  1. Byrd wants to get paid....big time money. He will do that in Buffalo, or any other NFL city, doesn't matter. He has connections here, but could make the same elsewhere. This is all about the MONEY. He won't take a contract he doesn't like to stay in Buffalo. I agree he is not a #1 athletically, but, he has great reads and anticipation and is at least a journeyman on his weaker skills. He is a valuable commodity. He will likely play in Buffalo this year under a one year deal, but will try to extract a promise that they won't tag him again next year. If Buffalo does not give this assurance, he might be a November show up guy like Vincent Jackson was in SD a couple of years ago. Personally, I think they need to keep the money to get Spiller to reup when his contract is done, and that will be a whole lot of money folks.

  2. Parker is hoping to hold out a signing for this year for the start of training camp against a promise not to tag BYRD next year. Clements got that deal when he got out of town, I think. If I were the Bills, I would not fall for that ploy......and Byrd shows up in early November. Then, I would tag him again.....if they haven't tagged Spiller or Wood by then.....Anyhow, no more Mister nice guy....play the teams position to the max because Parker will be playing Byrd's to the max.

  3. Requiring a total sell out of tickets three days in advance has always seemed a bit harsh - especially when you consider Rich stadium had a capacity of 80,000+ (largest crowd was 80,368 10/4/92 Bills Vs Miami), and a lot of large market teams had stadiums well below that. Sure, The Ralph now only seats 73,000, yet here's a list of current stadiums with lower seating capacity:

    • University of Phoenix Stadium 63,400
    • Soldier Field, Chicago 61,500
    • Reliant Stadium, Houston 71,054
    • Raymond James Stadium, Tampa 65,908
    • Qualcomm Stadium, San Diego 70,561
    • Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati 65,535
    • Oakland Co. Coliseum 53,200
    • Mall of America Field, Minneapolis 64,121
    • M&T Bank Stadium, Baltimore 71,008
    • Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis 62,421
    • LP Field, Nashville 69,143
    • Lincoln Financial Field, Philly 68,532
    • Heinz Field, Pittsburgh 65,050
    • Gillette Stadium, Foxborough 68,756
    • Georgia Dome, Atlanta 71,228
    • Ford Field, Detroit 65,000
    • EverBank Field, Jacksonville 67,246
    • Edward Jones Dome, St Louis 66,965
    • Century Link Field, Seattle 67,000
    • Candlestick Park, San Francisco 69,732

Plus new stadiums for San Fran (68,500); Minnesota (65,000); Atlanta (65,000) will all be smaller than The Ralph if and when they're built.

I think the NFL should lift the blackout for all stadiums when they sell the same number of tickets equal to that of the team playing each week with the SMALLEST STADIUM's capacity. That would be parity. So, for example if Oakland is playing then no team would have a blackout if they sold 53,200 tickets. If Oakland isn't playing and Chicago is - then the number grows to 61,500 tickets.

Why the hell should Buffalo get blacked out after selling 71,500 tickets and a city like Chicago gets free tv with 10,000 fewer tickets sold?

Its about revenue, not seats. Buffalo tickets are cheaper than most in the NFL, partly because of the larger stadium allows lower ticket prices. So, more tickets have to be sold to increase revenue to near the mean.

  4. The NFL ticket exchange works pretty well. I have sold and purchased on that site...and you get tickets e-mailed directly to you, no waiting for snail mail to arrive. this is Bills and NFL sanctioned. Service charges a little pricey, but worth it in my view for the absolute convience.

  5. If the busuness cannot survive with only two employess and it's a necessity to have four, then, yes the owner has decisions to make. That's what free enterprise is all about. That's still better than paying 4 workers poverty level wages. You're lawn mowing business is an interesting scenerio but ,again , like the previous statement, the owner and the consumer have decisions to make as being part of the free enterprise system. Does having to raise prices make paying a worker poverty level wages ok? If the minimum wage is raised, then all lawn mowing companies will be at the same level playing field and the market will re-adjust from there. It's not like your lawn mowing company is the only one affected. They will all have to pay a better wage. So it will even out. The better companies will do well. And grass grows and needs to be cut. I don't cut my lawn any less because the price of gas has tripled over the years. I adjust , but I still cut my lawn.

