The very best thing about the Trump Presidency, on the personal level, is that people have come out in droves to show you how terrible and vile they are. Case in point.

You’re looking at it the wrong way. The mistake you’re making is that you’re proceeding as if their goals are to solve problems, and conduct the business of the People. That’s not why they’re there. They’re there to create fiefdoms, and inter generational political legacies that essentially install them as royalty, enrich themselves and their progeny, and place them and those close to them above the law. Towards those ends a look of bumbling, and the action of providing their constituents with pork much better secure their end goals. They are incredibly serious people.

Yes. He would actually need to say something malignant about race to make it racist. Full stop. Being openly hostile to someone with brown skin is not racist, unless you're hostile because of the color of their skin. It's quite clear why the President is hostile. The ideology of the individuals in question. You can disagree with, even openly savage, a person of color for their ideas and opinions, and not be racist. ... Nearly every country hemorrhaging migrants and refugees are those where the overwhelming majority of the populace are people of color. These are typically war torn Third World countries, collapsed failed socialist states, or nations controlled by junta or cartels which is why people are fleeing them en masse. If these countries were any good, people would not be fleeing. People are not flooding from Denmark into Syria. People are not fleeing Canada for the greener pastures of Guatemala. The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele said it best: "They [migrants] fled El Salvador, they fled our country. It is our fault." I've never heard the "dirty" bit, but consider: Migrants and refugees arriving at our Southern Border are often malnourished, impoverished, and disease ridden. They are not inoculated, and carry all manner of disease. The overwhelming majority of people who have died in Border Control custody arrived here deathly ill, after being dragged thousands of miles across a desert. And most do come here to have children. Birthright citizenship is a reality. Further the President isn't the first person to comment on this. The entire DNC electoral strategy is built on it. Here, Melissa Harris-Perry delivers the message in a piece titled the "browning of America" (2014) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.msnbc.com/msnbc/embedded-video/mmvo309395011533" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Only one woman was not from America. And he didn't say she should go back to where she's from because of her race. You did. Again, it goes back to the first thing I said in this response: it's about ideology.

Here’s the thing. He didn’t say any of that. He qualified everything he said. You want to make this be about racism, because you just know in your heart that the President is racist, despite there being no evidence, because you need him and his supporters to be racists; which is why what he said was so dumb. It opened the door for exactly this sort of nonsense.

In what way is it racist? He doesn’t mention race, or disparage anyone over race, or speak negatively about racial attributes. He doesn’t even do that over nationality, or nation of origin. ”Racism” means something specific. Telling someone to go back to where they’re from (Somalia) if they think America is such a bad place is incredibly stupid politically, and beneath the Office he serves in, but it’s not racist. I mean, for Pete’s sake; I’ve been told to move to Somalia literally hundreds of times over my political views.

Mans just like that, the server is down. -
Well, it certainly wasn’t racism. It was completely consistent with the President’s “America First, American Exceptionalism” rhetoric that he built his campaign on. No one is attacked or disparaged because of their race, or even their nation of origin. The only issue I take with it, is that it was completely politically inept; as it disrupted a public cannibal dinner at DNC headquarters, and will be spun as racist by people who see racism everywhere or require the President and their political enemies to be racist.

It was a stupid, stupid thing to say; and an even more stupid way to say it. I don’t care what his intentions were, this lends itself, quite nimbly, to the absolute worst possible interpretations. He deserves whatever fallout he gets from this absolute master class in political ineptness, I won’t carry a single drop of water for him here. The Democrats were publicly tearing themselves to pieces, and in trying to further stir the pot he inadvertently picked it up and dumped it out over his own head like an abject moron.

Trump's 4th of July Speech thread

Did I really just read a half-assed argument that state’s rights only extend so far as the states in question acquiesce to the desires of the federal government? -

So few choose to understand the differences between abolition and emancipation. Prominent emancipation proponents argued that simply abolishing slavery would lead to swift and near-permanent injustice, by creating an unskilled, uneducated, illiterate racial underclass. It turns out that they were 100% correct, and that a gradual emancipation, inclusive of the education and apprenticeship of former slaves building towards their complete freedom; as advocated for by men like Stonewall Jackson would have likely done far more to undo the legacy of slavery in America.
