  1. You have to make choices. One choice is whether to base a free agency philosophy on paying an astronomical price for an established name free agent or build a scouting staff that can spot an up and coming talent and secure the player right when they are on the cusp of improving. Fowler and Royal for example probably had their best years as pros last year and we signed them to reasonable deals that will keep them here for years to come. Are they pro bowlers -- no-- but they are serviceable parts who if either hit the market this year -- would command more than they did last year. This is our philosophy when it comes to free agency--work like hell to retain our guys who we want to retain (Nate and Kelsay) -- and fill holes with up and comers..rather than shopping on Rodeo Drive we are shopping on Transit Road...its not panic time...its roll up your sleeves and scout and coach and teach time...Will they keep Nate--who knows. Did Marv tire of London's ability to make a bunch of tackles 6 yards off the line--yep... This is a hell of a lot more fun for me...its blue collar, low ego approach -- it fits this team and it fits Buffalo--let's just go do it...
  2. I was pretty satisfied with the overall content.... 4 or 5 targeted free agents Build through the Draft Motivated the existing players without tipping his hand too much If he really wanted to get into the money stuff they could have had Overdorf there. They didn't want to talk about money--that was obvious from his evasive almost uniformed answers. I think that was done on purpose. Marv is more like Yoda to this team--overall good Kharma but not the day to day guy....it showed a bit--but why tip your hand more than he did...
  3. Foster have proven to be the Jonas Jennings of the RB position....you are correct my brown fizzy water friend...
  4. Wonder if it could be with Thurman....
  5. He has potential OC -- but if I learned anything from the Losman experience its that when there is an open position you bring in legitimate competition -- either through the draft or free agency to compete for it...there is no way I would award the job to John at this point even if he had played some substantial minutes last year in a back up role (which he did not)...I think that competing for open roles is the philosophy of this staff and its a great way to build depth. So Youboty doesn't have a lock on Nate's corner slot; Hargrove is not a lock to be in the DE rotation if we let Kelsay go, etc. Bring in legitimate competition and let the contenders play it out...
  6. He will announce that he to likes the babe action in Toronto...
  7. The writers had to be downright gay when they heard this clip...
  8. Just saw it again out West while I was on the treadmill. Not to change the subject--but Ann Curry is a very attractive woman. Its tough to see that behind the kevlar she wears when she is on assignment in Lebanon or wherever.... http://www.reportercaps.com/Home_MSNBC/msnbc_acurry.php
  9. I really think what he was saying was that he was secretly attracted to Pat Riley
  10. The actual interview with Dan LeBatard is hysterical....it sounds like Larry the Cable Guy doing a comedy routine. Hardaway set back being a homophobe by generations.... I wonder how comfortable Tim will be the next time he visits South Beach and gets cat calls....I can see him now--running away like a damn sissy saying "I hate all you's guys. Quit looking at my butt."
  11. Add James Hall and Marcus Bell to the Marinelli purge in Detroit... Hall, DE 6'2" 280 Comment: Hall is very active, tenacious and consistent. He is the ultimate try-hard player. His first-step quickness probably is his best feature. He is a smooth athlete who changes directions well and has good body control. He avoids contact and is difficult to block because he always is on the move. He is instinctive and has great awareness and a feel for blocking angles. He plays with excellent leverage. He is a great pursuit player who makes more than his share of backside plays. He is very good at locating the ball while on the move. He excels on blitzes and stunts and always seems to be around the ball. He can be effective in some zone-blitz situations. But Hall is undersized and lacks power. He can be overpowered at the point of attack when reached. He lacks great edge speed and is able to finish plays based more on his effort than any closing burst. Marcus Bell 6'2" 325 DT Comment: Bell has a good combination of size, athleticism and experience. He plays with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. He is intense and isn't afraid to mix it up. He has the bulk to play two-gap techniques and stuff the run at the point of attack. He has enough first-step quickness to be a fairly effective inside penetrator. He uses his hands pretty effectively and can get separation from blockers. He can handle the double team and stack at the point of attack. He is tough to move out of the hole. But Bell is limited by his conditioning and stamina. He tends to get heavy and wear down. He gets sloppy in his techniques and becomes far less effective when tired. He gets gassed when matched up in a lot of short-area fistfights. He probably never will be an every-down player.
  12. I lost...Terdell just signed a long term deal to remain with the Raiders. Remain with the Raiders???? Wonderlic check please..
  13. Good stuff our crayola loving buddy... Still waiting for Ed Kilgore's response to this..... Still smelling the Dial Sport Soap I used without a washcloth when I showered this AM... The offseason at TBD. where the men are men and the keyboards are nervous..
  14. Captain McGillicuddy rules the sea.... http://www.captainmcgillicuddy.com/Mcgillicuddy/Savimbi.asp
  15. 1) He hasn't been cut 2) He is a free agent Everyone's entitled to their opinion -- but if you post about players getting cut--your thread doesn't qualify for this...
  16. I know that he is old...but anyone who came over the table on Gilbride is okay with me...Does he still live in Buffalo? He still has a few more years left--sign him to a reasonable 2 or 3 year deal -- let him teach Peters the finer points as his running mate on the left side....
  17. I know a sick kid in England who is collecting business cards to help him feel better....I also have a Nigerian prince for a friend...his dad just died leaving him a boatload of cash but he can't get it out of the country--send him $25K to help him smuggle the money out and he will cut you in on the deal...
  18. Probably right...but even Spanos isn't cooky enough to do this without a back-up plan---Fassell, Cottrell (DC) and Jim Caldwell (OC) (Colts) might stabilize this mess..it actually makes our situation from last year look sane...
  19. Yep--but could be new coach of the Chargers.
  20. Technically Wire was an extension. He is under contract until Free Agency day -- which I believe is March 3
  21. You make this sound like a bad thing..... Losing 4 straight super bowls and being on the outside of the playoffs for 7 years will do that to a fan base
