  1. A bar (outside of the local market areas) will have it ONLY if it is carried by DTV, or some national outlet. I also watch the games at a bar. But if they can't get the game, they can't show the game. Still, I think this will be resolved in a way they will have access. Otherwise I will just stream it from my computer to my TV.
  2. So, this is now a "name every male vocal artist you can think of" thread? That's pretty much par for the course for these things.
  3. Finally a good one.
  4. Me too--well at least until an official announcement is made, But I think that suggests the Sunday in the Sunday Ticket doesn't bind the league to only use those channels on Sunday. If an exception has been made, even once, why wouldn't it be considered again? Was there appreciable fallout from that exception? Yesterday's news. The NFL will decide today what happens with any national distribution.
  5. Indeed. But the word "Sunday" is in the name doesn't necessarily negate the possibility of the NFL making a deal. You may be too young to remember, but Monday Night Football was used as the title for games broadcast by ABC on other nights of the week at one point. Monday Night Football: Saturday Edition, for example. I think it is a mistake to assume it won't be carried simply because of a word in the name of the channel. If it isn't carried on DTV it will be because of contract issues, not the word "Sunday" in Sunday Ticket. As has been mentioned, the RedZone channel is listed as carrying the game (as it is listed for carrying every NFL game). But with no other game to follow for close to 90 minutes, and only one other game to follow after that, I suppose the NFL might think they will show a great portion of the game on RedZone without making any significant changes to any deals in place. I think that is a bad, short-sighted, decision. But I think it is one they could justify internally.
  6. Well, duh. A lyricist writes lyrics. WRITES. A vocalist sings. SINGS. Some people do both, but these are completely different things. But I do think there is a more subtle distinction between someone with a great voice and someone who is a great singer. Mel Torme might have a great voice, but I can't stand the way he sings. Donald Fagen doesn't have a great voice, but he's a master of phrasing and I love the way he sings. But I really have no idea how "lyricist" is a factor on how one sings.
  7. Good advice and I'm doing the same. Just some food for thought here. The NFL, CBS, FOX, NBC the NFL Network and DTV are in a complex arrangement for the rights to show games. Since, due to various acts of nature and man, games get moved from time to time, it would be very impracticable for one party to not allow an accommodation (for a modest financial settlement) because they might be the party trying to get something done the next time. If Comcast was involved I'd be a bit concerned because they are a vile company that doesn't understand compromise. But for the most part, the other companies, as bad as they are, understand business and compromise. I'd be surprised is something isn't worked out.
  8. A deal could easily be made here. DTV would be a non-issue in NYC, as the game is already on the CBS affiliate there. In fact, this might negate ESPN's exclusive deal, to some degree, as the NFL must have some sort of emergency out to let the NYC and BUF CBS affiliatea carry the game. But even so, I can see some compensation thrown their way.
  9. For ESPN to carry the game on ESPN2, for example, a deal would have to be made with CBS--and a blackout applied to ESPN2 in the Buffalo and NYC markets. If the NFL lets DTV a (likely much smaller) deal would have to be made with ESPN. (I'm guessing on the size of the deals here. ) Or NFL.com could make the game available online with an extremely small deal. I'm just speculating here---but I do have a background in this stuff.

  11. I'm betting it will be on DirecTV...but that decision has yet to be made. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/20/jets-bills-game-will-be-on-cbs-locally-no-word-on-national-tv/
  12. Well, I can hardly believe some mook from DrirectTV who you talked to on the phone would really have ANY idea of what they are going to to at this point. I think I'll wait until we get some official word. But you be sure to make other plans based on your, clearly very high level, phone call.
  13. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000431579/article/jetsbills-game-moved-to-detroit-on-monday-night Looks like just local unless something is announced later. Computer here I come (or stay).
  14. Honestly, on the entire board, this is the only thread I really give a damn about. I'm sure I can find out elsewhere, eventually, but I know I can just come here and find it at some point. So, once again, thank you for all you do, Yolo. It's sucks the team, and ticketholders, get screwed out of a home game. Do out of town fans get screwed out of watching the game, too? Fortunately I know how to use a computer, so I will probably figure out a way to watch the game one way or another.
  15. Ah, the man who ruined Journey. I can't stand his voice. In no particular order and certainly not complete: Van Morrison Lowell George James Dewar James Brown Otis Redding Dean Martin Chet Baker (I know---but it works for me) Sam Cooke Ray Charles Levon Helm/Richard Manuel (Rick Danko, too) Steve Winwood (young) Dave Mason David Clayton Thomas Doug Gray (young) Very close would be: Curtis Mayfield Smokey Robinson Al Green Sly Stone Wilson Pickett Greg Allman You get the drift.
