  1. The good news is, they were able to land him by telling him, "Look, we have 1 set starter at WR. You'll have a good chance at earning a spot on the roster here."

The bad news is, they were able to land him by telling him, "Look, we have 1 set starter at WR. You'll have a good chance at earning a spot on the roster here." :P

ACtually, I could see rookie wide receivers on the roster opening day. that would include Rogers, and the two drafted. Risky, but what is there to keep over them. Stevie, Brad Smith and the Graham. Six is about right.....
  2. Manuel should start as soon as possible, but no sooner! Need the coaching staff to make that call, none of us here that smart. I remember the Bills staff of another decade ruining Todd Collins in Buffalo, but he lasted elsewhere in the league for 15 years. don't push the rook to fast in my view.

  3. We should all hope like hell that Byrd is thought of like Jason Peters in 2010.

Parker and Peters thought Peters should be paid the going rate for top LTs. That number was 10m. They would have gladly signed with the Bills for that amount, which was about the third most at the time. Jake Long was 11 I think. I can't recall who else made a little more than 10. The Bills were only willing to pay 9m, so they traded to Philly who was willing to pay him the 3rd best in the league.

If the Bills are willing to pay Byrd the going rate and the 3rd best S contract in the league right now, which is what he deserves by being his contract year at this point in his career, then we have him locked up for 5+ years.

You should all hope it plays out like Jason Peters, except this time the team pays the going rate. I know I do.

The problem with the Peters situation was that he had 3 years left on a contract. Folks, when you sign, you are bound. Peters and Parker weaseled out.....I would not allow that in any circumstances. Its a manhood thing in my view. Byrd situation is different...no contract....but thye tag thing. He is trying to weasel that situation.....I wouldn't allow it myself......
  4. No doubt Eugene Parker is playing the same game with Byrd as he did with Peters. If so, I hope the Bills let Byrd sit and rot. If he will not sign the tender, let him sit. They will still own his rights come next year. I would love to keep him, but they should not allow themselves to be held hostage.

Yep, with Parker as the agent, let Byrd sit out the season, no more trades like the Peters deal. Don't let Parker drive a trade....let Byrd pay the price for having such tactics in play. by the way, if he sits out, he still has a contract in force, I think.....doesn't clear out the tag he has.....worse scenrio, he shows up 3 days before the first regular season game, then he has to be inactive since he can't play the D, which is new. But, you could put him on special teams.....heh heh.
  5. It will take a year for everybody to learn Pettine's system. I don't hopes for early success. I remember being 4-3, the 3-4, then 4-3, now 3-4 again. Nobody doing what they did last year. That spells mistakes and poor results. I hope I am surprised, but franchise stability is required to have top notch offensive and defensive systems. Rookie mistakes from everybody next year.

  6. Steelers preseason game years ago....I caught some flak on the trolley, the city bus, using the restroom and got a full can of beer thrown at me in the parking lot. Would I do it again? Absolutely.

Yes, my son was in Pittsburg for two years, and tried to go with his Bills jersey on....BIG mistake. Steelers fans are not tolerant of other fans, and my son never wore his again in Pittsburg. ON the other hand, went to Baltimore a couple of years ago, and things were fine in the Ravens stadium. As for the comments on the JETs, would NOT wear Bills gear to the JEts/Giants facility...crowd is mostly mentally ill, and an incident is likely.

As for Buffalo, except for a few drunks, the fans are tolerant of other Jerseys. (I am a season ticket holder)

  7. Recalling the Arizona game last year, where Kolb was the QB for Ariz, he got hurt, and never got back in the groove the rest of the season. but, he stood in there against the Bills, and he impressed me with his heart willingness to lead in tough circumstances. (talentless, almost anyhow, Cards)

    The Bills could do worse.

  8. I like the set up, but that roster's only going to win us 3-4 games. It's sad how our OL now looks. And here I thought losing Kelsay and Fitz would prevent us from dismantling it. Also, I like him, but McKelvin is a high need. He is not a starter. In fact, I would have put Brooks there.

I was hopeful on Brooks, but he was a fourth rounder for a reason. Although he has ball skills, he is slow for a CB. That young receiver at Indy left him in the dust, Brooks can't run with the burners. thats why he was not a starter at LSU. McKelvin however, did not get burned in the four games he played as a starter last year prior to getting hurt. McKelvin will still do fine, but we need another CB, and I am not a believer in Brooks there. Actually, he might be a safety candidate as well.
  9. Bills will now sign Reinhart if they can. He performed well in his starts these last couple of years, and, although he is not as flexible as Levetre in terms of moving to tackle, he is pretty good at guard. He also will not cost $8 mil a year. He will get 2-3 mil, I think though.

  10. to add to the point that Buffalo could never afford a 1.4B stadium center is the fact that its just a proposal. In the end, it would never be that much. Some slabs of Granite and Limestone are replaced with Brick, some luxury ideas become more standardized and boom, your talking $800m or even less. What's the price of some other large stadiums around the league? Not every team plays Giants, Jets, Cowboys money to build a stadium. Look at Pitt, New England, Arizona, Seattle, Indy. All new stadiums and none of them over $770M in today's dollars. And only Indy was that much. The rest of those stadiums right around $5M or under in today's dollars.

You can't fix the terrible location in terms of getting in and out. A stadium should NEVER be built on the waterfront, not enough roads to get the paying fans there. Orchard Park at least has roads radiating out in 360 degrees.
  11. OK, Nix has a commitment by contract to Fitz for 2013, not much to be save. And Fitz, not being an A or even a B rated quarterback....more like a C+/B- QB, might as well keep him and let him compete. Now, TJ may not even be a C QB, but is certainlyl no better than Fitz, so whatever happens in 2013, unless a rookie does it, we will not be seeing A play from the QB. I think Chan was saying they could win with Fitz....playing at say a B level. Now, Levetre, that is a different situation. He is good, but not head and shoulders over other available talent. Rheinhart (also unsigned) could be a capable starter, not as flexible as Levetre, but pretty good none the less. Lets say Levetre is an B+ player, very durible (never been to the pro bowl, no A) and can play multiple positions. Rheinhart can play either guard, and not much dropoff when he was in there the past couple of seasons as the line improved. So, I think that the megabuck deal for Levetre will not happen, cheaper good (not great) options exist. And, if Levetre gets the big deal, Rheinhart will go elsewhere where he might get to start.
