I agree with you. After next season, if he performs well, he will want a new deal, but it will not be this year.

...but...but...but...the author believes some of the theories, so therefore the ENTIRE book is non-fiction.

They were smart and tied their pay raises into the raises for other federal employees. That way, they can use a guilt trip to get it through ("You are against fedral employees getting a cost of living increase in their pay?"). As far as SS, I am wondering if no solution exists? The problem you have now is the people who oppose anything for the sake of opposing it. You have congressional representatives and PAC's out there specifically lying to people to get them to oppose Bush's "plan." Of course, if Bush actually proposed a plan, then you could start working out a compromise, but since that has not happened yet it is making it a little tough. The Democrats have said that they will not allow any type of private account. "How can you let Wall Street control the fate of your retirement?" The problem with this argument is that they must then oppose 401K plans, all forms of IRA's, etc which puts your money in private accounts. I did not see them rushing to oppose any of this when it was proposed. The other problem they have with this argument is that the federal government does not have a very good track record in efficiently managing money. Yes, SS is a third rail issue, but something needs to be done. If the Democrats do not like what the President is proposing, supply an alternative. It is impossible to work out a compromise when one side refuses to put their cards on the table.

As far as I'm concerned, TD had a playoff team

See my last post to Gavin. Losing record in the AFC means no playoffs. Who cares about the NFC? -

At least that would be accurate. -

So what if the bar is higher in the AFC? What does that have to do with anything? You still need to beat the teams in your conference. All of the playoff teams last year, in the AFC, were over .500 (Denver and NYJ being the worst at 7-5). The Bills were 5-7. -

Too bad they couldn't win when they should have in order to make the playoffs. The playoff teams were actually able to win when they should have in order to advance to the playoffs. Therein lies the difference. Funny, I thought the Bills were in the AFC. What the hell does NFC playoff teams have to do with the Bills? Combining the AFC and NFC again, huh? -

Yes, it does. If he brings in talent and the coaches do not get the most out of it, the GM needs to change the coaches (and he has). If the players suck, then he needs to get rid of the players. He has a coach with one year under his belt. I would hold off on canning TD until I see how this coach performs. If the Bills take a major step backwards this year, then I say can TD. There may be some dropoff due to the fact that Losman is starting, but I would not hold that against TD. -

As many have pointed out here, it is TD's responsibility to get th eplayers here, not to coach them. GM can't correct this other than to trade the player. See above. How is the GM going to correct this? That is the coach's responsibility. All were examples of things outside the realm of the GM's responsibilities. You can criticize him for trades, drafts and overall talent evaluation but nonoe of the items you mentioned. Last year was not a playoff year. Playoff teams overcome the issues you mentioned. The Bills did not do that. -

You think that cursing is worse than accusing someone of committing a crime? -

Dean is sullying his own character. No need for the Reps to do it. You did not answer my question earlier. Which is worse: slander or cursing? -

You energize them by showing that you stand for something. You energize them by showing that you have a platform and actual solutions instead of "plans." You don't energize them by acting like a child. This tactic was employed during the last election. It actually turned people off because it showed the Dems to be nothing but bitter, hateful children. If it didn't work during a major election like 2004, then there is no way in hell it is going to energize the base for 2006. You already have the bitter, angry MoveOn.org loonies energized and that is the type of person energized by slanderous statements like Deans. There is no need to energize those people. Focus on the part of the base that is looking for a solution. So far, the Dems have ignored this part and, IMO, it cost them the election last year. Hell, you couldn't even beat an extremely vulnerable candidate. That proves that the bitter angry liberal tactic did nothing more than turn off their base or force them to vote for Bush. Here is a thought: try a new tactic. Frankly, I love it. It puts the Dems in a deeper hole than they were before. -

Well, the Libertarian Party is the fastest growing political party in the country. It is stuff like this that is causing it. Keep it up, guys. Keep digging that hole for yourselves. -

Let me ask you this, the base was already fired up this last election. You need to target the moderates and get them on your side. How do you do that when you see the Dem leadership stooping to slanderous attacks? -

He expanded outside the realm of politicians when he slandered Rush Limbaugh. He just looks like he wants to attack anything and everything and doesn't care how he does it. If you want to attack things Rush says, go for it. Slander is stepping over the line and should not be tolerated from a "leader." It makes him look petty, and frankly, ignorant. -

If my behavior was so offensive to you, why do you support it from your leadership? It seems hypocritical to me. Just another example of the Dems being no different than the Republicans. -

So, slander is OK as long as it helps the party and energizes the base?