The problem is not a low minimum wage? Tell that to the millions working for poverty wages. Talking about the marginal revenue product is for people who aren't marred in the cycle of poverty created by this minimum wage. Yes, companies have formulas that decide how much work units are required to prduce their product but like you said that is affected by the minimum wage. So of course they want to keep the wage low. They want to maximize profites. Is this good for the country or just good for the people maximizing profits on the backs of people in poverty?

You say we don't need to increase government involvement? That's funny. Have you seen how much the government has helped big business in this country? From tax breaks to less regulation? Have you ever considered that raising the minimum wage might actually help the economy? Do you think the workers who make more with an increased minimum wage will be saving that newfound fortune? No, they will spend it, The economy might very well benefit from an increased minimum wage.

Your lawn mowing business scenrio is missing the real world element of "off the books" workers. Guys and gals paid in cash everyday without any record of employment. LOTS of that going on, especially in the illegal immigrant community, but really in the whole economy, not that segment of employees alone. Especially the small business for short terms/seasonal businesses, like lawn mowing. For the little business owner, he is already stretched so far he is close to going under...have one of my wife's relatives in that situation. That guy is also buried under other regulations that most of his competitors ignore....he knows the law, but can't afford to follow it....he would be out of business in two months...with no business.
  6. Manuel and our new defensive scheme. Pettine will prove to be a huuuuuge addition. So huge, this will likely be his only season here in buffalo

He may do well, but this is his first season as DC without Rex Ryan looking over his shoulder. Even with a superbowl season like performance, I doubt he is yet a head coaching candidate. He cannot leave for a lateral, unless his contract is up. I am guessing he got more than one year when doing his initial contract.
  7. At the risk of being flippant, should this suit come forward, the Town of Orchard Park and Erie County might well adopt a policy that those though to be inebriated should spend the night in the local lockup. Then nobody drowns. Get two paddy wagons, and shuttle them to a nearby jail, where they can sleep it off. Of course, they may need to turn a local college dormatory into that jail based on the crowd I have seen. But, certain folks are falling down drunk, and, I guess, could be protected from themselves. (really BIg Brother nanny state stuff) there must be a local statute against public drunkness......if not, they just might enact one.

  8. the Bills complaints laid out in the article also conveniently neglect to mention the Bills play a home game in Toronto, in which they prefer to have it played against an NFC opponent.

that's all well and good, but had the NFL schedule-maker scheduled, say, New England, to play in Toronto, then the Bills would have one fewer game against a more-rested opponent, no?

Well, multiple venues are not uncommon in football. The Packers used to do that, don't know anymore. IN college football, Alabama goes to Biringham sometimes, and stays in Tuscalossa sometimes, I think. Does anybody else in the NFL today use multiple stadiums? (Yeh, Vikes when their roof caves in  )
  9. It helps if Gronk is out because of the back surgery, for sure. I cannot fathom why back surgery would be held off to mid June. Why not January? Hoping it would self heal? I don't know, just wondering if it was planned this way, or just bad judgement by Gronk or team management. In any event, Bills luck out having Pat up first in light of Gronks likely absense from that game.

  10. Kolb is the starter unless EJ takes it away in training camp. Not sure he can do that yet.....a year from now, I think for sure, but today, still on the steep part of the learning curve. If the Bills can't win with Kolb, or Kolb gets hurt, then EJ can start with a little less pressure....and get ready to take over in year two. Aaron Rodgers sat behind Farve 3 years, and it didn't hurt him. Yeh, I know, Kolb is not Farve. I think there is a possibility the Kolb will surprise. He was killer at the beginning of last season for Ariz. If he can stay healthy, he could very well surprise.

