  1. Yes, it was certainly a penalty. What I meant was, if you are going to take a penalty on a play like that, you should make sure you get a better/harder shot. "Justify" from Bills/Maybin's view, not the refs.
  2. Actually he showed me a little something on that hit. I have no problem with our guys putting a late (even very late) smack on the opposing QB, early in the game. It's the attitude this team has been missing for years. Now the hit wasn't HARD enough to justify the penalty. But he had the right idea. The QB should not be comfortable, and should be worried even if the whistle is sounding. Overall I was more impressed with Maybin than I have been to date.
  3. EDIT: Would the DC Crazy Injuns work for you, too?
  4. No doubt. I would have liked to see Lee make a stronger move to the ball. But really the likely best that would have happened is he breaks up the INT. Trent threw a horrible pass, Hall made a great play and Evans didn't do enough, IMO.
  5. Looking at it another way: Jesse Owens is considered one of the greatest athletes of the last century. I have no argument with that. But if someone asks "who is the greatest 100 meter runner of all time?" don't you think there is a legitimate argument for Usain Bolt? Owens dominated in his day, but his best times simply aren't up to the best times of the modern era.
  6. Again, I'm not saying it's MY argument, I'm saying these are LEGIT arguments. When comparing players from different eras, it is one thing to talk about their dominance in an era and quite another to talk about how they compare, all time, against others. Human athletes have evolved. It's fairly easy to see in any timed sport, or sport that is measured objectively. Players now are faster, jump higher, etc. Now you say Ruth would have benefited from modern training methods, HGH, etc. I agree, he might have. There is also a chance he wouldn't have worked that hard and took a job digging ditches. Ruth was hardly an athlete committed to training. He may have been head and shoulders better than those he played against, but he really didn't have to work at it. He certainly wouldn't get the chance to pitch and hit today. You see, you use his pitching as evidence of his greatness. I can see that point. I can also see the argument that it's clear the game was so much different, and the athletes so less skilled that one guy could excel at both of those things. If he was coming up today he'd have to decide on one or the other fairly early in his career. A batter today faces three/four pitchers a game, most who throw faster than they did back then and all with far more training. The point, once again, being you don't have to agree with the arguments, but not acknowledging them is simply not an option, IMO.
  7. This is part of what I was getting at. It has to be tough for the WR to even guess what Trent is eventually going to do since he doesn't seem to do it with commitment and confidence.
  8. We disagree on who we blame most. But we agree on the bolded sentence.
  9. Thrilling! I laughed. I cried. I said "WTF happened here, again?"
  10. Shiv the mofo! It seems you always find something in the last place you look for it.
  11. I'm an Italian/Sicilian American and I hate the Redskins. I can think of no more disrespectful and derogatory team name in all of American sport. Could you imagine the Harlem Blackskins or the San Francisco Yellows? I cringe every time I hear their name....oh well. Disgusting, really.
  12. Trent needs to throw the ball before the WR makes his break. A WR makes a break and looks for the ball. If he has a 1/2 step and the ball is well thrown, it should be a completion. Trent refuses to let it go and trust the WR. Now, I admit Evans didn't come as strong for that ball as he should have (or as strong as Hall did). But Reed ran his pattern, turned and the Trent still had the ball. WTF? Now they all have to GUESS what the hell is going on? Not excusing Reed on that play, but the INT belongs to Trent.
  13. I'm guessing you see him next week.
  14. Actually Maybin hasn't made many plays, but you can see how freakishly quick and fast he is. He has just missed making several big plays. I think he has potential. Nice run by Simpson!
  15. Yes, so no players of color, who were banned from MLB could have been worth squat then. They only became great athletes later. A horrible argument even for the likes of you. You read a book? Excellent point. How many of Babe's HRs were hit over the fence in dead center field at the Polo Grounds? I don't know the answer, just wondering. Knowing the dimensions of the field really doesn't tell us much here, does it? Very impressive. I never said he wasn't good. He was clearly head and shoulders better than the other generally poorly trained (comparatively) athletes of his era. I could also mention, again, that the pool of athletes who were allowed to compete was severely restricted, but I won't. Oops. How did I miss this. Any great hitter will tell you it helps to face the same pitcher multiple times during the game. The hitter typically has more of an advantage on the 3rd or 4th at bat against the same pitcher. Sorry the quotes got screwed up. This should really be my ending comment: Well, I gave you several. Those are all legit reasons why someone might question your conclusion. You don't agree with them, but you have failed (and miserably at that) to suggest they aren't legit reasons.
  16. What's all this now? Just having a bit of fun.
  17. OK, you got me. But I watched the 1st half at a bar w/no sound. So I was working off that.
  18. The worst thing so far, for me, is seeing Haslett on the Redskins' sideline. I'm not saying I want him on the Bills' sideline. I just don't like seeing him with Washington, tonight.
  19. Considering it's this coaching staff's FIRST outing, I won't go that far. I do think it is fairly clear that Rex Grossman is a far better QB than Trent. At least based on their careers to date, and tonight's game.
  20. Yes Maybe you missed the part where John said "I am not bashing anybody here....and I glanced at the game briefly." I think he was asking a simple question.
  21. Where's Brett Favre on this list? What about Teddy Bruschi?
  22. OK http://curtskene.files.wordpress.com/2009/11/ugly_baby.jpg
