1. Of course there will be !@#$s everywhere. And as with any argument, pointing out exceptions doesn't really support your case. In this case, I think it's VERY fair to say that in general it would be MUCH safer to go to Orchard Park wearing a Raiders jersey than it would be to go to Oakland wearing your Bills gear.

Probably. But I don't think it's particularly dangerous to go to a Raider's game if you're a well behaved guest.

Mostly I was responding to why a Bills fan would go to that game...and the answer is.."because it's there". Also, since it isn't sold out, we'd miss the game if we didn't go.

  2. I wouldn't think less of you for wearing a Raiders Jersey over top of your Bills jersey.

As a matter of fact, I really don't know why ANYONE, as a Bills fan, would ever choose the Raiders game as the away game to go to.... I went to several Dolphins games in Miami, and got razzed pretty good each time (except the last one, where we outnumbered the dolphins fans), but I wouldn't risk it and go to a Raiders game. You'd be afraid to even cheer for the Bills, unless you don't mind getting stabbed.

    No thanks.

I've been to several Bills/Raiders games in LA and Oaktown...never had a problem. With that said, I don't wear a ton of Bills' gear...maybe none at all...I don't taunt the home town fans at ANY stadium I go to (that's just plain ignorant, IMO). But, while in the stands I root for the Bills. If a Raiders' fan gets nasty, I make a joke of it. By the end of the game, they're buying me beers and inviting me to a post-game party.

But one of the reasons I'm going to this game is because I live in SF and the game is close by. Also going to San Diego...because it's close enough to get to.

  3. Unfortunately, there's several terms in football that aren't accurate.  A reverse is usually an end around; I don't ever recall seeing an actual double reverse  (unless what you consider what McGee does on KO returns :( )  A couple of weeks ago, the announcer referred to a pump-fake followed by a delayed handoff as a Statue of Liberty.

For that matter, when did 'defense' ever become a verb?

I could probably think of more, this is just what's off the top of my head.

    479544

I have seen an an actual double-reverse...but a LONG time ago. This is where the QB sprints to one side, as if he's running...like an option QB, hands off to an end coming the other way (reversing the action for the first time) who hands off to another ball carrier coming toward him (reversing the action for the 2nd time). This is the kind of play that loses 15 yards these days.

and you are correct re: the Statue of Liberty play. I saw an announcer call that a week or so ago (I think in a Bills game) and laughed...THAT is not a SoL play, for Christsake!

But the worst, for me is "The ground can't cause a fumble". BULLS#IT! The ground most certainly CAN cause a fumble. A ball carrier is running and falls down on his own (no contact with a defensive player)...he hits the ground and the ball pops loose due to the contact with the ground...THAT is a fumble...and the ground caused it.

What the ground can't do is cause a fumble after the play is over...but neither can another player cause a fumble after the play is over. No one and Nothing can cause a fumble after the play is over. When a player goes down as a result of contact, the play is over the MOMENT his knee (or basically any part of his body other than his hand) or the ball touches the ground.

Is that really that hard of a concept?

  4. >>>>What is it about a strong New Yawk accent that makes the person sound so freakin stupid?<<<<

No, you probably meant me specifically, but I don't care at all.  :(  You personally are one of the best people in my life that I have ever watched a Buffalo Bills football game with, and that my friend is a compliment indeed.

    479735

Well thanks, Bill. I had a blast too! (OK you prevs...no "Get a room" comments...hear?)

  5. Hahaha!!!

    Is Philip Rivers overrated?

    479733

Is he rated at all? I always thought he was over-valued coming out of college (I had JP well ahead of him talent-wise)...but, he's the invisible man now. What's amusing is because of all the Eli/New York stuff, Rivers really had a lot of public support (because he WASN'T Eli). But the holding out really screwed him, IMO. He lost the job that was almost sure to be his. Lost public support...and now he's the forgotten man.

I wonder, on Charger boards do posters ask questions like, "When do we NEED to start PR?" Or say, "I'd rather lose this year with Rivers, because it will be better in the long run"?

