  1. Covid destroyed 22 million jobs in rich countries London (CNN Business)The coronavirus pandemic has destroyed 22 million jobs in wealthy countries, according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. In a report Wednesday warning of the risk of a rapid rise in long-term joblessness, the Paris-based organization said that employment across OECD countries is not expected to recover to its pre-pandemic level before 2023. https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/08/business/oecd-employment-outlook/index.html
  2. Republicans preview months ahead filled with obstruction and extremism House Republicans are done pretending and aren't even trying to disguise their identity as the party of extremism, conservative media stunts and obstruction. Fresh evidence is emerging of the GOP's strategy of mayhem heading into next year's midterm elections under the defining influence of Donald Trump. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, whose demagoguery is tolerated by GOP leaders, is at the center of a new storm over her allusions to Nazism. A leaked video shows Texas' Rep. Chip Roy prescribing Washington chaos as the GOP seeks to destroy Joe Biden's presidency and win back the chamber. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy is meanwhile working out how to derail the Democratic-led committee that will look into the January 6 insurrection -- putting the party's idol, Trump, above American democracy. https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/08/politics/republican-extremism-latest/index.html
  3. Keep tightening sanctions on Russia , I would hate to start a cyber war unless a last resort. Imagine power shut down
  4. The unvaccinated should also mask up to protect others, but I bet they won't.
  5. I wish Nixon would have won , JFK would not have been killed. Maybe the Nam war could have been prevented keeping out LBJ.
  6. Trump claimed Ashli Babbitt was shot in the head , she was shot in the shoulder a non lethal area. Reports were Congress was still evacuating from that chamber resulting in their protection.
  7. As long as the unvaccinated don't cause a variant that is resistant to vaccines , that's their choice. The problem is if they infect children who are not eligible for vaccine or immune compromised.
  8. Sure looks like Trump wants to be like Hitler , Putin and Xi Jinping .
  9. Trump told chief of staff Hitler ‘did a lot of good things’, book says Remark shocked John Kelly, author Michael Bender reports Book details former president’s ‘stunning disregard for history On a visit to Europe to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the first world war, Donald Trump insisted to his then chief of staff, John Kelly: “Well, Hitler did a lot of good things.” The remark from the former US president on the 2018 trip, which reportedly “stunned” Kelly, a retired US Marine Corps general, is reported in a new book by Michael Bender of the Wall Street Journal. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/jul/06/donald-trump-hitler-michael-bender-book
  10. They keep reporting there is a lack of tanker drivers, many laid off during covid moved on to other trucking jobs or retired. There is ample supply of gasoline not enough tanker drivers.
  11. I hope Buffalo is listening this Nov. NYC finally came to it's senses.
  12. The GM job I had paid well and good benefits went to Mexico. Each community has a different cost of living so a living wage will vary with location. Being able to pay the rent , food and necessities is the bare minimum.
  13. A living wage job should solve this problem. We sent most unskilled jobs to Mexico and China to have cheap goods. Doing away with bail and no detention for minors who commit crime also a problem.
  14. How long can supply shortages continue? As the global economy kicks into high gear following the pandemic, demand for certain consumer goods and tech components has outstripped supply, leading to shortages of everything from cars to household appliances. Shortages are not something consumers in developed economies are used to dealing with. They are annoying. But they can also feed inflation, because consumers are competing over fewer products, driving up prices. The big question is how long shortages will persist. For clues, investors can look to Asia, where supplier delivery times across manufacturing sectors increased in June. Industrial production in South Korea and Japan fell in May. "All of this will reinforce concerns that supply is failing to keep pace with red-hot demand and provide more grist to the inflation mill," said Neil Shearing, group chief economist at Capital Economics. "Supply shortages are not going to disappear overnight — on the contrary, they are likely to persist in some form until well into 2022," he added. https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/06/investing/premarket-stocks-trading/index.html
  15. White supremacist group marches through Philadelphia before Fourth of July celebrations Police say scores of members of a group described by the Anti-Defamation League as white supremacist marched in Philadelphia over the weekend, clashing with pedestrians and setting off what were believed to be smoke bombs at one point. The group of Patriot Front members, estimated at 150 to 200 people, marched for several blocks in Center City on Saturday evening wearing tan pants and black shirts with face coverings and carrying shields and flags. Police said they were chanting slogans such as "Reclaim America" and "The election was stolen." Police said pedestrians "engaged members of the group verbally" and there were several physical encounters. Finally, someone from the group used what police believe were smoke bombs "to cover their retreat as they fled," police said. Police said no one in the group was from Philadelphia. The group is based in Texas and traveled into the city. https://6abc.com/patriot-front-philadelphia-protest-white-supremacist/10858983/
  16. Trump seemingly acknowledges facts of prosecutors' case against Trump Organization while criticizing charges over 'fringe benefits' Trump told a crowd in Sarasota, Florida, on Saturday night that "every company" does "fringe benefits," but he mocked prosecutors for pursuing the charges, saying it is "reminiscent of a communist dictatorship targeting your political opponents." The comments mark the former President's most substantial yet on the charges after they were unsealed last week in the first criminal case against his namesake company. "Never before has New York City and their prosecutors or perhaps any prosecutors criminally charged a company or a person for fringe benefits," Trump said. "Fringe benefits. Murders, OK; human trafficking, no problem. But fringe benefits, you can't do that." https://www.cnn.com/2021/07/04/politics/trump-rally-sarasota-florida/index.html So it's normal for the rich to evade taxes , Al Capone says hello
  17. So you want Kamala Harris to take over as President ?
  18. Yep Trump left one hell of a mess . Failure to mitigate covid at the start , failure to resupply the national stock pile of PPE. Covid crushed the global supply chain causing shortages and higher prices. Took us out of the Iran deal that was bad but better then nothing. Never stood up to Putin for hacking. How could I forget the massive tax cut that wasn't needed at that time.
  19. Gosar's sister: My brother Paul is 'hateful and bigoted' Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), a vocal Trump supporter who backed efforts to overturn the election, sought to undermine the notion that Ashli Babbitt was killed in an act of self-defense by Capitol police during the January 6 insurrection. https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2021/07/03/paul-gosar-capitol-riot-conspiracy-theory-jennifer-intv-nr-vpx.cnn
  20. Where’s housekeeping? Hotels cutting back on daily cleaning after pandemic Some workers not called back full-time as hotels skip daily cleaning of rooms — ‘It’s a double whammy’ for the ‘exact same communities that have been hurt and most affected by the pandemic,’ union official says Hotels have cut back on daily room cleanings, which means many housekeepers remain on call. Because of this, a union that represents hotel service workers is sounding an alarm and saying that nearly 40% of hotel-housekeeping jobs — more than 180,000 — are in danger of being permanently eliminated. Executives of some of the nation’s biggest hotel chains, including Hilton HLT, +2.58%, Marriott MAR, +1.45% and Hyatt H, +0.84%, have signaled that pandemic-induced changes may become the norm. Some of those changes could result in fewer hotel employees and diminished offerings for hotel customers, including room cleaning, room service, complimentary breakfasts and other food service. https://www.marketwatch.com/story/wheres-housekeeping-hotels-cutting-back-on-daily-cleaning-after-pandemic-11625159416