  11. Recall Marrone was on the Jets staff a few years back and knew Pettine then.....so, the mysterious connection isn't so mysterious. And, Pettine, showed good judgement getting out of the Jets circus and getting the chance to be his own man. Now, as for former Jets not being signed (cept Downton), that knife cuts two ways, maybe Pettine did not want those guys...he would know. OK, his performance going forward is all the matters.....Gailey choose poorly for DC all his years. Marrone did better already. IMHO

  12. A decade from now, likely will not need a two bills drive website. Unfortunately. Buffalo market to small to play in the big money NFL long term. I don't like it, but I am prepared for it. Just check the demographics in this country, lots of bigger venues to move to....with better weather as well, meaning potential sell outs in November and December, something not seen here since the playoff days of Jim Kelly.

  13. I am upset with the seat cushion ban. I have a serious back problem that needs a support. I can get all the doctors notes etc, but the policy doesn't seem to accomodate that. I think they are crossing the ADA (American Disabilities Act) line on that one, and somebody will straighten them up on that one. I will try nice first, though.

  14. I read the policy....actually, its not much different than the policy that was already in place . I actually have had that plastic bag they describe for more than 10 years. That is transparent, 1'x1'. I carry poncho's, small radio, binocs, sandwiches, chips whatever....just not liquids. Of course, my grey hair helps me through security. Younger folks get treated worse, I have seen it. (Although, last year I had to hold my i phone out in the rain so they could wand me. They said it was for the good of my i phone, the wand can damage them allegedly. Like putting it out in the rain could not!) I agree, the security provisions take away from the game experience substantially, and the lines are horrendous. I am likely a short timer as a season ticket holder, can't take this much longer.

  15. Actually, there is something behind Belicheck going this route. Perhaps he has decided that Mallet doesn't have "it". Great arm but not the head, I am guessing. Look for Pats to trade Mallet....somebody else to be #2, and Tebow at #3 for now. Tebow does have the head.....maybe not the arm, though. Tebow was a #1 pick.....a nice pickup if he can be salvaged. Not happy its the Pats, but Brady will be there for 4 more years anyhow.

  16. Stevie Johnson is a very capable receiver, but not totally elite because of his lack of speed. Most NFL corners can run him down from behind. their real problem with him is his moves....he can separate and can catch, although he has only average hands. I don't think this rating is far off.

  17. I guess I am still wondering why, with the Bills not moving on Levetre, that Reinhart was not resinged. Reinhart start many games over two years, and did workman like job. Yet, little if any comment on this board about that loss. Another front office failing in my view. He only got a one year contract from San Diego, so he did not go to a top of the line contract. Why not keep him?

  18. We really should discuss the root cause of the reception probem. I live in Niagara County, substantially north of the transmitters for the Buffalo area, which are all south of the city. In fact, we lost the ability to get any (digital) out of the air signals when the mandatory conversion to digital signals was implemented. So, we need to blame the FCC and the federal government in general for this problem. I my case, I bought, tried out, and returned 6 different antenna's, allegedly supposed to bring in digital, none worked and many were intermittant during questionable weather where electrostatic effects wiped out the digital signal. Folks, this was big government at its worst....they are forcing us to go to satellite TV or cable...consider us OTA (out of the Air) folks to be throwbacks and hicks. I now have directv, and it works fine almost all the time. Anyhow, just making the point here, not surprised to hear this war story from central NY....same all over. Many people got hosed by the digital conversion....that was the intent!. Its all about the money folks. The media industry lobbied the FCC to get into your pocketbook!!! They could have mandated higher power levels for digital, but then there would not have been all those new customers for cable and satellite! And, finally, you should be aware that the same lobby is now pushing to ELIMINATE OTA service, as it is a technology whose time is past! (yeh, it is about the money folks)