(l don't wonder that much though, or I would go look at a Chargers board.) :(

  6. I have to give it up to Charger Fans. After the QB controversy game where FLUTIE beat JOHNSON several yrs ago 27-24 i think, they were probably the nicest fans to lose too. No hard feelings. No yelling in your face. I mean, granted their team won the home game but I didn't feel threatened. San Diego was cool.

    479666

If I'm not mistaken, the Chargers beat the Bills. (What is it wit Flutie fans? They think he plays every position.)

  7. It's funny that complaints should come from a Jets fan. IMO, Jets fans are, by far, the absolute worst of any visiting team. Worse than Raider fans...by a lot, in my experience. Jet's fans act like they are in their stadium. When walking from the lot to the Stadium, THEY initiate confrontations ...are they nuts? Maybe it's a by-product of not really having a true home stadium.

Now clearly there are drunken obnoxious Bills fans...just like there are for every team. But, I feel the same way toward Jets fans complaining about their treatment at the Ralph as I do toward foreign-born residents of the US taking every opportunity to complain about the US and Americans. My response: "Go back to your own miserable country!"

BTW, I loved this, "If you’ve never had a drunken Buffalo accent catapulted through your cranium via a drunken Buffalo person, well then you’re just letting the worst thing in life pass you by." Now I know that a STRONG Buffalo accent is not one of the most pleasant sounds in the world. But, again...looks who's complaining. What is it about a strong New Yawk accent that makes the person sound so freakin stupid?

  8. I don't think that is the problem we will face. Look at the Winfield situation. TD decided, most people agreed, and it turned out to be true, that AW was a very good player but was going to ask for and receive more than he was worth. So we let him go. We simply went out and signed a Troy Vincent for (approximately) 20 mil instead of 35 mil, and we'd likely do it again if we don't resign Nate. We're not going to sign a Chris Watson or just rely on Eric King and Jabari Greer. We'd very, very likely go out and sign a Vincent kind of corner, in both talent and cash.

    478466

First of all, I agree with most of what you say here...with one exception. IMO AW didn't ask for more than he was worth. He asked for more than he was worth to the Bills. Because we had Nate and some good young players AND we knew we could sign a player of TV's ability, we could make do w/o Winfield. For the Vikes, I tink AW's worth every penny.

Whith that said, a similar thing might happen with Nate. Nate will command big $$$. TD might just figure that with McGee and some good young players (and TV if he's needed) he can sign someone during the offseason for far less than keeping NC. If that happens, it won't be necause Nate was asking for more than he was worth...it'll be because Nate got more than he was worth to the Bills.

  9. :(  Has the Jason Peters fan club been keeping track of how many positions have been suggested for JP here at TBD??

    476096

I believe two new positions have been invented in an attempt to get every last bit of talent out of Mr. Peters.

With that said...I'd like to see the dude on the field some more, too.

  10. Just a check on who still has the Rose colored glasses on here - Who still thinks the Bills are a playoff team?  Going in to the season, I saw little reason to believe...after week 1, I had hope...since then, i want a top 10 pick since there would be no benefit from going into the playoffs with the team we have.

Who still is burning a torch the playoffs and what are you realistically expecting?  I myself and resigned to the fact this this is a team wrought with holes in the offensive and defensive lines, lacking decisive leadership and still does not know what it has at the QB position long term...

    476056

There are several questions here...but I think you want to know:

Do the Bills have a legit shot to make the playoffs this year? Yes

Am I wearing rose-colored glasses? No

Have I given up on the coaches and the QB (the GM, the owner, etc)? No

Do I think the team (5 games into the season with a 2-3 record) should tank the rest of the season to get a better draft pick? Uh...uh...Fu#k No

Normally I don't resort to name calling but, "kitty Quitter" fits you like a glove, bro.

  11. I was at a wedding in Sonoma. I got there just after the game ended in time for some celebratory beers. I'll be there this week. I'll be there tonight too.

    476212

I plan on being good tonight...but, you may see me anyway. Sunday for sure!

  12. well, one of those old musicals. i get them all mixed up. you can't blame me for that mistake.

i guess... thanks for corecting that.

    476067

That you brought up a musical raised the question, "Is he gay?" That you had the wrong musical pretty much aquits you, I believe. IowaBill on the other hand... :(