  16. Hot Cappicola Hot Sicilian salami Very sharp provolone (typically hand carved as good provolone is too dry to be sliced with a machine) Crusty Italian bread That's it. No condiments---they just mask the flavor, IMO. Oh, and a glass of good red wine or Champagne.
  17. Sounds pretty good, plenz, I'll have to give it a whirl sometime.
  18. Completely understand. I was just wondering if any restaurants had your beef. I can get a great steak and make it at home for a minimal cost. But I understand the OP's position that it has become increasingly difficult to find a great steak at a restaurant, though. I know not everybody is looking for the same thing, but I am looking for great tasting beef---nothing more. I don't need fancy prep, or sauces, though at time they can be enjoyable. To me a great steak takes minimal prep. Give me a good bone-in ribeye and I'm one happy dude. I'm also satisfied with may other cuts, but ribeye is my go-to.
  19. I'm sure. What restaurants have your steaks? Never heard of them,. But it seems they are all over the country, not just the East coast. Even in Tokyo.
  20. Pete's is no more. I believe it has re-opened under a different name*, however. When I was back in July I almost went for lunch, but then plans changed. It was never a GREAT steak/prime rib, but for the money it was hard to beat. Way back when John's Flaming Hearth turned out a very good steak at a reasonable price. It's been gone for quite a few years. Since I no longer live in the area, it is hard for me to speak to what is good now. But I have always had excellent luck with the steak at Fortuna's in Niagara Falls. Reasonably priced and you can get it with a side of pasta, gnocchi, whatever. My buddy Joe Fortuna still runs the place and is usually in the kitchen. I've had too many great steaks to call one the best. Luger's in NYC was spectacular, but that was many years ago. But I'd bet it's still great. Sparks is good, too. In SF I've always like The House of Prime Rib--hard to find a better value for a high end meal. IMO. And also Harris' The Steakhouse was pretty damn good, too. *Just Googled it and found Pete's is now called "Market House Steak and Spirits". According to the few reviews posted, it seems to be similar in concept to Pete's. Which makes a lot of sense for Niagara Falls. I'd love to get a review from someone here, if you go.
  21. I had a great steak at Lugars many years ago. I wonder why they are taking a hit among some of the snobby foodie reviews lately. It is said the quality of their meat has declined and the service---well the service has always been sort of purposefully (I think) curt. This snobby food reviewer wrote an article simply (it seems) to bash another reviewer for calling Peter Luger's the #3 steakhouse in the USA. Still, if I had the opportunity to go to Luger, I'd jump at the chance. http://www.forbes.com/sites/larryolmsted/2013/07/11/americas-20-best-steakhouses-new-rankings-today/ It's funny, because I know that enhancing of poultry and pork was becoming a regular practice, and I always avoided buying that stuff if I could. But I'm seeing more and more hormone free, very natural chicken and pork the past few years. If I'm in a grocery store, I tend to buy the heritage/organic stuff. But I find I don't need to much of the time because the basic product sold is so good in the places I shop. For those in the Jacksonville (or Orlando) area, I highly recommend Freshfields Farms. The meat quality is fantastic and it is also about the same price (or even less) than the supermarket. http://www.freshfieldsfarm.com/meats/ I also have a little local market that has a fine meat and cheese dept (but otherwise is a horrid little market). They also are very competitive in price with the big markets. So I guess I'm a bit choosy about where I buy my meat, but I've always been choosy about where I buy my meat. (When I lived on Long Island I bought chicken directly from a small chicken farm. In SF I used a couple of excellent butchers, for example.) Still I'm noticing an improvement in the quality of chicken and pork.
  22. I'm jealous. Yes, the Italians are very serious about their meat and I don't think they are using the hormones and such used by the big commercial producers in the USA. Well, to further hijack this thread, I will also note chicken thighs seem to have really improved. I prefer to cook my meat bone-in and with chicken skin-on. I recall getting a lot of pretty bad chicken thighs years ago and basically stopped buying them. I'd have no problem with the thighs on a roaster, but the parts just seemed to be sub par. But man oh man, I'm having great luck with chicken thighs these days. So, if you dig chicken, you may find these are on the upswing. Maybe Chef or or man in the field (literally) boyst can chime in on this. My experience might not reflect what's going on generally.
  23. I love the description "A security camera in Cavalier, North Dakota caught this strange event that looks as though a car has been abducted by a UFO or something else." I'm going with "something else"
