ratio. Also we need to keep EJ upright and give him just a little more time. Regardless of how many play makers you have, if the QB can't get the ball out or the RB can't get past the LOS it means nothing. Go ask Peyton if you don't believe me ( and yes yes i know that the Seahawks have amazing corners/safeties that play man which was also a factor) End result - 2 big linemen drafted and hopefully 4-5 yrs of solid line play. Rd.3 Chris Borland (LB)/ Donte Moncrief(WR)/ Martavis Bryant(WR) So I gave a pretty wide range here. Why? Because it's a first mock draft. Combines and FA still to come which would probably shake this all up. Borland seems like a solid pick here. I think i saw some board members against this pick, can't remember. As far as i can tell though, this seems about right and we do need another LB. HOWEVER - My pick personally would be Donte Moncrief or Martavis Bryant. Both are extremely underrated WR imo. I know we have Elliot and Braden and Kaufmen, but these guys could be animals. Also I'm sick of having small receivers. I like most, hope we release Graham, and while Goodwin is entertaining, we have not shown the ability to use speedy short receivers. Rd. 4/5 C.J. Fiedorowicz (TE)/ Joe Don Duncan (TE)/ Lamin Barrow (ILB) I am combining these 2 rounds. The reason being, I feel that pending which TE you want you could reach a little to get Lamin Barrow with a 4th. However, it would think it is unlikely to see C.J. Fiedorowicz fall anymore than the 4th. So this is really a matter of which TE you want. End Result A - C.J. Fiedorowicz (TE) + Lamin Barrow (ILB) End Result B - Lamin Barrow (ILB) + Joe Don Duncan (TE) Honestly I'm ok wither either. Rd. 6/7 Max Bullough (ILB)/ Nickoe Whiteley (S)/ Vinnie Sunseri (SS) Another pair of rounds i'm going to combine. This is because i find that the later rounds have a lot more to do with coaches and scouts getting it right. That said I think i ahve some nice choices. My choice - Max Bullough (ILB) + Nickoe Whiteley (S) Recap or TL:DR Rd.1 Greg Robinson/Jake Mtthews (OT) Rd.2 Cryil Richardson/Gabe Jackson (OG) Rd.3 Donte Moncrief(WR)/ Martavis Bryant(WR) Rd.4 C.J. Fiedorowicz (TE) Rd.5 Lamin Barrow (ILB) Rd.6 Max Bullough (ILB) Rd.7 Nickoe Whiteley (S) Went through Fanspeaks's Draft Sim trying to get as close to my post as possible, I ended with- Rd.1 Greg Robinson/Jake Mtthews (OT) Rd.2 Cryil Richardson/Gabe Jackson (OG) Rd.3 Donte Moncrief(WR)/ Martavis Bryant(WR) Rd.4 C.J. Fiedorowicz (TE) Rd.5 Max Bullough (ILB) // Lamin Barrow (ILB) taken only a few spots ahead by the falcons Rd.6 Vinnie Sunseri (SS) Rd.7 Nickoe Whiteley (S)
