John Rzeznik to sing the National anthem
The Dean replied to youngjebrey's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I hate to break this to you, but if you start choosing very personal things (like music) based on what you think "chicks like" I think you may be in for a miserable future, as far as women go. Oh, I'm not suggesting you won't find some women this way, but what kind of women will they be? Get ready for a life of your wife, or girlfriend, telling you what to wear, what movies you will see, when you can watch football and where you are going to dinner. You are only 23 and already well on the way to being a perfect manslave. I'm not suggesting you should tell the woman what to do, either. I'm not that un-evolved. But the cavalier attitude you choose to sell out what you chose to listen to suggests you aren't quite as self-confident as you like to pretend. After all, a truly self-confident person wouldn't pick something they didn't like because they thought it would attract someone of the opposite sex. Which leads us to another possible explanation, that you really like the Goo Goo Dolls, but don't want to admit it--rather pretending you listen to it because of the chicks. That suggests you aren't only unconfident, but perhaps a bit embarrassed to admit it. Note, I'm not saying this is the truth, rather what it might suggest. It's been a long time since I went to college (though I was there for quite a long time--well past 23 years old). But I recall college age women having diverse taste in music, and overall far less rigid in their musical preferences than men at that age. "The girls don't seem to care what's on, as long as they play til dawn." Perhaps a bit sexist but it rings pretty true in my experience. At your age I was taking women to see jazz, classical, rock and even the opera. If she was interesting enough I would stretch my limits of tolerance by letting her take me to something that wasn't really to my tastes. But I can't even imagine a life of choosing what I listen to based on what I imagine others like. Just sayin'. Oh, and while I am 57 years old, I'm still, in many ways, living what many consider to be "the dream". While women aren't "all fighting over me" (I mean really?) I have never had any problem in that area. -

That's the way you play when you have no real game. I select my music for MY ears. I'll teach the right girls to appreciate it. Well that was me (at least I suggested it). I can't really say I listen to much Ani, but I have a ton of respect for her. She has gone in many different directions and has never sold out, as far as I know. Not a huge fan of many of his bands, but the guy does have major talent. I like the idea of a bass-driven National Anthem. Give it some balls. WNY has always been a breeding ground for musical talent. We lost one of the greats last year, when Jim Hall died. Perhaps if you were less focused on who is "famous" and more focused on who is actually good, you wouldn't refer to Reznick as a "top flight musician" -

How would that make Pegula greater? What does the presence of Bon Jovi offer to Bills fans? -
I believe Whaley will trade for a guard
The Dean replied to Webster Guy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly,. Richie was a below average G when he was here the last time, Why trade for trouble with no payoff? I think at least some of you "sign Incognito" guys just like him BECAUSE he got in trouble for bullying a teammate. It certainly isn't for his skill as a player. I'll ask again, how about giving Hairston a shot? Can he be worse than Pears? I understand they want to keep Urbik (and maybe Hairston) healthy in case of an injury, but at some point, they have to do something about the G play. I doubt his numbers, this year as a Bill, have much impact on his trade value. He is part of a rotation and, for the moment, Fred is getting the ball more often---deservedly so, I think. But that does nothing to diminish Spiller's obvious talents. On a team that has the right kind of offense, and can get him into space (as Chan did) he is among the most explosive backs in the league. Do you think GM's simply look at t the 2014 stats to make their evaluations? -

Can't I hate them both (well, their music anyway)? Crap Rock isn't my cup-o-tea. But yes, I can see how a local boy would be a natural choice to sing the National Anthem. Does Ani DiFranco get her shot, too? -

Well that's one reason to not get to your seat early I guess. Still I suppose weighed against whatever pregame festivities they have planned, one could suffer through this indignity. -
Fantastic news.

A new dawn for Buffalo, Pegula vote unanimous
The Dean replied to papazoid's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Thanks guys. Nothing too serious and I seem to be turning the corner. The two days off have given me some time to watch and gobble up all that national coverage I was assured we'd see once the deal was made official. I guess I must have slept through it. Not that I really care, but it seems to be mostly a non-story as far as I can tell. And just as I posted this, NFL live had their 1:30 piece on the sale. -

Outstanding! I'm sitting at home, very sick, and this has managed to make be feel a bit better. Nothing I didn't expect, but feels good just the same. -
I read that Orton made the decision at the line, but that it had been discussed as an possible audible while on the sidelines (I think that's the way I remember it). He mentioned it was hard to hear and he is glad Fred got the right play. That's what I remember, but my memory has been a bit challenged the past few days.

NFL believes it’s 12-24 months away from a return to L.A.
The Dean replied to The Dean's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Exactly. I really don't think LA is craving an NFL team. And the league is thriving without a team there. Ratings are great without a team in the #2 tv market. This process can, and probably will happen, organically. If they had a stadium ready, they would probably get the Raiders or Chargers eventually. Maybe build a new stadium for the Chargers a but further north. I mean, look at the distance fans from San Francisco have to travel to attend a 49er game. And I agree this is an NFL ploy to ratchet up the pressure in some NFL cities. But can it even be a legitimate threat anymore? I can't believe anyone with any sense believed the Bills were ever in real danger to move there. It's kind of becoming a joke, no? -

Coliseum still standing? -
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/10/05/nfl-believes-its-12-24-months-away-from-a-return-to-l-a/ We've certainly heard this before. But just because it wasn't true in the past doesn't necessarily mean it won't be true this time. Still, I believe it when it actually happens. But that's not why I started this thread. I'm more interested in this: What the hell does that mean? I know the NFL is very powerful, and has the ability to influence decisions, but can they "send one or two teams" anywhere? Since when does the NFL decide where franchises will play?

I have many comments on this story I mean, this story is good for a strong 5 minute stand-up routine. But I have the good sense to make absolutely no comment on this, on a public forum. -
I won't bother to question that report. Very good news!

Fred Jackson is a true leader
The Dean replied to buffaloboyinATL's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Nice to see the run out of a spread (well from what I remember the WRs were spread wide, can't remember and too drunk to know if it was the spread...but with that said...). I'd like to see more of that. And I would. At least I think I'm pretty sure. -

But he's "boring". Yeah, right. -
Best wishes to Brooks.

Indeed. There are a couple bakeries in NF NY who make better bread, but not sub rolls--at least not any used by any sub place. Ontario Bakery (I think) in NF Ontario makes good sub rolls and I think that is what Viola's uses.

How many people on your ignore list?
The Dean replied to The Big Cat's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Avatars can be changed and many look too alike (especially when many adopted a JK pic for their avatar). The username would work, if I could remember who is who all time. But even if I could, in the middle of a back and forth thread, sometimes I lose track of the players or forget to consider the poster's rep before I respond. The notation would be a good visible reminder to myself to simply not bother with certain posters. I don't think it will ever be a feature here. Just thought it was a good idea when suggested. -

I like the personal notation for posters idea. -
Dino is awesome. In some ways I like him as much, or better, than Frank.
